Chapter 359: Chapter 359: A Bold Idea

Leon suddenly realized he was out of line, quickly retracted his gaze, and said awkwardly, "Let’s go."

Cindy, a bit tipsy, didn’t notice the brief tension earlier. She stepped forward, draping an arm over her second brother’s shoulder and encouraged, "You’re the only sober one now, take care of little Sasha."

"No need! I can do it!" Sasha pushed forward with an arm flailing, about to stumble into a table when her arm was suddenly grabbed.

Leon quickly took a few steps to stand beside her, holding her arm tighter, "Let’s go."

Sasha tilted her head to glance at him briefly, then suddenly lowered her eyelids, "Okay." This sudden display of demure shyness was like that of a little girl.

Cindy was so charmed she bit her four fingernails at once, and couldn’t resist quietly asking Ruby, "What do you think about us getting a cab back?"

Ruby smiled stiffly, "Sure."

"Then let’s wait a bit longer." Cindy stood firmly in place, watching Leon and Sasha leave. Suddenly Leon stopped, turned back, and frowned at her, "Get moving."

Cindy knew her second brother rarely got angry, but once he issued an ultimatum, it meant the end of his patience. If she kept pushing, well... she didn’t want to find out what would happen.

She hurriedly took Ruby’s arm and followed them out.

Once inside the car, Cindy started creating opportunities for Sasha and Leon. "Second brother, you can drop me off first, I’m a bit sleepy. Sis, you can sleep over with me, since my brother isn’t home anyway."

"Okay." Ruby agreed with a smile, "Leon, could you please make sure our Sasha gets home safe?"

Sasha, not shying away from Leon at all, turned to the two sisters in the backseat, giving them two thumbs up in thanks for their help.

Leon felt like he was being toyed with by three women. Though a bit unwilling, he resigned himself to agree, "Got it."

After Cindy and Ruby got out of the car and watched Leon drive away, Cindy dared not speak directly. As the car left, she waved her arms and shouted, "Second brother, you don’t need to come back tonight, have a good night!"

Feeling pleased, she hooked Ruby’s shoulder, "I’m really envious of them!" She found herself missing Nathaniel, but was too embarrassed to admit it, having been so bluntly rejected. To keep persisting would not only lack self-respect but also be selfish, which she didn’t want to be.

At 3 a.m., Ruby lay in bed feeling exhausted yet stirred by the day’s events. Regardless of what the morning brought, she decided to deal with it after some rest.

On the other side, Sasha managed to get Leon home but wouldn’t let him leave so easily. She staggered into the bathroom, claiming she felt like throwing up, and soon the sound of running water followed.

Seeing it was getting late, Leon guessed if she could manage to bathe alone, he might as well leave. He raised his voice, "If you’re alright, I’ll head out first."

"Wait! Ah!" Sasha’s sharp scream was followed by a thud, suggesting she had fallen.

Alarmed, Leon rushed in to find her still in her party outfit—a short skirt and vest—with bare feet huddled in the shower, eyes squinting under the spray as she flailed to turn off the water.

He stepped forward, helping her up from the shower floor.

As soon as her left foot hit the ground, she lifted it painfully, "I was in a hurry and seem to have... hit the glass door."

She raised her injured foot, but it didn’t show much; under the warm orange bathroom light, only the big toe’s toenail looked slightly different.

"I’ll take you back to your room." Leon supported her as she hopped a few steps, then realizing it was too dangerous, he apologized. Then he swept her up in his arms.

Sasha clung to his neck, her heart nearly stopping, staring intently as audacious thoughts crossed her mind.

Leon laid her on the bed, and before he could get away, she grabbed his collar. He frowned slightly, "Stop messing around."

"I’ve had too much to drink. Tomorrow I’ll surely blackout, don’t worry, I won’t hold you accountable." As Sasha spoke, she pulled him into her embrace with a determined effort.

When she awoke, it was already a bright afternoon. Sasha opened her eyes to find herself wrapped up in the covers, not a stitch on.

Bits and pieces of last night resurfaced. She remembered tugging Leon once, and then... she scared him away.

She had thrown her clothes around the room in a drunken rage.

Sighing, Sasha attempted to get out of bed to go to the bathroom, but her foot throbbed in pain as it hit the floor. The toenail, which had looked a bit odd last night, was now bruised and purple. It seemed it would take two to three months for a new nail to grow back...

She sighed again, suddenly feeling sad, and crawled back under the covers. Why was she so useless?

She wondered how much yesterday’s events had blown out of proportion. Not ready to face the music, she resolved not to check her phone!

The Sterling Estate.

Ruby was sleeping soundly, and it was Honey and Seth who woke her up.

"Mom, are you hungry? It’s time to eat," Honey asked with a giggle.

Seth seemed a bit worried, "Mom, did you drink too much again last night?"

Ruby blinked and realized she wasn’t dreaming. She slowly sat up, taking a moment to confirm she was at The Sterling Estate. "Did Vivian bring you here?"

The two nodded.

Honey climbed onto the bed and snuggled into her arms, "I went to your room this morning looking for you, I was so worried, I thought a monster took you away."

Ruby kissed her on the forehead, "I’m sorry, mommy worked too late last night and then had dinner with your aunt and Sasha. I stayed over here."

Seth frowned slightly, "Does your head hurt?"

"I’m fine, I didn’t drink too much last night, remembering what you said." Well... actually, there was just too much on her mind last night to drink. But she’ll remember next time for sure. Ruby squinted, smiling.

"Alright, let’s go eat. If you’re not awake yet, sleep after eating, or it’ll upset your stomach," Seth advised as he turned to leave, his tone serious, reminiscent of an elder brother advising his sister.

Ruby was charmed by her son’s mature demeanor... no, her son’s precociousness, and laughed, calling after him, "Got it, son."

Honey giggled as she climbed off the bed, "Mom, hurry up and get ready, I’ll go call auntie!" With that, the little girl ran off with her short legs.

Watching her daughter gleefully skip away, Ruby’s heart suddenly ached as she recalled last night’s events.

Every time she saw Honey so happy, it reminded her of her failure as a mother... Sighing deeply, Ruby steeled herself once more.

Instead of waiting until they detested each other, it’s better to part ways while there’s still love.
