Chapter 327: Chapter 327: I’m Here

Sasha Shaw had already gone to sleep, while Ruby Sullivan and Faye Truman sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the flowing car lights outside like a galaxy, and drank floral tea to sober up.

They hadn’t gathered like this for a long time, letting loose and getting drunk. Every day, they woke up feeling like they were racing against time, with endless work and responsibilities. As they reached a certain phase of life, it seemed friends were often neglected.

"Did your husband agree to let you stay here?" Faye Truman recalled Ethan Sterling’s expression when he said, "I’m indulging her," and felt a bit bitter.

"Yeah, I need to have my own circle, and my circle is just you and Sasha now." She takes a sip of hot tea, "I hope you’re not leaving Cindy because of insecurity; it would be such a pity if that’s the case."

"Because she’s too much like you." Faye Truman suddenly cut off her sentimentality, "The avoidance and cowardice in her personality too often remind me of the old you, and I... can’t face her."

Ruby Sullivan thought for a moment and nodded, "That’s true. Like you and me, we can only be brothers. If you only view her as a friend, this choice is right."

Faye Truman smiled bitterly, "I never considered you as a brother."

Ruby Sullivan noticed his gaze was a bit off and was momentarily stunned.

Yet, Faye Truman didn’t stop because of her distraction, "I’ve always liked you, but I knew you always had someone you liked, so I didn’t dare to confess. One reason was that your family’s conditions were too good, and I didn’t have the right to confess. Another reason was that I feared I wouldn’t be as good as the person you liked and would be rejected, making it impossible even to be friends."

Ruby Sullivan was dumbfounded, her mind completely shut down, "Faye Truman, what are you saying? I don’t understand a word."

Faye Truman turned his head to look outside and continued in a self-talking manner, "I thought back then that I graduated earlier than you, and as a doctor, by the time you graduated, I would have at least a decent job, and be more confident. But what I didn’t expect was that when you graduated, I hadn’t yet spoken up before receiving your wedding invitation with Ethan Sterling."

"Later... I thought about making you give up, wanting you to stay by my side, but I didn’t expect you would meet Dr. L, become his last disciple, and step onto a completely different path..." Faye Truman smiled bitterly, accepting they had no fate.

"There’s one more thing I never dared to tell you." Faye Truman lowered his head as he spoke and stayed silent for a long time.

Ruby Sullivan had already heard too many soul-shaking revelations, she couldn’t process them. If possible, she wished to hear nothing more, but she also knew Faye Truman was determined to reveal everything.

As time ticked away, Ruby Sullivan thought he had fallen asleep, but when she leaned over to check, she discovered he was crying.

Faye Truman was crying!

Ruby Sullivan truly panicked, "Actually, you don’t have to say it; it’s okay. We aren’t never meeting again; there’s no need to spill everything."

In her eyes, there was nothing more shocking than him liking her. If there was something more, she feared her heart could not take it; she truly didn’t want him to say it.

When one is at the center of gossip, even the strongest curiosity vanishes.

Faye Truman took a deep sniff, "I’m afraid if I don’t say it now, I’ll never have the courage to say it again."

"Fine, fine, just say it, saying it will make you happy." Ruby Sullivan handed a box of tissues to him. She had never seen Faye Truman looking so pathetic, unconsciously drawing out her maternal nature, speaking in a tone similar to comforting Seth.

Faye Truman blew his nose, took a deep breath, "Back then, it was I who sent Seth away, it wasn’t some human trafficker. I originally wanted to tell Ethan Sterling the truth but feared he would come to you and harm you, so I arranged for the child to be handed over to his assistant." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"At the time, I acted purely out of selfishness, thinking you could have a better life but that two children would only be a burden. I wasn’t afraid of raising two more children, but I was scared because every time you saw them, you’d remember Ethan Sterling, so... I sent Seth away."

Ruby Sullivan was not only shocked but wondered if she was intoxicated, believing everything she heard was an illusion.

Her most trusted friend who saved her in her most perilous moment, could never be the culprit who stole her child.

Impossible!

Tears poured out of her like a string of broken beads, yet facing Faye Truman, she struggled to muster a smile, "Faye Truman, you must be drunk. Seth was taken by a trafficker. Howard said he found the child at an orphanage."

"I gave the headmaster a large sum of money; it was all an act. I was always covertly investigating The Sterling Family’s situation, knowing Ethan wanted to adopt a child to appease his grandmother, so I arranged all this." Originally, he intended to send the child directly to The Sterling Family, but this opportunity arose unexpectedly.

Letting Ethan Sterling face his son every day without knowing it was his flesh and blood was intentional; it was revenge against Ethan Sterling.

Ruby Sullivan still couldn’t believe it, "Stop lying to me, won’t you? This story is unbelievable. If true, why did you keep Honey, why not send both children away?"

"Firstly, I feared when you woke up and found both children gone, you’d have suicidal thoughts; leaving a child could give you something to remember. Secondly, because of Honey’s illness, I thought she wouldn’t live many years, so..." Faye Truman couldn’t continue, slapped himself hard, "I’m a beast!"

Ruby Sullivan collapsed; she had to face the reality no matter how emotionally unacceptable it was—not that she was unfortunate, but that her best friend had betrayed her!

She paused for a moment, coldly stared at him, and hoarsely said, "Faye Truman, you don’t truly love me. Loving someone means not wanting to harm them; loving someone means wanting them to be happy. You love yourself; you just want to possess. I don’t want to see you again; let’s pretend we never knew each other."

Speaking, she stood up, feeling dizzy, bumped against the sofa, almost fell, and staggered out of the room.

Behind her seemed to be Faye Truman’s crying, but she couldn’t hear clearly. Her heart hurt so much she could hardly breathe; it felt like she would die in the next second. She desperately wanted to go home!

Then, someone walked out from the elevator; she thought she was seeing things. Until she heard him call "Ruby," she realized she was not mistaken.

Ruby Sullivan rushed into Ethan Sterling’s arms, bursting into sobs, "I miss you."

Ethan Sterling was bewildered by his wife’s weeping, held her tightly, soothingly stroked her back, "There, I’m here."
