Chapter 326: Chapter 326: Hidden Too Deep

Cindy Sterling didn’t do anything, just lay in her room, not even turning on the lights as it got dark. The servant who called her for dinner was cautious, thinking she was asleep.

She paused for a moment, realizing that after seeing Ruby Sullivan off, she had been lying in her room for over two hours doing nothing.

"You guys eat, I’m not hungry." She sat up, rubbed her head, and casually turned on the room lights.

The old Sterling residence was too big. Despite its size, there were heaps of servants, yet she was the only one from the family living there.

When you think about it, it was quite sad.

The elder Mr. Sterling was an orphan, who had toughened up growing up in society, later starting in business early, actually one of the earliest to become wealthy. Initially, he wanted to have many children to enlarge the family, not expecting the poor genes from Mrs. Sterling.

He didn’t lack thoughts of finding a younger wife, but Mrs. Sterling’s skills were formidable, choking off every illegitimate child in the womb. This very issue led to the elder Mr. Sterling’s stroke out of anger, never to recover.

After that incident, Mrs. Sterling was always remorseful, her greatest hope being that her daughter-in-law could have more children. Unfortunately, the son died early, had disharmony with the daughter-in-law, and later was forced abroad by the grandson she raised herself.

The Sterling Family is cursed!

Cindy Sterling sent a voice message to Vivian, "Where are you? Faye Truman left, do you want to come back and stay?"

No reply even after half an hour.

She sighed, got up, and started packing.

Sasha Shaw and Ruby Sullivan met outside the hotel, then went to Faye Truman’s room. Both carried large satchels, producing a crisp clinking sound as they walked.

Faye Truman had already ordered hotel services, setting the room up with snacks to go with the drinks, hastily opened the door to welcome them upon hearing the bell.

Sasha Shaw had already heard from Ruby Sullivan about what happened between him and Cindy Sterling, so the two didn’t look kindly on his expression.

Nathaniel was incredibly perceptive; how could he not see that Cindy Sterling liked him? Knowing full well the girl liked him, he still approached her in such a manner. Didn’t he know it was like fighting poison with poison? Was he unaware of the seriousness of heartache, or had he never been hurt by emotions?

Hmm... even if he hadn’t been hurt by emotions, hadn’t he seen news, novels, TV dramas, or romantic films?

Nathaniel listened to Sasha Shaw and Ruby Sullivan critiquing him in tandem, his face smiling, just continuing to pour drinks for them.

The wine they brought needed to be poured first, at least to breathe for thirty minutes.

Once they finally stopped talking, Nathaniel spoke, "I plan to go back home to open a restaurant, Ruby, write me a menu, and at the same time write down the recipes for your few signature dishes." He said it quite naturally, as if Ruby Sullivan was obliged to provide technical support, without the slightest reservation.

Ruby Sullivan glared at him, "What home are you going back to, what restaurant are you opening, what about you and Cindy?"

"Sis, there’s nothing between me and her."

Sasha Shaw unceremoniously slapped his head, "Nathaniel, enough with this. Are you trying to be a deserter of love? You’re in your thirties now, are you going to warm up with your left hand every night without dating?"

"You, young girl, what nonsense are you always talking about? Can I warm up with my right hand instead?" Nathaniel retorted.

"No way!" Sasha Shaw glared back at him.

Sasha Shaw saw the two showing signs of blushing, maintaining a fierce tone, "Enough, you’re all grown-ups, still squabbling here, is it fun?"

"Yes, fun!"

"Yes, fun!"

They answered in unison, exhibiting great tacit understanding.

Ruby Sullivan could only give two thumbs up, showing great admiration.

However, after the argument, the three quickly quieted down, even though they wanted to have a drink together, they each filled their glasses without saying a word, as if each was looking for someone to silently drink with.

Until after three rounds, Nathaniel began to feel slightly tipsy, then said, "This time I’ll go back and have an arranged marriage, get married within a year, become a dad next year, have another one a couple of years later, and aim for a boy and girl to make this life perfect."

He spoke then laughed foolishly, as if envisioning the perfect life he described, feeling immensely pleased.

Ruby Sullivan listened increasingly feeling unfair for Cindy Sterling, "Why can’t Emma be the one? Don’t tell me you can’t accept the scar on her face."

"How could I..."

"Then why?" Sasha Shaw pursued, "If there was a girl who liked me sincerely like that... I’d regret not being bent." She giggled foolishly.

Sasha Shaw always quickly gets buzzed from red wine, generally showing madness first among the three.

Ruby Sullivan frowned, "So, you really are bent?"

Nathaniel looked at her pouting expression, his eyes suddenly softened immensely, raised a hand to cover her head, "I’m straight as an arrow, just don’t like her, she’s too dominant, I prefer gentleness, a bit of meat."

He said then laughed heartily, "Brother, my future pursuit is a wife, kids, and a warm home, still gotta thank Ethan Sterling’s generosity, I can spend the rest of my life putting money in the bank and live a middle-class life comfortably."

"Shameless," Ruby Sullivan disdainfully shook off his hand, getting up to go to the washroom.

The two never noticed Sasha Shaw’s slightly surprised expression. After Ruby Sullivan left, Nathaniel realized her gaze was strangely pointed at him.

"Grown up?"

Sasha Shaw rubbed her eyes, frowned and muttered, "I also want to know if I’ve grown up or gone crazy," she gulped, calming herself down, "Nathaniel, the one you like wouldn’t be Ruby, would it?"

Nathaniel’s nonchalant expression instantly solidified.

"Damn, I knew I wasn’t mistaken!" Sasha Shaw gulped down half a glass of wine to steady herself, "You really hid deep, huh?"

"Shut up! Do you still want to be friends?" Nathaniel pinched her lips, pulling them long, only releasing when she yelped around.

When Ruby Sullivan returned, Sasha Shaw was leaning on Nathaniel’s back, clawing at him as if about to fight him, finding it amusing, she couldn’t help but laugh heartily.

At home, Ethan Sterling checked the time, it was past midnight, although his wife said she might sleep outside, he felt an understanding husband ought to allow her personal space, but he really couldn’t sleep soundly, could he?

After a thirty-second dilemma, Ethan Sterling got up to change clothes, deciding to check on her at the hotel. If their drinking was still ongoing, he’d join, if it was over, he’d get to take his wife home.

Either way it shouldn’t affect her mood of drinking with friends.
