Chapter 328: Chapter 328: Shouldn’t You Go to Hell?

Ruby Sullivan cried until she had no more energy left, her voice hoarse as she said, "I want to go home."

On the way back, she curled up in the passenger seat, hugging her knees without saying a word, her eyes staring blankly, lost in thought. Sometimes she would bury her head in her knees, letting out faint sobs.

Ethan Sterling didn’t dare to ask, nor did he speak. He kept reminding himself to drive carefully.

He knew Faye Truman and Sasha Shaw were the last people on earth who would ever hurt her, but seeing Ruby Sullivan like this, it was obvious she had been deeply traumatized. He desperately wanted to know what had happened that night. Yet witnessing someone he loves in pain and feeling powerless was torturous.

More than thirty minutes later, they arrived home. Ruby Sullivan immediately headed to her son’s room upon entering the house.

Even though she knew she still reeked of alcohol, she couldn’t be bothered to shower or change clothes. All she wanted was to hold her son close.

She owed him so much.

Seth, hearing the noise, groggily opened his eyes, turned on the bedside lamp, and saw the person in front of him. Instinctively, he wrinkled his nose, "Mom, have you been drinking?"

Ruby Sullivan sat right on the floor, leaning over the bed to look at her son, "Son, I’ve missed you."

Seth turned his body, looking at his mother whose face bore a smile but eyes were brimming with tears. He gently wiped her tears with his hand, "Mom, I’ve missed you too."

Ruby Sullivan chuckled foolishly, showing all her teeth, and another stream of tears fell from her eyes. She sniffled and asked, "Can Mom sleep with you tonight?"

"Of course." Seth replied, moving inward on the bed, patting the empty spot beside him, "Mom, you can sleep here."

Ruby Sullivan immediately stood up joyfully, took off her jacket and tossed it aside, leaving her in her jeans as she lay on the bed, embracing her son.

As she inhaled his faint scent, her chaotic thoughts gradually calmed, bringing tranquility to her heart.

Ethan Sterling looked in from the doorway, gently closing the door.

Once back in his room, he immediately called Faye Truman, but the call was directly disconnected. Sasha’s phone, on the other hand, remained unanswered. Sitting on the bed for a moment, he stepped out once more.

Hotel.

Just as Faye Truman unlocked the door, Ethan Sterling kicked it open.

The next second, Ethan Stromed in, grabbing Faye Truman’s collar, "What the hell did you do to Ruby?"

As a fellow man, he had always known that Faye’s feelings for Ruby were not platonic, but he had assumed Faye would keep it a secret for life. Judging by Ruby’s reaction, things were clearly not merely spoken.

Fearing worse had occurred, he was afraid he might lose control and resort to violence!

Faye Truman looked at him, sneering, "The amount of suffering Ruby endures is thanks to you. What right do you have to question me? Whatever’s between Ruby and me is none of your business!"

His words made Ethan lose the last bit of his sanity, and he swung a punch that knocked Faye to the ground, "Fine, I have no right, and I don’t want to ask anymore."

Ethan exploded like a madman, punching Faye’s face and body relentlessly, yet Faye laughed maniacally as if feeling no pain. Knocked down, he quickly got back up, wiping the blood from his mouth, taunting loudly, "Come on."

Sasha Shaw, sleeping in the inner room, was finally woken by the commotion. She rubbed her groggy head, just sitting up when she heard the sound of Faye falling and his breathless taunt, "Come on, Ethan, if you have the guts, beat me to death."

Startled, Sasha didn’t understand why, but she knew they were fighting, and quickly ran out.

Faye was beaten severely, blood filling his mouth, limp on the ground, unable to rise. He sat leaning against the sofa weakly, tilting his head to look at Ethan, still grinning, "What, tired of hitting?"

Ethan knelt on one knee, grabbing his clothes, "Whoever hurt Ruby will pay!"

With one eye swollen and the other badly bloodshot, Faye could barely see, yet he still managed a mocking laugh, "Then maybe you should go to hell yourself?"

"You’re right, I deserve hell, but before that, I’ll spend the rest of my life taking care of her."

"Stop!" Sasha thought Ethan was about to hit again and rushed over, pushing Ethan aside, "Are you insane?" Turning to Faye’s pig-like battered face, she grabbed his arm, helping him up, "Come on, let’s get to the hospital."

She had no idea why Ethan was there or where Ruby went but seeing a friend so beaten, she instinctively reacted.

Ethan raised his arm, blocking her way, "Do you even know what this man did to Ruby?"

Sasha, not fully sober, her head aching like it wanted to part from her body, couldn’t handle complex thoughts, responding on pure instinct, "Even if he did something to Ruby, it’s between them, not your business."

With that, she turned and used her back to shove him aside, gradually helping Faye out.

Ethan watched them leave, his face black with rage.

Faye intentionally let Ethan hit him, surely having done something terrible to Ruby, seeking redemption through Ethan’s attack.

He saw through Faye’s provocation and intention but genuinely wanted to beat him. Having disliked Faye for a long time, he initially thought Faye getting together with Cindy would be fine. Now it seemed Faye was still after his wife!

Ethan kicked the sofa, still furious.

After helping Faye into the taxi, Sasha recalled some necessary questions, "Why was he here? Where’s Ruby? Why was he hitting you, did you and Ruby argue?" She pondered, feeling it unlikely for Ruby to argue with Faye to the extent that Ethan had to intervene and beat him up. Yet, she couldn’t fathom it, finally noticing Faye sat silently, head bowed.

She tilted her head, "I’m asking you, were you beaten stupid by Ethan?"

Faye leaned back, closing his eyes gently, "My mouth hurts."

Seeing his pitiful state, Sasha winced, feeling as if she shared the pain, "Could Ethan have some violent tendencies?" She remembered how Skylar Aldrin once caused trouble at Nirvana and got handled by Ethan alone, making her a bit fearful.

Though he seemed to treat Ruby well now, Sasha couldn’t bring herself to fully trust the man.

"No way, I need to call Ruby." She said, rummaging her bag for her phone, suddenly halted by Faye’s hand.

"Do you know what time it is? Ruby is surely asleep, let’s talk tomorrow."

Only then did Sasha realize that dawn was just a couple hours away, though unable to figure it out. Something must have happened while she slept, and it was something significant.
