Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 321: Twists and Turns
Ethan Sterling glanced at Ruby Sullivan’s stiff expression and directly pressed down the notebook screen, "Sleep, tired."
"Mm." Ruby Sullivan responded softly, but she didn’t move. After a pause, she suddenly turned around and hugged his waist, burying her face in him and said muffled, "Ethan Sterling, I’m feeling a bit down..."
Ethan Sterling gently rubbed her head, "You’ll get used to it."
Ruby Sullivan raised a tear-stained face, her eyes red as she complained, "Is this how you comfort someone?"
Ethan Sterling bent down to kiss her forehead, eyes, nose, cheeks, and lips, then while gently wiping away her tears with a tissue, said, "Come on, let’s sleep, tired. When you wake up, eat a delicious breakfast, and you’ll still be that energetic wife."
Ruby Sullivan pinched his waist, "You only know how to fool me." Her tone was somewhat resentful, but there was a smile on her face.
Although she cheerfully went to start a company, she’s still not very interested in it, just like before. She just wanted to prove to her dad and Rhonda Sullivan; she wanted to be the kind of wealthy person who nonchalantly says money isn’t everything. But she didn’t expect that at the very first step, she seemed to be about to fall flat on her face.
Lying in bed, how could she possibly sleep? Holding Ethan Sterling’s little finger, she said somewhat wistfully, "I’m just not reconciled."
"I understand."
"Do you think I really can’t make it?"
"Not necessarily."
"Do you think I don’t have talent?"
"Yes."
Ruby Sullivan was hurt again, and pinched him hard, "Can’t you make up some comforting lie for me?"
Listening to her coquettish tone, Ethan Sterling actually found her somewhat adorable, making him feel so happy he could fly. He scooped her into his arms, gently patting her, "Having me is enough."
"I want to start my own company." Ruby Sullivan felt his words were just to coax a child, unable to soothe her wounded spirit. Although she knew she was wrestling with herself, unless one day she accomplished something she considered amazing, she would never get over this mental hurdle. Yet she just wanted Ethan Sterling to comfort her, and it had to be genuinely comforting words.
"Start it, it’s going well."
"At this rate, it won’t last until next year before shutting down."
"With money, it won’t collapse."
"But I don’t have money..." Ruby Sullivan wanted to cry again.
"I do."
Ruby Sullivan looked at him but couldn’t help kicking him; wasn’t this the kind of person she wanted to become? How did he so effortlessly become it?
Even getting kicked, Ethan Sterling didn’t get angry. He simply closed his eyes, kept his smile, and continued to pat her arm.
Ruby Sullivan let out a long sigh, "Alright, alright, I have you."
"Mm, exactly." Ethan Sterling was quite satisfied with her slow realization.
Ruby Sullivan’s nap was quite sweet, and when she opened her eyes, it was already past ten o’clock. Ethan Sterling, although he had woken up long ago, seeing her not waking up, continued to sleep until past ten. By the time he took her to the company, it was almost twelve. Ethan Sterling said he wanted to have lunch together, which was promptly declined.
Having just had breakfast at ten, he wanted to have lunch at twelve; what was this man thinking?
Actually, it wasn’t very complicated; he just wanted to spend more time with her.
After arriving at the company, Howard immediately rushed excitedly to her, "Boss, you were right, we got shortlisted."
Ruby Sullivan smiled, though thinking about the few orders brought by the shortlisting, she was already somewhat despaired, to be honest. She thought those orders might have nothing to do with being shortlisted.
Howard, seeing her somewhat reluctant expression, "And there’s another thing."
Ruby Sullivan quietly changed clothes, not paying attention to his suspense.
"Boss, don’t you want to know what I’m going to say?" Howard wiggled his eyebrows, "But it’s good news." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"You’re coming out?"
Howard’s expression instantly froze, "I actually have a girlfriend. Seriously, overnight, orders reached over a thousand. There are two big orders, one with 300, another with 479."
Ruby Sullivan was genuinely surprised this time, "Can you identify the customer of the big orders?"
"The one ordering 300 chatted with me for a while. He seemed like a domestic buyer wanting some discount, but you weren’t here and figured he wanted to stock up pending price adjustments, so I didn’t agree. Then he just ordered directly."
"As for the 500-order one, I was very surprised; it’s Emma’s global fan club, saying they appreciate our brand bringing Emma back." Howard thought of the fans’ enthusiasm and felt happy for Emma.
"Organize the chat records with the fans and email Cindy about it; she’ll definitely be happy to see it."
"Right, should we attend next month’s awards ceremony? The organizers have emailed an invitation to the company."
"No, we definitely won’t win the award." Ruby Sullivan answered decisively.
Howard was surprised, "Why? I actually think if Dr. L can be a master perfumer, there must be unquestionable expertise. Otherwise, Nirvana wouldn’t be shortlisted. Besides, you’re longtime mentors, even if he’s not helping you, he wouldn’t purposely suppress you."
Ruby Sullivan shot him a look, "Are you truly clueless or pretending to be? Alright, I have to work now. Hurry up and go eat."
After driving him away, she sat on the high stool, dazed for a while, but still called Ethan Sterling, "Did you send someone to buy my perfume?"
"I’m not that extravagant."
"Oh, that’s good." Ruby Sullivan actually felt it wouldn’t be him who hired someone, but she’s still somewhat incredulous about the orders suddenly over three digits. "By the way, FIFI sent an invitation for next month’s award ceremony in Caelus."
"Mm."
"I don’t want to go."
"Go, I’ll go with you." Ethan Sterling said very straightforwardly.
Because he figured, if she truly didn’t want to go, she wouldn’t have mentioned this to him at all.
"L is a judge this year; he won’t let me win the award."
"We’ll travel while we’re at it; we’ve never been to Caelus together."
"Then... will you sing ’Balloon Confession’ for me on Elysian Street?"
Ethan Sterling: ...
"Actually, going or not makes no difference." He couldn’t help but change his tune.
Ruby Sullivan burst into laughter, her slightly conflicted mood instantly eased, "I don’t care, anyway, you said you’d go with me, I’ll have Howard handle the visa now, mm, and tailor a nice gown."
"Alright. By the way, VS called, wanting to use our photos for next month’s cover, I’ve already agreed for you."
"Wow, that’s great?"
"Mm, at least no one will feel you’re an unloved wife anymore." Ethan Sterling was also quite happy.
