Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 302: The Marriage She Wants
"Got it, let’s sleep." Ethan Sterling smiled, a smile filled with helplessness and bitterness.
Ruby Sullivan responded softly, turned over to lie down properly, and pulled the thin quilt to cover her waist. She lay on her side with her back to Ethan Sterling, her mind still empty, only his question earlier kept echoing in her ear.
Remarry?
She had thought about it, but never seriously or carefully considered it. Living like this now, remarriage seems inevitable, but being brought up suddenly by Ethan Sterling made it seem a bit off for her.
She had never been seriously proposed to, but she had thought about what a real proposal should be like.
She felt that at least when facing this man and saying those words, her mind should be free of any distractions, just wanting to nod, eager to become his wife instantly, only then would such a marriage be worthy of herself.
She knew she couldn’t go back and couldn’t think about marriage like a young girl anymore, perhaps given more time to think, she wouldn’t refuse.
But she could be certain that even if she agreed, it wouldn’t be what she wanted, and it would definitely add another regret for herself.
So Ethan Sterling didn’t continue the topic, and she felt somewhat relieved and at ease.
After thinking it over, Ruby Sullivan felt much more open, tentatively speaking, "Actually, I was going to say before, if you’re having a really hard time holding it in, you could handle it yourself or... if you want to buy some toys, I think I could accept that, just... don’t use them in front of me."
She spoke with an R-rated scene popping into her mind, not that she was intolerant, just that such a scene seemed cruel to her, yes, she’s a normal woman too.
Ethan Sterling was still pondering the first part of what she said, but hearing the latter part made him laugh and cry at the same time. He propped up half of his body and looked down at her side face obscured in darkness, "Ms. Sullivan, do you think I want to remarry you just to satisfy physical needs?"
Ruby Sullivan was taken aback, she hadn’t thought of it that way, but his words made her feel a bit enlightened, and suddenly she didn’t know what to say.
Ethan Sterling was both amused and annoyed, flicked her lightly on the head, "Stop pretending to be asleep."
Ruby Sullivan wrinkled her nose at the flick, "Having needs isn’t something shameful, even I can understand that."
"It’s all nonsense!" The usually refined Mr. Sterling was so angry he swore, turned over to lie with his back to her, feeling even more vexed than before, like a knot was blocking his heart.
His emotional reaction was indeed too immature. Is he Edwin Sterling, or a naive little child?
Yet still, he’s angry!
He wanted to remarry, to have her comfortably rely on him, to let her enjoy every moment of happiness with peace of mind, and this silly woman, how could she misunderstand?
Afterward, neither spoke. One was angry and frustrated, the other quickly dozed off as her eyelids drooped from fatigue, even though they fell asleep back-to-back, by morning they were lying intertwined, holding hands and legs.
Ethan Sterling opened his eyes to see her calm sleeping face, and the anger from last night was long gone, replaced with understanding and compassion.
It was him who put his woman through so much suffering; her hesitation was normal. At least it showed she was seriously considering their relationship.
He’s not in a hurry, as long as he’s by her side, patiently waiting. Eventually, she will smile and say yes, I do.
Ruby Sullivan slept until noon, and after eating, she and Ethan Sterling played Lego with the two kids. In the evening, the two took the kids for a walk in a nearby park, making Sunday quite fulfilling.
In the days following, Ruby Sullivan immersed herself in hard work once more, and Ethan Sterling continued being the good husband, bringing dinner in the evenings, accompanying her after meals, and waiting in a small meeting room for her to finish work so they could go home together.
Time flew by, and a week later Sasha Shaw arrived at Nirvana with three design proposals to finalize with Ruby Sullivan.
The first set featured a pure white princess dress as the bottle, embellished with star patterns on the skirt, with a cap shaped like a little girl in a ballet pose, her arms crossed upwards, head tilted back, eyes elegantly closed.
Every girl has a princess dream in her childhood, and this design aims to express the purest self.
The second set depicted a fiery red dress, with flames swirling around the base, and a cap shaped like a phoenix spreading its wings.
This set was, of course, inspired by the Nirvana brand, symbolic of rebirth, suggesting that even at a dead end, one should not give up — perhaps after the desperate situation lies the next beauty. It not only aligns with the studio’s theme but also fits Ruby Sullivan’s definition for the perfume.
I, I am who I am, a unique spark, always moving forward regardless of the circumstances.
The third was designed in the shape of a mermaid, inspired by The Little Mermaid story, with a bottle shaped like a mermaid tail, the base a rock, surrounded by swirling waves, and the little mermaid within, playfully flipping her hair and winking sweetly and adorably.
The design was so beautiful; the connection between the cap and bottle was made at the waist, with reflective scales and a chain belt, which should not affect the aesthetics much.
Women’s skirts have been labeled with too many tags by society, one being emotion. Emotion itself is a neutral word, but it has been used negatively in many contexts, as if women become simple-minded when they are emotional.
The story of The Little Mermaid is inherently a tragedy, even though Wonderland has created different versions. Sasha Shaw intended to use this design to tell all girls that love isn’t everything, and only by loving themselves can they have a happy life.
While designing this bottle, she was reminded of the old Ruby Sullivan. If she hadn’t been so fixated in the past, could she have written a different life story?
Understanding her friend’s true intentions, Ruby Sullivan inexplicably felt a sting in her nose, and when Sasha’s presentation concluded, as the lights came on, the tears that had been hanging in her eyes were finally forced out by the light.
She quickly wiped them away with a tissue, thankfully unnoticed by anyone.
Sasha Shaw added, "I’ll design a matching set of clothes based on the finalized design theme."
After she finished, Claire and Tina couldn’t help but clap their hands.
The bottle designs were bold and novel, and it’s believed that every girl would want to own such a bottle of perfume, and even when it’s finished, they’d likely display the bottle!
Ruby Sullivan smiled, which was precisely her intention in hiring Sasha Shaw for the bottle design — it had to be lavish, it had to stand out!
But Howard furrowed his brows slightly, seemingly displeased.
