Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 281: Gwen Yates Is in Trouble
The Sterling Group parents came out of their son’s room feeling both amused and helpless. Their daughter, Honey, is carefree and happy every day, while their son, Ethan, worries constantly. If only they could share each other’s traits a bit more evenly. Indeed, every family has its own troubles.
Not long after, Mama Bennett came out of the bathroom with Honey, who had changed into her pajamas. Her cheeks were rosy, and upon seeing her father sitting in the living room, she anxiously asked, "Dad, did Mr. Yates arrive safely at the university?"
Ethan Sterling stood up and walked over to take his precious daughter from Mama Bennett’s arms. "Not so quickly," he replied.
Honey clung to her father’s neck, somewhat worried. "Mr. Yates said she was scared before leaving. She won’t be in danger, will she?"
"No," Ethan said decisively.
"Then why was she scared?"
"Because she wanted me to drive her back to the university." Ethan had received permission from Ruby Sullivan to communicate this; he believed his daughter could understand such things.
Honey frowned, trying hard to remember what Mr. Yates had said before leaving. It seemed she mentioned the driver taking her, but she hadn’t asked dad to drive her. Could she have remembered wrong?
Ethan placed his daughter on the bed, settled her in, and sat beside her. "Honey, today Dad wants to have a chat with you about Mr. Yates."
"Sure," Honey’s eyes instantly brightened. She liked Gwen Yates a lot, so much that she wanted to share her goodness with others. But her brother doesn’t seem to like her, so she had to hold back many things she wanted to say, thinking her parents were too busy recently to find the opportunity to talk to them.
Ethan Sterling felt he shouldn’t beat around the bush with his daughter and chose a more direct question, "If Mr. Yates approaches you to drive a wedge between mom and me, would you still like her?"
Honey didn’t understand why her dad asked such a thing, but if it were true, of course, she wouldn’t hesitate, "Of course, I wouldn’t like her! But Mr. Yates didn’t do that."
"Mr. Yates did, but she just didn’t let you know," Ethan saw his daughter’s face freeze. "How about we change to a different teacher? There are so many good teachers; surely my daughter doesn’t have to stick with this crooked tree."
Honey looked at her father incredulously, only speaking after a long pause, "Dad, is it because Mr. Yates made me smarter and my brother doesn’t like her? Is my brother afraid I’ll become smarter than him?"
Because this matter was of utmost importance to Honey, it naturally connected her brother’s unprovoked dislike for Gwen Yates to it. After all, Gwen was her teacher. As long as she liked her, why did it matter if others didn’t?
Ethan Sterling saw the tears welling in Honey’s eyes, knowing she was convinced in her belief. Of course, this indirectly confirmed that Gwen Yates was indeed good at teaching Honey.
"Honey, whether it’s mom, brother, or I, we all love you and would never dislike you for any reason. Dad wants to change your teacher because..." he stumbled, unable to utter the word "seduce" in front of his daughter, "there are some adult matters that you might not understand."
He didn’t want to explain any further and gave up. He thought, if having money means his daughter likes someone unworthy, so be it.
"Alright, don’t be sad. Since you like Gwen Yates, we won’t change her." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Honey sniffed, "Dad, can I think about it?"
"Okay." Ethan kissed her forehead. "Think about it tomorrow. For now, go to sleep. Good night."
"Good night, Dad." Honey responded obediently, though her heart felt a bit aggrieved. Since Mr. Yates won’t come tomorrow, she wanted to ask her brother first. Although she didn’t understand why her dad insisted on changing her teacher, she believed her brother wouldn’t dislike her, even if she became smarter than him.
Ethan Sterling came out of his daughter’s room, feeling unexpectedly exhausted. Ruby Sullivan was still bathing. He went into the room to grab some clothes to change, intending to go to another bathroom, when he saw her phone vibrating—it was a call from Gwen Yates.
Thinking it was just a call to say she arrived safely, he didn’t answer. But no sooner had Ruby’s phone stopped ringing than his own phone rang. Sure enough, it was still Gwen Yates.
He felt a little annoyed but still picked up the call, only to be met with hurried breathing, followed by Gwen shouting, "Senior, help, help!"
"Where are you?" Ethan was already heading out.
"School... Ah!" After a scream, the line went dead.
Ethan knocked on the bathroom door and called out loudly, "Gwen Yates might be in trouble at the university. I’m going over there."
Ruby Sullivan peeked out from the bathroom, but he had already gone out the door.
She was immediately a bit displeased. Gwen Yates has so many classmates at the university; she could probably find a dozen guys willing to be her knight in shining armor by just scrolling through her contacts. Why go far to seek help from him?
Ruby leisurely dried her hair and went to the room, only to find missed calls and a WeChat message from Gwen Yates on her phone, saying she had reached the university.
The most unreliable thing in this world is human nature and feelings. She sat dazed on the bed for a while before decisively calling Ethan, "What happened?"
"Gwen Yates is in trouble. I’m taking her to the police station to report it," Ethan’s voice sounded somewhat heavy.
Something serious enough to require reporting to the police... Ruby frowned, found out which police station they were headed to, and hurriedly put on a trench coat over her pajamas and left the house.
On the other side, Ethan knew stopping her wouldn’t work, so he reminded her to drive slowly and stay safe.
In the passenger seat, Gwen Yates clutched herself tightly. Her lips were swollen, there was a large abrasion on her arm, and the collar of her T-shirt had been torn. She used one hand to clutch the torn part firmly.
At this hour, the school’s main gate was already closed. To go back, she had to detour to the north gate and jump over the iron gate. She took a shortcut through a small grove outside the school and unexpectedly encountered a drunken man.
From his voice, the man wasn’t that old, and it seemed he had just broken up with his girlfriend, a student at H University, here yesterday. They were supposed to meet here, but the girl didn’t show up. Heartbroken, he drank heavily and returned to call her. When Gwen walked by, he mistook her for his girlfriend.
It wasn’t until Gwen fought back fiercely that he realized he had the wrong person, and in his panic, he ran away.
When Ruby Sullivan arrived, Gwen Yates was giving her statement. Ethan gave a glance at her pajama pants visible under the trench coat and squeezed her hand, "Cold?"
Ruby shook her head, gazing at Gwen’s back, already guessing the situation, "Is everything... okay?"
"She said she’s fine."
Ruby frowned, slowly walked over, and draped her trench coat over Gwen’s shoulders.
Gwen flinched in shock, turned to see it was her, bowed her head, and murmured a thank-you. After a moment’s pause, she still put on the trench coat.
"Besides these external injuries, is there any substantial harm?" the officer asked.
Gwen quickly answered, "No, he... he ran away in fear."
"Alright, we’ve understood the situation. It’s too late now. We’ll send someone to investigate early tomorrow morning. Wait for our message," the officer continued.
Ruby Sullivan wasn’t quite satisfied with the police’s response but knew she couldn’t change anything and contained her dissatisfaction.
She supported Gwen up, "I’ll send you back to the university."
"No need." Gwen stared blankly ahead. Her voice was hoarse. After taking a few steps, she paused again, "The clothes... I’ll return them after my exams."
Ruby watched her soulless demeanor and felt both pity and helplessness.
