Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 269: Ruby Sullivan Loses Her Temper
After Honey returned to her room, Ruby Sullivan took off her glasses and frowned, her face exceptionally grim. Since she had agreed with Ethan Sterling not to interfere in this matter, she felt it was inappropriate to intervene as she watched her daughter make a difficult decision out of grievance.
As for contradicting Ethan Sterling’s decision in front of their daughter, it would be an even more unwise act, which would only worsen the relationship between their daughter and Ethan.
She crossed her arms in front of her chest, pursed her lips, appearing as though she would either die in silence or explode in silence. Finally, she picked up her phone and called Ethan Sterling.
The call connected quickly, "What’s wrong?"
"Is it convenient to talk?"
"Convenient." Ethan Sterling said as he stood up, leaving a group of subordinates who were presenting a project report, and quickly walked out of the conference room.
Today’s meeting was very important. In the past, even if he answered Ruby Sullivan’s call, he wouldn’t want to waste too much time, but now he had adjusted his priorities; if he loses her, what does it matter if he wins the world?
Ruby Sullivan took a deep breath, and in the next second, began to criticize, "Mr. Sterling, can’t you discuss with me before making such a bizarre decision? What kind of inexplicable choice are you making Honey face? Can’t you just tell her Gwen Yates can’t stay at home, and you’ll find her a place outside? Now that Honey has chosen Gwen, do I really need to make room for her?"
She grew more agitated as she spoke, "No way am I giving up my bed for her!" At some point, she had gotten up from her chair, and when she came to her senses, she found herself with her hands on her hips, projecting a fiercely combative demeanor.
Ethan Sterling thought Ruby wanted to discuss the studio matters with him, not expecting to be thoroughly scolded. When he heard silence on her end, he couldn’t help but chuckle, "Feeling better now?"
Ruby frowned, being scolded and yet laughing, was he acting for someone else? But that didn’t seem right; he said it was convenient to talk, so he should be alone in the office, right?
"What’s so funny?" she snapped, still agitated.
"I’m sorry." Ethan softened his tone, making it more tender, "I was afraid if I discussed it with you in advance, you’d reject it outright. After our date last time, I suddenly realized we never really had a proper romance, which I regret a bit, so I wanted to experience some couple’s life with you."
Ruby was stunned, opening her mouth dryly, but unable to say anything.
Would Ethan feel regret for not having a romance?
"Ms. Sullivan?" When he hadn’t heard her speak for a while, Ethan was a bit worried she had thrown the phone away.
"Hmm." Ruby responded softly, still not knowing what to say.
"If you’re reluctant to part with Honey, I’ll think of another way."
"It’s not exactly reluctance..." Ruby suddenly felt warm, and her words became somewhat shy.
When she heard him say he wanted to spend some couple’s time, it felt as if a defibrillator shocked her heart, and her brain short-circuited, unable to think further.
"We can go home for dinner tonight, definitely not letting Gwen stay in the bedroom; adding a bed to the study will suffice." Ethan continued to persuade.
In truth, he was a bit worried about his daughter’s potential distrust of him, but at this moment, keeping his wife around was his top priority.
Ruby sighed, "But I’m worried, if Gwen spends so much time with the kids, and wants to use them..."
"Use the kids to drive a wedge between us?"
Ruby didn’t respond.
Whenever faced with such issues, the first thing that came to her mind was the divorce certificate lying in the drawer.
"Hmm, that’s indeed a problem." Ethan answered his own question, paused, and then said, "If it really comes to that, we’ll just have to find another teacher for the kids, sweetheart, I’ll handle it."
After hearing her faint acknowledgment from the other end, he comforted her a bit more and then hung up.
Gwen Yates.
Ethan Sterling returned to the meeting room, where the subordinate who was reporting was about to continue, but Ethan waved him off, "Look for a new partner for this project." With that, he got up and left the conference room.
The subordinate was dumbfounded. For this project, he had been on several business trips, engaging with Yates Family personnel for at least a month, and now, with a single sentence from the boss, everything was negated, leaving him on the brink of tears.
A colleague sympathetically patted his shoulder, "Hang in there, buddy!"
Although they were all a bit taken aback by the boss’s decision, none of them doubted it, believing that the boss must have received very important information during that call. However, the boss’s gentle tone during the call... They must have imagined it!
After lunch, Ethan personally called Gwen Yates, "Ms. Yates, this is Ethan Sterling, Honey’s father." He politely introduced himself.
Upon hearing his voice, Gwen immediately guessed it was him, but when he introduced himself, she still covered her mouth excitedly to stifle a happy scream.
She calmed herself and cautiously said, "Hello, Mr. Sterling, what can I do for you?"
"I’ve heard you have no place to stay for the summer. Coincidentally, I have an apartment in the neighborhood, a two-bedroom unit fully furnished. You can move there during the break."
Gwen had anticipated this possibility, and promptly said with difficulty, "I’m afraid not..."
Ethan furrowed his brow and listened to her explanation, "Firstly, because I am somewhat timid and would be scared to live alone in a two-bedroom... Besides, my parents specifically instructed me that I could stay at your home, but definitely not live alone outside, as they are worried about the safety of a girl living alone."
This was a reason Gwen had prepared well in advance, and there were no flaws.
"I understand." Ethan said, then hung up.
In his early years taking over The Sterling Group, Ethan indeed used charm to garner some effective help, never to the extent of playing with women’s feelings, maintaining an appropriate degree of flirtation. After receiving support from The Sullivan Family, he no longer had to engage in such socializing he disliked.
But the situation with Gwen had made Ethan feel a bit troubled again, as if he had a propensity for attracting romance. If Ruby continued to be indifferent, they would likely face similar tests in the future.
With a hardened gaze, Ethan decided it was time to assert his sovereignty.
Meanwhile, on the other end, Gwen felt a bit uneasy after hanging up. She believed Ethan called her because Ruby Sullivan was displeased.
Who in Ariston doesn’t know that Mrs. Sterling is only a titular figurehead? Gwen has seen plenty of news about Ethan’s escapades.
However, the Yates Family’s influence wasn’t in Ariston, and hoping to meet Ethan through her own efforts was almost impossible, so she didn’t expect this opportunity.
Gwen believed this was a divine arrangement. She need not wait until she was dazzling in her own right for Ethan to notice, instead, she intended to rush into the spotlight so he could see her shine!
As for Ethan’s fickleness, it didn’t concern her; he was only fickle because he didn’t love Ruby Sullivan.
