Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 268: Sooner or Later, We’ll Have to Leave Mom
The next morning at breakfast, Honey, anxious all night, couldn’t wait to ask Ruby Sullivan, "Mom, will Mr. Yates be staying at our house over the summer break?"
"No, he won’t." Ethan Sterling answered before Ruby Sullivan could.
Honey immediately felt as if a large bucket of cold water was poured on her, her eagerly expecting little face now brimming with disappointment. Pouting pitifully, she asked again, "Why?" She didn’t like her father being so stern first thing in the morning and turned her pleading eyes to her mom. Isn’t her mom also fond of Mr. Yates? And besides, you clearly agreed yesterday, why did you change your mind overnight?
Ruby Sullivan felt a bit troubled and didn’t answer her daughter.
Last night, she and Ethan Sterling analyzed the current situation and thought it best for the two of them to play good cop, bad cop. Otherwise, fearing Honey’s unstable psychology could lead her to an extreme where she becomes wary of both parents. Since Ethan Sterling currently holds some sway over Honey, it is better to continue playing the good cop for a while longer.
Ethan Sterling saw Honey’s little face all scrunched up like a flower bun and slowly started talking, "You really want Mr. Yates to live at our house?"
Honey then looked at her dad again, nodded with her lips pursed.
Seth Sterling also quite liked Mr. Yates, but thinking about her staying at their home seemed somewhat inappropriate. He vividly remembered those years when Rhonda Sullivan stayed at The Sterling Family home, and couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
In this regard, he was smarter than Honey, even thinking that if his mom was too soft-hearted and agreed, he’d have to remind her once or twice. So when his dad answered Honey, he felt relieved and even mentally gave his dad a thumbs-up, thinking dad did a great job this time.
But upon hearing Ethan Sterling’s words indicating there might still be a chance, considering his parents were recently too worried about Honey, he too got a bit nervous, fixing his gaze upon his father.
Ethan Sterling waited for his daughter’s reaction before continuing, "Alright, then I’ll give you two options. The first one: during the days Mr. Yates stays at our house, I’ll temporarily move out with your mom. You can video call us if you need anything. The second option: Mr. Yates won’t stay at the house, but it won’t affect her coming over during the summer for your lessons, and mom and I won’t move out."
Honey frowned again, muttering quietly, "Why do you have to move out when Mr. Yates comes? If Mama Bennett and Owen Fulton don’t want to give up their rooms, couldn’t they clean up the study for her to stay? Or...the teacher could stay with Honey."
Honey was unhappy; Honey didn’t understand why and felt her dad was deliberately making things difficult for her, her dad was turning bad...
Honey lowered her head, large, fluttering eyes suddenly clouded with a mist of tears.
Ruby Sullivan was heartbroken to see, but didn’t dare to comfort her rashly, for fear it would affect Ethan Sterling’s stature and deterrence in front of Honey.
She heard Ethan Sterling’s words, feeling as befuddled as Honey. This moving-out thing, he hadn’t mentioned a word last night. She thought, at most, he would rent a place nearby for Gwen Yates to stay temporarily.
Ethan Sterling indeed thought that last night, just didn’t tell Ruby Sullivan.
They were living together now, seemingly living well, but after all, technically already divorced, although theoretically it’s only a matter of a paper, but this paper is very important to Ethan Sterling at present, especially after hearing Ruby Sullivan’s intention to start her own brand, it made him even more unsettled.
Ruby Sullivan’s working state is something others might not understand, but of course, he does. The thought of her going out into the public eye inevitably drawing attention from other men to see the charm of his wife made him anxious, he must do something.
He bet on Ruby Sullivan wouldn’t immediately refute even if doubtful in front of the children, deciding to seize the opportunity.
After dating Ruby Sullivan at the school that time, he clearly knew that what this girl lacked was her entire teenage years; an innocent little girl resides in her heart, but due to later experiences, she ended up sealing herself off. Only by seeing that girl from back then again could he truly win her heart back.
Ethan Sterling didn’t know how much time and effort he would have to spend, didn’t even know whether he could succeed, but he must try hard.
Seth Sterling, knowing his father’s mind, settled down and continued to eat.
In his eyes, mom and dad staying together was more important than anything, though, he didn’t blame his sister. After all, his sister was still young.
Um, younger by a few minutes, perhaps.
Honey pondered for quite some time but didn’t know how to decide. Despite not having much interaction with her mom recently, the thought of not seeing her mom made her uneasy.
Thinking it over, she could only look to her mom for rescue, hoping her mom would help put in a good word.
Ruby Sullivan, fearing she might soften towards her daughter, controlled herself not to look her way.
Ethan Sterling could throw such difficult-to-decide questions at his adorable and naïve daughter; he was practically no human. Thankfully, he acted non-human so she could continue to be a warm and amiable good mom, which seemed not bad.
Throughout breakfast, Honey didn’t even finish a bowl of porridge, yet neither her dad nor mom, not even the brother who always adored her, cared about her distress.
After Ethan Sterling went to work, Honey immediately went to her mom, acting spoiled, all revolving around one central idea: wanting Mr. Yates to stay with her, yet not wanting mom and dad to move out.
Ruby Sullivan had no choice but to temporarily put down her work and gently shake her head at her daughter’s plight.
Only then did Honey reluctantly accept it, carefully weighing the two options but, in the end, couldn’t come to a conclusion, eventually deciding to discuss it with her brother.
Seth Sterling harbored private intentions regarding this matter; he hoped dad and mom could have some time to enjoy their world together. So pretending to think for a while, he eventually said, "I still hope Mr. Yates can stay at the house; this way we can still discuss star-gazing together at night, don’t you think?"
"I’m afraid I’ll miss mom." Honey was actually somewhat leaning towards this choice too.
Seth Sterling acting like a little adult patted Honey on the shoulder, "We eventually have to learn to leave mom; adapting now is also not bad."
Although Honey didn’t quite understand, feeling her brother’s words made much sense, she pondered briefly and nodded, "Then I’ll go tell mom."
Ruby Sullivan was taken aback by Honey’s choice. She thought her daughter would eventually choose to let her stay, feeling a bit hurt for a moment. Had the child already reached the age of wanting to distance from mom?
"You’ve...decided?"
Honey nodded, then went up to hug Ruby Sullivan, "Mom, if I miss you, can I go see you?"
"Of course. Mom will also come back to see you."
Ruby Sullivan rubbed her daughter’s shoulder, not sure whether this decision was right, overall feeling...just a bit uncomfortable.
Was she really going to let her child spend a month bonding with a girl who’s set eyes on her husband? Thinking about this, Ruby Sullivan angrily furrowed her brow, feeling Ethan Sterling’s decision was utterly brainless.
