Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 262: Where’s the Big Brother You Promised?
Until dinner time, Honey still hadn’t woken up. Ruby Sullivan saw the little one sleeping so soundly, worried that if she woke her up now, Honey wouldn’t be able to sleep at night, so she simply let her skip a meal and continue her nap.
After dinner, Ethan Sterling called out to Seth Sterling, who was about to return to his room to look at the stars, "Come here."
Seth, seeing his father’s serious demeanor, was a bit apprehensive but unwillingly walked over.
"Why didn’t you comfort your sister when she was upset in the living room today?" Ethan thought of what Honey had said and worried if Seth had been showing off in front of her.
Seth’s care for his sister was genuine, but after all, he was still a child, and the things he said or did inadvertently could potentially hurt her.
Honey is just too sensitive right now. Even if we find the right psychologist, it’s still necessary to properly educate our son.
Upon hearing what this was about, Seth was quite troubled. He jumped onto the sofa, sat next to his dad, and said, "Dad, it seems like my sister has started to dislike me." He sighed after speaking, lowering his head in dejection and muttering softly, "It’s all your fault for not letting me pick that male tutor."
If it weren’t for Dad giving him warning looks all the time, if it weren’t for his concern over whether his father might be ill-equipped to fight, if it weren’t for his fear of losing his mother...
In short, it’s all Dad’s fault. If Dad were kinder to Mom, if their relationship were better, he wouldn’t worry about choosing that male tutor, as it’s not his home tutor after all. He would surely prioritize making his sister happy.
Sigh... this Dad is truly useless.
Seth sighed again but didn’t voice his thoughts for fear of hurting his father.
With a barely noticeable pursing of his lips, Ethan pretended he hadn’t heard Seth’s complaints and continued, "Do you remember the time you were kidnapped? Do you still have nightmares about it?"
He felt it might be best not to meddle in the problem between the siblings. Children have their ways of communicating, and he should trust his son.
Seth thought it over and answered earnestly, "No."
Indeed, Seth had nightmares shortly after being rescued, but later, because he was constantly in the hospital and had to comply with check-ups and whatnot, he was usually too mentally exhausted to focus on it, sleeping a lot, effectively forgetting this issue.
Thinking about what his dad said, he asked, "Did my sister have nightmares?"
"This incident caused some psychological harm to your sister, making her recently very sensitive and afraid we wouldn’t like her," Ethan knew his demands on his son would be somewhat excessive, yet feared his daughter might develop extreme thoughts, similar to him in the past.
"Seth, can you momentarily set aside your preferences and spend more time with your sister, helping her keep pace with you? Right now, she’s a bit upset with herself, fearing we wouldn’t like her."
Seth frowned, "My sister would notice." That Mr. Bishop is the real big dummy. His sister isn’t dumb at all. Every time he accommodates her, she realizes it. He knows this but believes that if he doesn’t pursue his interests, she won’t be happy, which is why he’s persisted in studying what he wants and doing what he wants.
Isn’t it quite tiring to be a brother like this?
Seeing his dad’s perplexed look, he heaved a third sigh of the night, "Dad, I understand. I’ll take good care of my sister."
After saying this, Seth jumped off the sofa and returned to his room, sulking.
Ruby Sullivan, who had been helping in the kitchen, purposefully stayed away to give father and son some space. However, she had eavesdropped on most of their conversation. After Seth left, she quickly wiped her hands, rushed over to Ethan, poked his forehead vigorously, and complained angrily, "You’re too hard on our son."
Seth rubbed his forehead, "Why didn’t you say so earlier?"
"It’s not like I wanted to destroy the heroic and towering father figure you have in our son’s eyes," Ruby said, leaving Ethan speechless, she hurried to Seth’s room to check on him.
Seth was too understanding, but just because he was understanding doesn’t mean we can bully him. Ruby had no desire to raise a self-sacrificing son. If it came to that, she’d rather have one who lived life heedlessly. At least he would be living freely, without constantly suppressing himself.
Sitting on the bed, gently crying, Seth heard a knock, grew nervous, quickly wiped his tears, and went to open the door, "Mom."
His voice was hoarse, his eyes were red, clearly showing signs of crying.
Ruby knew how rarely Seth cried; something his father said must have deeply hurt him for him to be this upset.
Her heart ached as she moved to hug him, but Seth backed away, avoiding her.
"Mom, your waist injury means you shouldn’t be carrying me," Seth reminded.
Alright, Ruby was stunned, settling for squatting to pull her son into a hug, her heart aching even more for him. Seth was such a child, always thinking of her and Honey. How could Seth not want to comfort his sister?
She didn’t know what to say, so she just kissed Seth’s cheek, held him for a good while, and then led him by the small hand to sit on the bed, "Seth, Dad wasn’t blaming you earlier. He’s also worried about Honey. Can you forgive him?"
"Mom, is my sister in a bad state?" He had never seen Honey so angry before.
Gently embracing him, Ruby didn’t know how to explain the complexities of human emotions, but she assured him, "With Mom here, I won’t let Honey get too bad."
Back in bed, Ruby was still worrying about the two little ones, feeling muddled as if she had forgotten something important, but even in her sleep, she couldn’t recall it.
The next morning, shortly after Mama Bennett had gone out grocery shopping, someone knocked on the door. Owen Fulton assumed Mama Bennett had forgotten something, but opening the door revealed a young girl in her twenties standing there.
"Excuse me, is this the Sterling residence? I’m here to apply for the tutor position." The girl introduced herself with a smile.
Ruby, hearing the voice, came out from inside and froze at the sight of the young lady at the door, suddenly remembering what she had forgotten.
"Hello, ma’am." Gwen Yates greeted Ruby with a slight smile, explaining, "Ryan Vaughn, my cousin, couldn’t make it due to something coming up, so he asked me to come instead."
Still bewildered, Ruby reacted upon seeing Owen looking at her, "Please come in."
Honey, having emerged ever since they began talking, now pressed against the wall, cautiously peeking at Gwen. Finding her even prettier than the lady from yesterday, she quickly hid behind her mom, clinging to her coat.
Little Honey was now not only wary of her dad but also didn’t have a good opinion of this beautiful young lady.
Ruby ruffled her daughter’s head, inwardly full of questions. How could it be such a coincidence? They had just met yesterday, and now here she was.
Gwen changed into slippers and crouched down to Honey’s level, smiling, "Hello, little beauty. My name is Gwen Yates, pleased to make your acquaintance."
Honey hesitated but eventually extended her chubby little hand to tug on Gwen’s fingers, "Hello, my name is Dulcie Sterling, pleased to make your acquaintance."
