Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Bedtime Service Matters

Ruby Sullivan rubbed her forehead where it was flicked painfully, looking at Ethan Sterling with an indifferent attitude, her eyelids drooping, feeling even more annoyed. Speaking of which, he was much gentler with Rhonda Sullivan back in the day.

"Did you ever date Rhonda Sullivan before marrying me?" she glared at him, her icy voice showing no sign of joking.

"Huh?" Ethan Sterling was dumbfounded by her question and rubbed her head with amusement. "Did I hit you too hard?"

Ruby Sullivan pushed his arm away, "Oh, stop messing with my hair. Do you dare to tell me the truth?" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

She admitted she was naive back then, didn’t notice anything, maybe these two were really together early on! Even though knowing now might mean nothing, she still wanted to get things clear.

He found her serious questioning amusing and instinctively wanted to pinch her lips, but then met her chilly glare.

Ethan Sterling immediately adjusted his attitude, knowing now wasn’t the time for lip-pinching, and responded with the same seriousness, "No, before marrying you, I was only focused on The Sterling Group, didn’t date anyone."

Having received such a formal answer, Ruby Sullivan felt a bit embarrassed, her taut posture deflated. She sighed, "Is getting upset with a lunatic a sign of illness?"

Ethan Sterling knew the lunatic she referred to was Rhonda Sullivan, but he didn’t think she was in the wrong.

If it were her, knowing she lives well and carefree, she’d only be more irritated, so that rainy night, he didn’t want to help send Rhonda Sullivan to the hospital.

That woman had done too many heartless things, so even the heavens wouldn’t help her.

But now that it’s done, he hoped she’d be a little happier.

"Since you know you’re being irrational, don’t overthink it. Want to eat?" he tried to console her.

"No, I’ve gained weight recently, I’ll start dieting." Ruby Sullivan said this and lay back in bed, clearly upset and not wanting to talk further.

Ethan Sterling discreetly left the room to go eat in the dining room.

Brandon Sullivan saw him and looked dissatisfied, "Where’s my daughter?"

"Upset by you, she’s on a hunger strike." Ethan Sterling responded nonchalantly, sitting beside Honey.

"Hmph, she must not be hungry." Brandon Sullivan scoffed.

The two children heard his words and were worried.

Honey hastily asked, "Is Mom going on a hunger strike?"

Seth Sterling also looked at him anxiously, waiting for his answer.

Ethan Sterling nodded and glancing at Brandon Sullivan, continued, "Your mom specifically took time off work to take better care of the family, but someone didn’t appreciate it and deliberately made her upset."

Honey was confused and looked at her brother helplessly, "Brother, did we make Mom angry?"

Seth shook his head, "Let’s eat quickly and go see Mom after."

Brandon Sullivan paused for a moment, then put down his bowl, "Ethan Sterling, you don’t have to sarcastically talk about me. My matters with my daughter are none of your business." Then he took a few bites of rice, felt choked, and slammed his bowl on the table, getting up to exclaim, "I’m not eating either!"

Ethan Sterling was also quite annoyed. Had he known Brandon Sullivan would be like this after waking up, he would have stopped the treatment long ago. Back then, his life was in Rhonda Sullivan’s hands. If he hadn’t disagreed, would he still have the power to upset his wife now?

The two kids sensed something was off in the atmosphere and quietly ate their food, eager to finish and go visit their mom in the room.

Seeing the room dark, they called for Mom but got no response. The little ones exchanged glances and retreated from their mom’s room, closing the door.

Honey quietly asked her brother, "Is Mom okay?"

Seth knew it was another quarrel between Mom and Grandpa, but neither Grandpa nor Mom would tell them about it, so he could only console his sister, "It’s fine, Dad will handle it."

Seth gently led her downstairs, "Did you have any nosebleeds today?"

Honey shook her head, "No, it should be fine now."

Seth still felt a bit worried, "Do you think we should go to the hospital for a check-up?"

Honey suddenly stopped, "Brother, you promised not to tell Mom and Dad." She knew her ailment; as long as it wasn’t chronic bleeding, it would be fine. She didn’t want to go to the hospital, afraid she’d have to stay or endure another painful examination.

"Alright then." Seth wasn’t sure if this was the right decision, but he had some understanding of his sister’s condition. If something serious occurred, she wouldn’t be able to hide it.

The two slowly made their way down, with no one overhearing their conversation.

After coaxing the two kids to sleep, Ethan Sterling returned to the room, finding Ruby Sullivan already sound asleep. Knowing she was a light sleeper, he moved gently onto the bed. Just as he turned off the light, he heard her turn over.

"Did I wake you?" Ethan Sterling asked.

"I wasn’t asleep." Ruby Sullivan sighed, her eyes closed and exhausted, but she just couldn’t fall asleep.

"Want me to massage your head?" Ethan Sterling asked again.

"Okay." Ruby Sullivan agreed, lifting her head to rest on his arm. In this position, Ethan Sterling’s hand could easily reach her head.

He had just taken a shower and was still a bit cool, keeping just the right distance to avoid chilling her. He was contemplating whether to bring up the topic of her returning to work when he noticed her breathing had deepened, this time truly asleep.

The tension between Brandon Sullivan and Ruby Sullivan persisted, but it was no longer at the point where even a glance was vexing. They could now eat together, offer simple greetings, and communicate when necessary. Although Ruby Sullivan prepared dinner daily, she couldn’t be bothered whether he ate well or not.

Soon it was Faye Truman’s birthday. He planned to throw a costume party at home, inviting many friends. Sasha Shaw originally had a show in Milanza this month with lots of work, but she made time and took an overnight flight back.

Ruby Sullivan went to the airport to pick her up, seeing her face thick with makeup but already smudged beyond recognition.

"So are you planning on dressing as a ghost?" Ruby Sullivan stifled her laughter as she asked.

Sasha Shaw rolled her eyes, placing her luggage on the cart for her to push, and said wearily, "I’ve worn myself out for his costume party, nearly losing half my life. I’m just glad it’s only you two best friends. If there were one more, I might not cope."

Listening to her endless complaints, Ruby Sullivan felt she seemed in good spirits, at least not the lost soul she’d become after her previous breakup.

Sasha Shaw rattled off a series of embarrassing moments from the show, then, realizing there were less than three hours until Faye Truman’s birthday party, hurriedly asked, "What should I dress up as tonight? I still haven’t decided!"

Harley Quinn, a vampire, an old witch... Sasha Shaw weighed her options, aiming to make a stunning impression.

Faye Truman mentioned inviting several university classmates from Ariston, particularly highlighting the presence of eligible bachelors. Sasha felt it was necessary to seize the opportunity.

"Ah, I’ve got it!" Suddenly, something sparked in her mind.
