Chapter 234: Chapter 234: Twisted Memories

Last night and this morning, Brandon Sullivan didn’t eat well, and he went out alone to such a far place. By the time the food was served, he was extremely hungry, not only eating two big bowls of rice but also almost an entire large yellow croaker by himself.

Compared to meat, he prefers fish, which was something Mama Bennett told Ruby Sullivan, and he never used to eat any fatty meat. However, Ruby always thought his favorite was her specialty braised pork.

Seeing that her father was in a good mood while eating, Ruby Sullivan finally asked about him going to the hospital alone, "Dad, if you go out by yourself, I’ll be very worried. If you need to go somewhere, you have to tell me first." She spoke to him in the tone she uses to educate Honey, because this matter was non-negotiable.

Brandon Sullivan rubbed his round belly, also feeling that he didn’t handle today’s matter quite well. He blinked silently for a long time, unable to think of an excuse but still stubbornly said, "I planned to come back before you got home."

"Dad." Ruby Sullivan slightly intensified her tone, refusing to let him gloss over it.

"Alright, alright, I’ll tell you next time." Brandon Sullivan agreed somewhat irritably. He had meant to return to his room, but seeing the servant bring post-meal fruits, he started eating again, abandoning the idea of leaving.

Using food as a supporting tool was a method Ruby often used on Honey, her gluttonous daughter always falling for it. Now, it seemed quite effective on her quirky old-child father too.

Ruby observed his expression and probed, "What did you do when you visited my sister today?"

"I sat with your sister for a while, chatted a bit." Thinking about it made him angry again, and he glared at her, "Your sister was ruined by that Ethan Sterling, and you still can be with him?" After speaking, he snorted coldly, "You’re really going to anger me and your sister."

"My sister was harmed by him?" Ruby Sullivan listened more confused, "Dad, don’t you remember that I married Ethan Sterling right after I graduated?"

Brandon nodded, "Of course, I remember, you insisted on marrying him despite my opposition. As a result, your sister also liked him, coming to me crying and fussing. I really don’t know what was so good about that punk."

Ruby Sullivan frowned, "Did you know early on that my sister liked him?"

"Ah, it’s no secret anyway." Brandon Sullivan was righteously confident.

Ruby was stunned and after a moment, suddenly slammed the table and stood up, "Did you know she liked Ethan Sterling all along? Why did you let her move to my house and not tell me anything? Do you know I was almost killed by her?"

Brandon Sullivan was dumbfounded by Ruby’s sudden outburst, staring at her blankly, unable to say a word.

Ruby, extremely upset and unable to control her emotions, stormed out, taking the stairs two at a time and locking herself in her room.

Mama Bennett, hearing the commotion, came out to see what was going on. Brandon Sullivan innocently said, "I really spoil Ruby. Clearly, Rhonda was dating Ethan Sterling, and she insisted on cutting in love. So why blame me for not telling her? Did she not know..." Brandon Sullivan sighed, "I really owe Rhonda too much."

As he said this, something unknown triggered him, and suddenly tears streamed down his face as he cried in great sorrow.

Mama Bennett quickly handed him tissues, cautiously saying, "Sir, did you perhaps remember wrong? Before the second girl married, the elder girl didn’t seem to have dated Mr. Sterling."

"I didn’t remember wrong; today Rhonda personally just told me, it’s Ruby who cut in love and didn’t cherish it, insisted on getting a divorce. Just when Rhonda was about to get married to Ethan Sterling, Ruby was unhappy abroad and came back wanting to remarry Ethan, even using The Sullivan Group as bait."

He felt increasingly upset, "You know when Ruby was a kid, what an obedient child she was, and I absolutely can’t let her keep making mistakes." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Mama Bennett was speechless on hearing this.

Many things she didn’t know, but listening to the master speaking as if it were true, it wasn’t her place to say anything. But hearing him blaming Ruby Sullivan all the time made her uncomfortable, so she couldn’t help but speak for Ruby, "Sir, you might not know what happened later, having been in the hospital all the time. Rhonda Sullivan really made the second girl suffer miserably; she lost a two-month pregnancy, almost lost her life."

Although she said everything she wanted to say, it seemed Brandon Sullivan didn’t hear a word. His eyes, reddened, stared straight ahead; he got up, muttered "tired," and went back to his room.

He had his own plans, feeling he owed the eldest daughter so much that he had to make it up to her.

Ethan Sterling mused that after what he said to Ruby Sullivan at noon, given her temperament, she would surely prepare a meal full of his favorite dishes by evening. Even if she wouldn’t mention any personal matters, she’d say a word or two of thanks.

Instead, when he got home, Honey ran over to hug him and worriedly said, "Mom said she was in a bad mood and went to bed without dinner."

Seth was also concerned, "Mama Bennett picked us up from school this evening. After we got home, we just greeted her, and she told us to leave the bedroom." After speaking, he looked a bit forlorn, feeling like he couldn’t help his mom.

Ethan Sterling set his daughter down, comforting the two children, "Let me go check on your mom first." After saying that, he headed upstairs to the bedroom.

The room was dark, with the lights turned off. When he turned them on, Ruby Sullivan on the bed frowned.

"I heard someone is in a bad mood."

Ruby pouted, turned over, and didn’t speak. She was embarrassed to tell Ethan Sterling about her tiff with her father.

Brandon Sullivan’s temper was very irrational lately, doing and saying whatever he pleased, ignoring facts and disregarding others’ feelings. Yet, she was angry at such a father, which was immature, but she didn’t want to force herself to be mature just yet.

After changing into his home clothes, Ethan Sterling sat beside her, "Do you not speak when you’re asleep?" After waiting a while and still getting no response, he imitated an affected voice, "Does this mean I can do whatever I like?" saying this, he touched her forehead with a playful tug.

Ruby abruptly opened her eyes, "Are you even human?"

He chuckled softly, pinching her pouting lips, "Why are you upset?"

"Ugh!" Ruby disgustedly knocked his hand away, "My dad actually knows about Rhonda liking you. He knows everything yet still lets Rhonda come to my house. I suspect he even knows Rhonda wants to seduce you and is doing it on purpose!"

Ethan saw her growing more angry as she spoke and flicked her on the forehead, "Have you been using your perfumer’s imagination for this? Imagination is good, but fabricating is not. Maybe suggesting she goes back to the lab for a while would help. It seems her attempt to accompany her dad isn’t going well."
