Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 167: Support
The next day, Ruby Sullivan got up early and, for the first time in a while, had breakfast with everyone. Then, she went to the supermarket with Leon Sterling. She planned to make some of Emma’s favorite dishes to support her; with Emma leaving, who knows when she’d see her again.
Emma was thrilled to hear they were coming. "This afternoon, I have to shoot a scene with wirework, flying around, and I’m a bit scared. You guys coming will give me some courage."
Emma had a fear of heights since birth; as a child, even playing on a slide would make her dizzy. After starting work, she forced herself to go bungee jumping once to overcome her fear. Though she was terrified and felt like she lost half her life, it wasn’t in vain, as her fear of heights improved a bit afterwards.
This film was a great opportunity for her to break into the film industry. The script was good, the director first-rate, and they were willing to use newcomers. Even though she anticipated having to do wirework, Emma was reluctant to miss this chance.
Despite her plans, when it was time to perform, this new recruit’s legs were shaking, and she felt stage fright.
Ruby Sullivan thought of Sasha Shaw, the fan, and called to ask if she wanted to come along. Sasha, who was still sleeping, perked up immediately upon hearing this and was more than willing to join.
Since the decision was so sudden, there wasn’t time to arrange for one of those impressive support vehicles, but after consulting Sasha’s suggestions, they bought lots of drinks and snacks to bring along.
After nearly an hour’s drive, they arrived at the filming location, just in time for lunch break. Emma was wearing a pale blue costume, with her face smeared with grime, as the scene demanded, looking as if she’d just escaped from a fire.
Spotting them, she rushed over to hug Leon Sterling, looking like she’d been through a lot, "Brother, you guys are finally here." Remembering what she’d heard over the phone, she quickly turned to Ruby Sullivan, holding her hand, "Wenny, how’s your health?"
"Pretty good recovery; otherwise, Blake wouldn’t have the time to come see you." Ruby Sullivan replied with a smile.
Emma pursed her lips and suddenly felt apologetic, "It’s all big brother’s fault. Once I’m done filming, I’ll help you teach him a lesson."
"Once you’re done filming, just hurry up and help me shoot the Daydream advertisement." Ruby Sullivan winked, not wanting to talk about divorce, leaving The Sterling Group, or any of those unhappy topics.
"Of course," Emma laughed as well.
"Alright, hurry up and try the food I brought." Ruby Sullivan pulled Emma to find a place to sit.
Excited Sasha, after greeting Emma, pulled Leon Sterling to help carry stuff. It was the lunch break, a perfect time to deliver the drinks.
The two went back and forth several times before they were done, both sweating profusely.
Leon Sterling handed her a bottle of drink, "I didn’t think you were so strong."
Sasha wiped her sweat, giggling, "I’m always lugging this and that around; how could I manage without some strength? Plus, running around factories and stuff, I need to be fit." She flexed her arm to show her toned forearm, raising an eyebrow, "This is all standard equipment."
Leon Sterling laughed, "Look at you being all impressive."
Whenever he’s with her, he always finds something to laugh about, the reason he wanted to be friends with her in the first place. She reminds him of Ruby Sullivan when she was little. Upon reflection, the two are childhood friends, so it’s normal for them to have similar personalities.
Noticing she kept glancing at the table, he suggested, "Since you’re Emma’s fan, why not go over and chat a bit more? My sister’s schedule is packed; opportunities like this don’t come twice."
Sasha, somewhat shyly, scratched her head, grinning foolishly, "Because I’m a fan, I don’t know what to say. Should I say my love for her is as endless as the Yellow River?" As a fan, she figured watching Emma from afar and distributing support drinks was enough.
The sunlight was a bit glaring; her brows furrowed slightly, face beaming with a radiant smile, slick with shimmering sweat, looking unusually pretty without any makeup.
Leon Sterling couldn’t help but glance several more times, wanting to remember her adorable face at that moment.
Sasha withdrew her gaze, turning to Leon Sterling, "Earlier, you mentioned someone you liked, was it Ruby?" Though she believed she guessed right, it still seemed a bit unbelievable.
A young uncle liking his sister-in-law, quite the bold storyline.
Leon Sterling’s face stiffened for a moment, smiling to deny, "Of course not, I consider her a good friend."
Sasha raised an eyebrow, no more questions, "I was going to say, if it were, it’d be great. Although... catching up to Ruby would be challenging, that silly girl really needs a good man to take care of her."
Leon Sterling smiled awkwardly, feeling her friendship wasn’t enough to comprehend Ruby Sullivan’s personality. Since Ruby chose to leave, why would she want to get entangled with The Sterling Family again? He knew long ago that there was no possibility between them.
Although Emma was the lead role, she was still a newcomer, and the director wasn’t too happy about hearing about idle people wanting to enter the set. Coincidentally, this director was quite familiar with Sasha. Not only had they worked together well before, but he also admired Sasha’s aesthetic, which is why he issued passes for the three.
Emma’s afternoon scene involved jumping off a burning high-rise to chase down the arsonist. Though the makeup made her look disheveled, she had to appear fierce and the stance had to be elegant during the jump.
Standing on the rooftop, Emma took several deep breaths. Though the five-meter height was insignificant compared to bungee jumping, it was still a challenge for her. She glanced at Leon Sterling from afar, saw him smile at her, and felt a bit comforted, raising her hand to signal readiness to the director.
The crew chief sprinted to the front, shouting, "Scene 763 of ’Azure Sky,’ action!"
On the rooftop, Emma tilted her head, giving a side profile shot, then jumped off without hesitation.
Mid-air, she suddenly halted for a moment, with a sharp "ah" scream, her expression changed. Her arm hung like a puppet without strings, causing her to fall to one side, sharply crashing into a tree, then hitting the ground.
"Cut, cut, cut!" The director shouted loudly.
Everyone was terrified and rushed forward. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Leon Sterling picked up the fallen Emma, seeing a large gash on her right cheek, half her face smeared with blood, her left arm dislocated, hanging limply.
The stunt coordinator quickly helped put her arm back in place, but the injury on her face couldn’t be determined immediately. Her agent was frantic, driving her straight to the hospital in Leon Sterling’s car.
On the way, Emma could feel the wound on her face increasingly painful, clutching paper towel after paper towel to staunch the blood.
Gently leaning against Ruby Sullivan’s embrace, her heart sank bit by bit. She had a hunch her face was probably ruined.
She listened to her agent, Iris Lawson, making calls in the car, constantly discussing worst-case scenarios and compensation with a lawyer, feeling irritable, disregarding the wound on her face, she shouted, "Iris Lawson, can you shut up!"
Her agent flinched in shock, lowering her volume to finish her explanation, hanging up.
Ruby Sullivan hugged her arm, patting gently, "Don’t worry, I’ve already called Nathaniel; he’ll surely have a way to save your face." She noticed Emma’s body trembling slightly, furrowing her brow tightly and adding, "No crying, no matter how much you want to cry; hold it back, tears will affect the wound."
Emma bit down on her lip hard, responding with a difficult "um."
