Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 168: Don’t Overwork Yourself
Leon Sterling took Emma to the nearest hospital, and after some basic first aid, the bleeding had mostly stopped.
"The wound is a bit long. Although the surface injury isn’t large, it’s quite deep for the face. I recommend stitches," the doctor suggested.
"No stitches," the agent loudly objected. "If her face is ruined, her career is over."
"Can you shut up for a moment?" Ruby Sullivan pushed the young agent aside in exasperation and took a deep breath before saying to the doctor, "My sister is an actress. Can we discuss this first and then make a decision?"
The doctor nodded, "I’m only suggesting it. The wound is on the face, and she’s a young girl. If the wound wasn’t so difficult, I wouldn’t have made such a suggestion."
"Understood." Ruby Sullivan waited for the doctor to leave, then turned to look at Nathaniel. He was on the phone, gesturing for her to be quiet. After hanging up, he quickly came over and said, "Let’s go to our hospital. I’ve arranged it. I’ll have a closer look at her condition and then handle it there."
"Okay." Ruby Sullivan nodded, pulling aside the curtain to help Emma. "Let’s go to Nathaniel’s hospital."
Emma looked despondently at Nathaniel.
He spoke before she could, quickly saying, "Try not to talk, trust me." His expression was serious, his gaze firm, each word he spoke carried weight, and this gave Emma hope.
She let out a long breath and nodded.
Although the beauty clinic’s equipment was more advanced and professional, it couldn’t change the fact that the wound was very severe. Nathaniel immediately convened an expert meeting, but in the end, no one could guarantee that her face wouldn’t scar.
Nathaniel was silent for a moment before saying, "I’ll take responsibility for this case." Then he strode into the office, telling Emma, who was anxiously waiting, "Trust me, I’ll ensure your face is as good as new, but you absolutely cannot continue filming this movie."
Emma lowered her head, clenching her fists tightly. After a while, she looked up and nodded at him.
Ruby Sullivan called Emma’s "dear" agent in Gallia, who, upon hearing about Emma’s situation, promised to come over immediately. After explaining the situation to her agent, Sasha Shaw helped make a call to the director, hoping to handle the matter amicably.
In the afternoon, Ruby Sullivan took Emma back to The Sterling Family home, where Rachel Lawson was anxiously waiting for her daughter in the living room.
Among the three children, she should have loved her youngest daughter the most, but in reality, she had given her the least. When Emma was two, every time she saw her, she would be reminded of her recently deceased husband, so she left her in the care of servants most of the time.
Rachel and Mr. Sterling had Emma after realizing their love for each other. She was the only child who was a product of love but was also the pain Rachel least wanted to face.
Emma, wearing an ancient-style white long gown, her face wrapped in blood-stained bandages, looked like a prisoner from a historical drama. Rachel, seeing this, had tears welling in her eyes. She stepped forward, trembling slightly, and took her daughter’s hand, "It’s okay now, you’re home."
Ruby Sullivan, too, was overwhelmed with emotion and quickly cleared her throat to make her voice clear, wanting to lighten the atmosphere. She smiled and said, "Alright, the doctor said all she needs is to rest well. Don’t be upset anymore."
Emma nodded along, raising her head as much as she could, fearing tears might fall onto her wound.
Seeing this, Leon Sterling quickly grabbed some tissues to wipe her tears away. "Emma shouldn’t cry lately, and try not to talk much either."
Rachel eagerly pulled her daughter inside.
Ruby Sullivan went to see Mama Bennett and sent her a long list via phone. "These are the things Miss Sterling should avoid, and these are what she should eat more of. Please take some extra effort to cook separately for her every day."
"It’s no trouble; it’s what I should do." Mama Bennett saved the list.
When she returned to the living room, two little ones were looking for her. They were not very familiar with their Aunt Emma, but her facial injuries worried them.
"You can go see your aunt and chat with her, say some happy things. She’s quite down now, but don’t disturb her," Ruby Sullivan told them.
Honey found it rather hard to chat with someone without disturbing them, so she looked to her brother.
Seth Sterling nodded, "I know, Mom." With that, he took his sister’s hand and headed to their aunt’s room.
Ruby Sullivan sighed, hoping the two little ones could cheer her up a bit.
She went to change her clothes, planning to personally make some porridge for Emma in the evening. However, since Nathaniel said there wouldn’t be a problem, there shouldn’t be one.
After dinner, Emma seemed in good spirits, taking a walk in the garden to aid digestion before going to bed.
After settling the two kids, Ruby Sullivan returned to her room and saw two missed calls from Nathaniel on her phone.
She quickly called back, "What’s up?"
"It’s about Emma. I feel it’s necessary to tell you the truth; I’m only thirty percent confident about her face."
Ruby Sullivan was stunned and took a long moment to respond, "But didn’t you say earlier..."
"It was to calm Emma’s nerves." Nathaniel sighed, "Cindy is very sensitive, and her face is too important for someone of her standing. I feared she couldn’t handle it."
"But..." Ruby Sullivan found it hard to continue.
Nathaniel is a doctor, and he knows the heavy responsibility he bears if things go wrong in the future. She was planning to leave The Sterling Family soon, and if they sought accountability, she wasn’t sure she could help.
"I don’t worry about other issues. What concerns me most is Cindy’s state of mind. She doesn’t have as open a mindset as she seems. I’m calling to ask you to let The Sterling Family know to give her more care during this time."
"Okay." Ruby Sullivan thought for a moment, "Thank you."
Nathaniel chuckled, "Consider us half friends."
Ruby Sullivan laughed too, "I know your temperament well enough, right? It takes more than a few half-friends to make you help like this. But no matter what, thank you."
Not long after the call ended, Ethan Sterling also returned to the room.
Ruby Sullivan shared Nathaniel’s words with him, "So, in the future, it could be..."
"If Nathaniel Truman can’t solve it, I believe no doctor in the country can. In this field, I trust his abilities," Ethan Sterling said with certainty. "The issue at the film set is also resolved. We should thank Sasha Shaw; she knows the director well and helped a lot."
The film was almost finished, and if the director was willing to use CG technology to fill in Emma’s remaining scenes, The Sterling Group would cover the additional costs as a sponsor.
"She’s a fan of Emma and would be happy to help, but I’ll still convey our thanks on your behalf."
"No need." Ethan cut in, "Sasha probably wouldn’t want to hear my thanks."
Ruby Sullivan raised an eyebrow, "Don’t treat my friends like the big bad wolf."
Ethan laughed, "I’m glad you have such friends."
Though it sounded like an elder speaking to a junior, Ruby Sullivan considered it a compliment and returned his smile.
"I’m going to cook a meal for Naomi Sinclair tomorrow. Do you have any requests? Maybe I can pull some strings one last time," she asked, tilting her head as they lay in bed.
"Yes." He took her hand, "Just don’t tire yourself out."
Ruby Sullivan’s heart skipped a beat, feeling foolish that such unexpected sweet talk could still excite her.
