Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Playing Both Sides

On Sunday, surprisingly enough, Ethan Sterling didn’t have any social engagements and stayed at home to spend time with his son and daughter.

Vivian received an invitation from her third uncle to visit a creativity exhibition. Before leaving, she deliberately took her younger son along, hoping to help ease the tension in the couple’s relationship.

She was well aware of the terrible things her older son had done, but since her daughter-in-law had not exposed them, she was willing to pretend to be ignorant. In matters of marriage, only those involved have a say, and she certainly didn’t want her younger son getting involved blindly.

But no one expected Rhonda Sullivan to pick such a day to visit. Mama Bennett felt quite awkward upon seeing the visitor and didn’t notify the garden immediately, "Young lady, is there something you need?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"This is my sister’s home. Can’t I come over even if there’s nothing?" Rhonda Sullivan arrogantly faced the electronic screen, feeling annoyed at Mama Bennett’s current arrogance, "Hurry up and let me in."

Mama Bennett hesitated for a while, "I’ll go ask the mister and the madam."

Mrs. Jewel had long been driven away. It was said that Ethan Sterling had given a hint; without him, such a low-level laborer couldn’t find work anywhere else and could only return to her hometown.

Although it wasn’t explicitly stated, the current staff at the Sterling Family knew about Mama Bennett’s relationship with the madam. With Vivian’s backing, Mama Bennett was effectively the housekeeper of the Sterling Family. Without her word, no one dared to open the door for Rhonda Sullivan.

To make Honey happy, Ethan Sterling set up a tent on the lawn for her, with a barbecue grill and a stove, just like an outdoor picnic.

Because Honey’s health could deteriorate at any moment, they used this method to safely fulfill her wish of having a picnic.

Mama Bennett watched the family’s harmonious scene from afar, not daring to approach, hesitating for a long time and considering going back to chase away Rhonda Sullivan directly.

But as she turned around, Ethan Sterling’s phone also rang.

He frowned and hung up immediately, continuing to help Honey grill eggplants.

Outside, Rhonda Sullivan was furious, furrowing her brows and intending to call again, when Mama Bennett already appeared at the door.

Fearing the situation might not be easy to resolve, she came out to speak to her face-to-face instead of using the intercom.

"Young lady, the mister says he doesn’t want to see you, you should leave."

Rhonda Sullivan snorted coldly, "Isn’t it Ruby Sullivan who’s stopping him from seeing me?"

Mama Bennett sighed, "Now that the mister has reconciled with Miss Ruby, you shouldn’t disturb their life. It’s better for everyone this way." She felt she’d said enough, turned around to leave but was grabbed by the arm by Rhonda Sullivan.

She knew she couldn’t lose her temper now, so she worked hard to control her emotions, "Go tell Ethan Sterling that if he doesn’t see me, I won’t leave. If he can bear to ignore the child in my belly, then don’t come out."

Upon hearing this, Mama Bennett then noticed Rhonda Sullivan was wearing flats, and her dress was particularly loose, vaguely revealing a little belly bump.

"You... are pregnant?" she asked in disbelief.

"That’s right. And it’s Ethan Sterling’s." Ruby Sullivan smiled triumphantly.

Mama Bennett frowned, realizing the seriousness of the matter, she had no choice but to go back inside, return to the garden, and specifically call Ethan Sterling aside, lowering her voice to ask his opinion.

"Whatever she pleases." Ethan Sterling responded irritably.

Given her orders, Mama Bennett breathed a sigh of relief internally. She knew the matter wouldn’t be resolved easily, but it was clear this time that the mister was standing on Miss Ruby’s side.

Being a very traditional person, she felt that men fooling around outside wasn’t a big deal, as long as they still acknowledged the woman at home.

At this moment, Ruby Sullivan’s phone also rang. After answering, she glanced at Mama Bennett and Ethan Sterling whispering nearby, quickly walked over, and stopped the departing Mama Bennett, "Let her in."

Mama Bennett awkwardly stopped in her tracks and looked at Ethan Sterling. She wasn’t defying Ruby Sullivan’s orders, but in this matter, she stood by Ethan Sterling.

Ethan Sterling frowned, "I don’t want the kids to know about this."

"It’s okay, I’ll just instruct Seth well, Honey is naïve, a little trickery won’t matter." Ruby Sullivan said and smiled, "Besides, they’ll know sooner or later, there’s no fear of this moment." She looked at Mama Bennett, "Go ahead."

Ethan Sterling had no choice but to nod.

The two of them told the children that a guest had arrived and that they needed to leave for thirty minutes, asking Mama Bennett to continue grilling. But Ruby Sullivan quietly explained the truth to Seth, "Your Aunt Sullivan is here, we need to talk in the living room, try to entertain Honey and keep her from coming in."

Seth nodded, "Got it, Mom."

"Good boy." Ruby Sullivan smiled and fondly ruffled his hair.

"Mom..." He was momentarily worried, "She won’t bully you, will she?"

After all, still a child, Ruby Sullivan laughed, "Don’t worry, your mom is quite capable."

"Yeah." He responded, although not entirely assured, he knew that until he grew up, what he could do was ensure his sister was well taken care of.

Rhonda Sullivan entered with Iris, smiling uncontrollably at the familiar environment.

This place was hers; she promised herself she would come back as the mistress one day!

She looked at Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan sitting side by side on the sofa, slightly frowned, walked over but didn’t sit down, had Iris hand over the gifts to Mama Bennett, "These are gifts for my aunt and little uncle, didn’t expect them not to be here." She smiled.

Ruby Sullivan couldn’t help but laugh after hearing this.

Rhonda Sullivan frowned, "What are you laughing at?"

Ruby Sullivan looked up, "Just thinking of Vivian’s disapproving face when hearing you call her aunt, couldn’t help laughing, sorry." She glanced at her like she was a guest, "Sit where you like."

Ethan Sterling, expressionless, stared ahead as if he’d become a wooden figure.

Rhonda Sullivan glanced at him and provoked, "I find your spot very comfortable, could I sit there?"

Ruby Sullivan maintained her smile, "Sister is so nostalgic, still likes competing with me, even for sitting spots."

Feeling her about to get up, Ethan Sterling pressed her hand, looked up at Rhonda Sullivan, "Speak quickly and leave."

Ruby Sullivan felt a little aggrieved momentarily but held it back immediately, "I’m... not leaving, I want to move into the Sterling Family, the Sullivan Family is so big, only Iris and I, I always sleep poorly, and recently the fetus frequently has issues, she alone can’t handle it, there’s more staff here, easier to get help."

She spoke as though it was only natural.

Ruby Sullivan burst out laughing, meeting Rhonda Sullivan’s surprised gaze, explaining, "Sis, when did you become so out of touch with reality? Still think it’s five years ago?"

Rhonda Sullivan also laughed, "It’s indeed not five years ago, but Ethan cares a lot about the child in my belly, for the child’s sake, how could he let anything happen to me?" She finished speaking and forcibly squeezed to Ethan Sterling’s other side, hooking his arm, "Right, Ethan?"

Ethan Sterling took a deep breath, the word "leave" was stuck in his mouth, considering Honey, he didn’t say it.

Rhonda Sullivan studied his expression and relented at the right time, "To stop me from causing trouble, Ethan can come accompany me on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays; and spend Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays here with the kids. Sister, do you think that works?"

She leaned out from beside Ethan Sterling’s arm, pretending to smile kindly.
