Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Unexpected Email

Ruby Sullivan was handling a few private emails in the car. Although she had already been developing her career back home, some friends in the fashion industry still contacted her via email.

She hadn’t expected to find an email from her mentor lying in her inbox. The content was simple, asking if she wanted to return to The Lawson Group.

She didn’t understand why her mentor would mention this in an email because ever since she returned, she hadn’t checked her email daily. For something that seemed to require a prompt response, her mentor should have called her.

Besides, her mentor must have been very angry about what happened last time. Someone as proud as Dr. L would hardly tolerate others speaking to him so rudely.

Since that phone call, she had actually been too afraid to call her mentor again, so when she saw the email from her mentor, she couldn’t help feeling puzzled.

Ruby Sullivan was absorbed in her own headaches and certainly didn’t notice that Seth Sterling, driving next to her, was also visibly unhappy.

By the time she got home, showered, and got into bed, it was almost 1 a.m. While blowing her hair, she was already yawning continuously, thinking only of going to sleep. When returning to the bedroom, she found Seth Sterling still drinking by the bay window.

She yawned, and out of concern for her housemate, casually asked, "Have you been having trouble sleeping again lately?" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Seth Sterling frowned, full of frustration, "No."

Ruby Sullivan’s eyelids were so heavy she could hardly keep them open, "Then go to bed early."

Seeing her indifferent attitude, Seth Sterling felt even more irritated. He finished the red wine in his glass in one gulp, got into bed, nudged her foot, and said, "Ruby Sullivan, are you still holding a grudge because I didn’t recognize you?"

Ruby Sullivan paused for a moment, "No." She meant it. At that time, she was terrified he would recognize her. It was only later, when she found she wasn’t that unrecognizable, that she admitted some truths.

Listening to her sleepy voice, Seth Sterling said nothing more. Just like the night before, he forcibly adjusted her sleep position to make her lie on her back and held her hand.

Even though they would eventually revert to their habitual postures after falling asleep, he at least wanted to be a bit closer to her while he was still conscious.

He knew there was an insurmountable chasm between him and Ruby Sullivan. He didn’t know if time could fill this gap, but he hoped that at least they could live in peace on opposite sides of the divide.

Seth Sterling sighed, furrowed his brows, and closed his eyes.

Perhaps his recent childish behavior stirred some pity in Ruby Sullivan. Without opening her eyes, she turned towards him, saying, "Be good, sleep, let’s hold paws." She lifted a leg and hooked it around his.

Although Ruby Sullivan’s leg felt a bit heavy, Seth Sterling enjoyed the feeling of holding paws and didn’t voice any objections.

In this way, Ruby Sullivan went through a busy week, finally ensuring she could leave work on time by Friday.

On the way back, her curiosity piqued again, "Mr. Sterling, can you tell me now why you wanted me to carve out a week’s vacation?"

Seth Sterling, indifferent while looking at news on his phone, replied, "Say something nice."

Ruby Sullivan was at a loss, thinking Seth Sterling’s preferences always depended on his mood. But how was she supposed to know what mood he was in or what he wanted to hear tonight?

"Mr. Sterling, handsome guy, Storm, brother, sister?" She tried various titles but couldn’t discern from Seth Sterling’s face which he preferred.

Seth Sterling turned his head, half his face darkened, looking at her, "It seems like you don’t really want to know."

Ruby Sullivan scrunched her nose, thinking she really wasn’t skilled at flattery. If he didn’t want to say, then so be it. She had been exhausted all week and wanted a good night’s sleep tonight.

Seth Sterling, seeing she truly didn’t pursue the matter, felt a bit helpless. Why was this girl so stubborn?

During dinner, Seth Sterling called the two kids over and seriously instructed them that he and their mom would be going on a honeymoon and wouldn’t return for about a week. During this time, they had to listen to Rachel Lawson, with Seth taking on the responsibility of caring for his sister.

Ruby Sullivan widened her eyes. Was all her hard work this week just for some trivial honeymoon?

Honey, hearing that it would be such a long time before seeing her mom, also felt quite reluctant and threw herself into Ruby Sullivan’s arms, acting coquettishly, "Can’t you take Honey and Seth along?"

Before Ruby Sullivan could speak, Seth Sterling pulled Honey over, "Honeymoons are between dad and mom. When Honey’s illness is cured, we’ll go on a trip together, alright?"

Still unhappy, Honey clung to Seth Sterling’s neck, continuing to pout, "Dad, Honey will miss you both if we don’t see you for so long."

Seth Sterling patted Honey’s back, suddenly feeling helpless. His daughter seemed a bit different than his son. Seth had never pouted for attention. If Seth spoke like this, Seth Sterling might reason with him, but with his sweet daughter, he was left only with giving Seth a knowing look.

Seth stepped forward, pulling Honey’s hand, and explained, "Honey, be good. I will be here to accompany you at home. Once you recover, wherever you want to go, I’ll take you."

Honey, with a pout, complained, "When will my illness get better? I’ve been sick since birth and haven’t recovered yet. I guess I’ll never get better."

Unsure of what Seth Sterling was planning, Ruby Sullivan didn’t dare to agree to Honey’s request, unsure if his idea of a honeymoon was the typical kind.

Wanting some time alone with Ruby Sullivan, Seth Sterling hardened his heart and didn’t relent, persuading Honey, "Dad promises to bring back the latest Barbie Princess and castle and a new set of Legos for you and your brother when we return, ok?"

Honey looked at her mom, knowing that no amount of affection would change the fact that she’d be left at home, finally nodded, "Okay then... Pinky swear." She unwillingly raised her little finger to make a pinky promise with her dad.

"Pinky swear." Seth Sterling also extended his little finger to make a pinky promise and seal it.

Unexpectedly for Seth Sterling, Ruby Sullivan didn’t mention the honeymoon at all by bedtime. He thought she’d be somewhat excited, but little did he know Ruby Sullivan was filled with worry.

In Ruby Sullivan’s eyes, Seth Sterling wouldn’t do anything without purpose, or anything unrelated to work.

So she planned to conserve her energy and be prepared to meet various business moguls at any time.

It wasn’t until the next day when she received the plane tickets that she realized Seth Sterling’s real target this trip was her dad.

Since Brandon Sullivan had been sent to Meridia for more professional treatment, there hadn’t been any good news due to the lack of family accompaniment. Nevertheless, given his current condition, the absence of news might be the best news.

She accompanied Seth Sterling on the flight to Novaniel, unable to lighten the expression on her face.
