Chapter 34: An unnecessary charade first thing in the morning

Lucy’s pretentious nature could never be rivaled when it came to covering up her black heart with a pinch of innocence and she had her face to aid her in it.

She could do anything to get what she wanted and not care what the consequences would lead for the other party. And she did it so excitedly too.

She was a maniac who loved to see others in pain. And one person she would do anything to see in pain was Valerie.

She wanted to see Valerie fall and always be blamed for causing harm to her, even if she didn’t. And now that it has come to this, where her position as the wife of Maximus Stewart was at stake, she was ready to do all sorts of things, to take Valerie out of the picture.

Valerie was always acting the bad guy when they both knew who the bad one amongst them was. They could play each other’s role when they were outside but when it was just the both of them... The tables would turn.

(Not that Valerie was an innocent and helpless girl but, you know what I mean?)

They would show their tire colors and their true nature.

Standing face to face in the kitchen was none other than Valerie and Lucy. Valerie held an indifferent expression on her face, not ready to entertain Lucy’s charade on this fine morning before having breakfast, while Lucy held a knife in her hand.

They were the only ones in the kitchen as Lucy had sent out the maids earlier on.

"If you’re not going to use the kitchen, just leave. You’re ruining the view." Valerie coldly said to her.

"I’d say the same thing to you, ’sister’." Lucy dared, leaning on the cabinet.

"You’re going to make me barf out the food I haven’t eaten yet. Just get out of my way." Valerie said, but Lucy was adamant.

She glanced at the knife in Lucy’s hand. What was she going to do now? Did she plan to stab her and then say she did it in an act of self-defense? Or...?

"You think you’re all that, just because the house is in your name." Lucy said, but Valerie shook her head and said,

"Of course not." She folded her arms. "I think I’m all that just because the house, the company, and the money you spend all have my name on it. How’s that?"

Lucy was vexed and she tightened her grip on the knife. She hated it. She hated that everything belonged to Valerie, regardless of the things she did.

Well, it would no longer be for her if she was stripped of everything and labeled a psychopath, would it?

"Haha, very funny." Lucy said, "But it won’t be funny for long once you’re the one on your knees."

Valerie thought she was not making sense and that she was using these petty words just to provoke her and get her to act but she was past that.

"I can’t deal with this. I think I’ll go out to have breakfast." Valerie said and turned her back to leave.

Lucy gritted her teeth. Even till now, she refused to take her seriously. She looked at the knife and made up her mind.

Once Valerie was at the door, she felt Lucy’s silence was a bit abnormal. On a normal note, she would’ve already been throwing words at her. So she turned around, only to see Lucy trying hard to cut herself with the knife.

’Wow, why am I not surprised?’ she thought and simply took out her phone to record her while pretending to answer a call.

The moment, Lucy raised her head, she saw Valerie on her phone and decided this was the perfect opportunity.

With her bleeding hand and bloody knife, she rushed to Valerie who immediately transferred her phone to her other hand for its safety, all the while recording what was going on.

"What are you doing? Why did you hurt yourself?" She asked, with no sign of remorse or care on her face.

"Look at you being so calm." Lucy said, getting sweaty and wincing in pain. She might’ve cut herself way too deep because of fear but this was good too. "It’s almost like you’ve seen blood a good number of times."

"Well, I am a woman and I bleed monthly, so this little, compared to what I see regularly... I don’t think I’ll be shocked. Besides, this ain’t your first time attempting such a thing but this time you succeeded. Bravo."

"What are you talking about?" Lucy asked her, a bit confused and Valerie leaned her head closer to her.

"Hm, you look like you want to bleed to death, seeing as you cut yourself so deep. Are you planning to commit suicide? If that’s the case, I can’t help you with that." She calmly said.

This sort of calmness ticked Lucy. Why could she not be bothered at all? But anyway, she was doing this to frame Valerie, so Valerie was the stupid one for staying with her for so long.

Now, watch as she lands her in an asylum.

"Ah, you’re the dumb one." She stated, her eyes turning crazy from the excitement. "I’ll ruin you with this." She suddenly shoved the knife into Valerie’s hand and rubbed the blood on her shirt before yelling out.

"Ahhh, help me. Murder." She fell to the ground and shifted to the edge as if trying to get away. "Someone help, she’s trying to kill me."

Her lips were curled up as she yelled with a voice filled with agony and pain. This was exciting. She couldn’t wait to see what would befall Valerie after this.

Valerie stared at the knife in her hand and then at her shirt which was now bloody.

’Dammit, I really liked this shirt.’

The helpers rushed in and on seeing the bloody floor as well as Lucy cowering in fear, they covered their mouths in fright.

Then, they slowly turned their gaze to Valerie who looked like the culprit as she was holding on to a bloody knife and facing the cowering lady.

"Mur-murder!" One of them yelled and went to get the master as well as his wife while the others went to help Lucy.

’I must say, she acts such a brilliant performance.’ She thought as she stopped recording and subtly tucked her phone in her pocket. ’And I guess it’s time to act my part as well.’ her lips suddenly curled up and she cackled. "What a sight." She exclaimed, shocking the people there.

They saw her as mad and one of them let out a mutter,

"She’s gone mad. She’s finally lost it."

Well, that was the normal reaction but Valerie was just waiting for her uncle to arrive and see his daughter’s wonderful performance.

Bernard rushed in and saw his daughter bleeding profusely.

"Daddy, help me." Lucy cried and Bernard turned with eyes filled with furry to Valerie who was still standing there and he hit her. He slapped her across the face and spat out,

"Demon. You’re mad." Valerie licked the blood that slowly trickled down her lip and she smiled. This got him even more angry and he called out. "Someone, bind this crazy girl and call the police. She must be detained at once."
