Chapter 87: The proposal - II

So here’s the thing. Evelyn had never bothered with having a little tour of the apartment to know where his office was or if there were any other rooms in the apartment.

Since it was a penthouse it was more than what she imagined it to be.

She knocked on the door of his office and heard the loud and clear masculine come in. Even if he was a thick door, Salvatore could be heard quite clearly.

She opened the door a little and popped her head inside, "You called for me, don?"

He nodded and beckoned her inside. Just as Evelyn walked inside, he pointed to the chair in front of him asking her to sit silently.

Once seated Evelyn looked at him expectantly.

Evelyn had expected the don to tell her what he wanted and be done with it. After all it was something that he did on a daily basis but that was not what happened.

Salvatore looked away from her and did not turn her way for at least two minutes because she was glancing at the clock in the room.

"Don, is everything alright?" She asked, making her voice slightly concerned, masking the fear she felt for her life.

Instead of answering her Salvatore stood up, "how about we go to the balcony? The kids are at Lucas’s house so it would be easy for us to talk." He did not wait for Evelyn and just walked out of the door while she sat in front of his desk.

Evelyn glanced back at his chair and licked her lips out of nervousness before walking out as well and closing the door behind her.

What could it be that made the don neverous? Was she being thrown out of their protection?

She followed him out to the balcony that was on the first floor of the house. Another thing she did not bother to notice and could have made use of before.

If the dining table view she felt overlooked the city, this one did it over and out. The view was utterly gorgeous.

"What is it?" She whispered softly as she stood next to him. Evelyn did not glance at him, rather kept her eyes turned to the front.

Salvatore eyed her. "You are young. You are relatively young when compared to me. Almost the difference of a decade. I understand that you have to live your life and marrying someone is not in the cards at the moment . . "

Evelyn’s expressions changed from confusion to horrifying in a moment when she realised where he might be going. Was this family getting her married to someone else?

"But would you consider dating someone?"

Marr— dating?!

Evelyn stared at him before repeating the words to confirm what he said. "You want me to date someone?"

Salvatore gave her a curt nod.

"Who?" She asked.

"Me."Salvatore applied without holding back, making Evelyn’s eyes pop out.

That was certainly something she was not expecting.

Evelyn struggles to find the words. "You. . .but you are the don?" How was she supposed to date the don?

"Because I want to get to know you when I’m not going to do that without your permission," he stepped closer, "either you ask for more time to think about it or you give me an answer right away. It is your choice and be truthful about it."

He was handsome but Evelyn knew that was not enough of a factor to be considered. Especially with the fact that he was the Don of one of the most large criminal organisations she knew saying no would not end well in her favour even if he had given her the option to say no.

She was trapped in between two places that would both end up in her demise. Dating him might make her live a little longer but if she said no she would be dying immediately.

Shit.

With his eyes on her constantly Evelyn could not help but feel her eyes getting blurry as her face reddened at the attention. She was going to cry and she was already breathing heavily.

If Salvatore had noticed the change in her behaviour, he was not making any efforts for her to feel at home.

"Uh . . More time?" She squeaked out.

Asking for more time seems to be the more reasonable option. It only gave her more time to think about what options she had. Because dating the don could actually end well in her favour but she did not have the hand of a father over her and she was going to take the man that she was in the protection of. So it might be easier for Salvatore to kill her and get away with it.

Sadly for Evelyn, she was not as practical as her stepmother was in life when it came to dating men with power.

"More time," Salvatore said but it seemed like he was doing it to himself more, "alright then, Evelyn. How does a week sound?"

A week was more than what she imagined he would give her. "More than enough, Don. Thank you."

She gave him a small bow before turning around and leaving the balcony. Evergreen all but ran to her room and closed the door shut before leaning against a ton sliding down. She pulled her into her hands as she inhaled and exhaled.

Aldo’s father was the one who had sent the proposal for their marriage but it was her father who had refused. Carlo Bianchi, her father knew more than she ever did and he had diplomatically refused Mr mancini.

He had refused Mr Mancini in such a way that the business relations continued and none of them ever discussed it again. Unfortunately that was something Evelyn could not do first option either had learnt the scale nor possessed naturally.

If she said yes then she would have to stick to it and if she said no she would have to walk away. It was all black and white for her. No shade of grey meant danger.
