Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 88: The threats - I
America was different from Italy and there was no second thought about that. Angelo had his house that was being regularly cleaned in New York where he was currently staying with Alexis.
Stepping into the house brought back many memories. Over the years, the course of time that they had been married, for they had come to America many times and every time it was like a walk down the memory lane.
Each and every memory that they had once made, no matter how recent or old, was relieved again.
The darkness has started to subside inside and this house had been the beginning of it all.
"You are very deep in thought," Alexis entered the room and sat beside him on the couch making the cushions bounce which irritated him. "You do know that you’re being lost in your thoughts is never good."
"For everyone else. Not me." Angelo stated the facts to her. He was still slightly irritated by the way she is at. Even in her fifties Alexis could be a little childish which irritated him.
He wanted to be a father but he did not want to be a father to a grown as woman.
Alexis nodded but then sighed. " How long do we have to be here? I thought that there were many Gallas by the way you said it but we have just attended it by far."
The exhaustion was visible on her face. Even though Alexis could hold onto her own weight no matter how much was thrown her way she could not hide their exhaustion she felt.
Angelo took her hand in his. "I just wanted to spend time with you. Is it so bad?"
With a huff she replied, "almost 30 years into this marriage and you want me to believe that?" She shook her head. "You know I can take the harsh truth, Angelo."
She could and he had no doubt about that. Over 30 years that they had spent together Alexis had built up an appetite for digesting the truth as it was. But that did not come without a fight. Even if she was used to his way she still fought tooth and nail to challenge him.
The sex after was equally great. So, he welcomed it.
"I wanted to oversee everything." He provided an explanation. "We will be going to Chicago next." This was very little inside his plans but also something that he had to do at the end of the day. Salvatore could not handle everything and Angelo could not sit idle. So it was perfect for both them.
Her forehead had creased a little at his words. "Why? You don’t think Vincenzo is doing it right?" Vincenzo was still in America and majority of his time was spent here. He overlooked the states.
Angelo chuckled. If he did, Vincenzo wouldn’t be alive. "I am the boss, Alexis. I have to oversee everything."
Being the boss meant he had to know what was going on in his organisation no matter who was dealing with the area. If it was his blood brother for his first cousin it does not matter to Angelo as the don. We have to keep an eye on everyone and everything and that was something he could never compromise on.
"Why you then?" Her curiosity knew no bounds. "Why can’t Salvatore or Dante do it?"
Because to her understanding it was obvious that those two were in the lead now and Angelo and his brothers were retired.
Angelo did give her nod, telling her that she was right. "Nonetheless there is no harm to take some burden off the shoulders of my son."
"Or try to get in the lead role again." Alexis deadpanned. "I might not know what goes inside you but I know the most probable thoughts you have."
That made him chuckle. Maybe, he was readable now too. But she was more.
Alexis had started to catch on to his games but what was fun for him was how long he could carry it every time without her noticing it.
Often, she could tell the games that he had been playing from the very start. Otherwise Alexis could go on without noticing it till the very end.
"What about you, Alexis?" He leaned forward a little. "How are you feeling nowadays?"
Her eyebrows shot up at the sudden question and the change of direction of the conversation. "Um . .fine?"
He nodded but looked doubtful, "Reall—" his phone vibrated interrupting him. Angelo gave her an apologetic look.
He stood up from the couch that they were sitting on and walked outside to the balcony before he answered the call and put the phone next to his ear. "Yes?"
His eyes twitched. This was not something he wanted to hear.
As the person went on and on about what had happened Angelo’s grip tightened over the phone. He felt the familiar need of letting out his anger build up inside him. It was hard to control the darkness and this only made it harder than before. Much, much harder.
He wanted to strangle someone’s throat but he knew he had to refrain.
Having heard enough, he hung up the call without informing the other person on the line. This was enough for him to hear. Never mind for him to hear the repeated version again from anyone again, he made sure to text the person to tell it to know soul, much less a breathing person.
The next person he was going to dial was his brother but Silvano had already called him, making him pickup the call once again. "You heard?"
"I did." Silvano confirmed. "Not something I would preferably go for."
Angelo chuckled. This thing was nothing but an insult to his name. He could not believe that his son let it happen and the rectification had to be done by his father obviously.
"Don’t you worry about it," Angelo said on the phone, "I will take care of it."
