Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 61: Hugs and breakfast - II
Giovanni had driven her to a small Bakery which Evelyn had immediately fallen in love with. It was small, cosy yet beautiful and in other words just perfect.
"Where did you find a place like this?" Evelyn could not help but ask as she looked around the small Bakery before they found a place to sit.
Gio smiled. "I did not. It was mum who found a place like this. She often brings pastries from here and you should definitely try them."
Evelyn did not really pay attention since she was busy admiring the goods displayed. If possible she wanted to have one of everything.
"I’ll have Bomboloni, Sfogliatella and cannoli!" She licked her lips. "explain a long time since I am going to eat outside so I need a lot of those, Gio." She told him that in a serious voice as if kidding about it would grant them the heaviest penalty.
"Alright then stay here," Gio said standing up, "I will be back in no time." She gave him a nod as She watched him stand up and leave to the counter.
Evelyn glanced at her phone to look at the time. Barely 10 minutes had passed which meant that this Bakery was much closer to the university than she had first thought.
That was good for her because that meant that she could eat her full without wearing to go back to University and attend her class on time.
"Here I am," he placed two cups of steaming coffee in front of them, "Have a sip." And she did.
Evelyn moaned at the taste. This was really good.
Giovanni’s watched her we’re thinking ice that Evelyn now noticed. "What’s up with you? Why are you staring at me like that?"
He shook his head. "Nothing, I saw you the day before you notice me and that time you just looked so down and sad and when I look at you now you look happy."
Did she?
She did not really know how happy she was beautiful. Considering the fact that Evelyn just lost her father not even months before it didn’t sit well with her that she was being happy and everyone can notice that.
"How happy do I look?" The words slip out of her mouth before she realised but once she had then show Evelyn just looked at him for an answer.
Giovanni straightened up a little bit, realising what she was talking about he sobered up. "I know that your only family member passed away Evelyn but that does not mean that you do not get to be happy."
She give an unwanted bitter chuckle at that. Did she know where does bitterness came from? No, she had no idea.
She huffed and leaned back into the chair. "I don’t get it. It’s like everything is slowly shifting back to normal but I feel the guilt of not missing him as much as I think I should."
"You do miss him Evelyn." Giovanni replied quickly, "but the only problem for us is that our parents were rarely available for us which is why we don’t really see their absence. Had they been there for our day to day events we would have done that more." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
That was true and she agreed on that right away. Evelyn herself felt what he said because her father had not been there for every events in her life. In fact, she was pulled from many for safety reasons.
Evelyn scoffed. She did miss him and she would continue to miss him for the rest of her life but maybe in those special events where he had actually been there.
"Maybe that’s true," She wondered out loud. "What made you think of that?"
Gio had a soft expression on his face earlier but now that turned to grim. "My father had heart attack last year and I did not feel much affected by it. Of course, there was the shock the panic inside me but then it was just any other day in my life."
Evelyn gasped. "What? He did? Your family does have a history of having weak hearts."
He nodded. "Yes, my cousin Antonio’s father passed away former heart attack. You must have heard of him he is Bella Rosa’s husband."
Indeed she had heard of him. She had even seen him and now Evelyn could find the resemblances amongst the first cousins.
"He is an assassin, no?" Evelyn asked him.
Giovanni I was about to answer but just as he did their food was on the counter which made him get up and go get it.
Evelyn notice as he placed the food on the table that Giovanni had just ordered two of each what she had ordered.
She picked up one of everything and placed it on her played before digging in. If the coffee tasted good this was a completely whole other deal.
"I can tell this is authentic." She said placing her palm in front of her mouth so that he won’t see her eating.
"I know," Giovanni replied with a mouthful of food inside blessing her with the view. "I have been eating this almost every day since my mother brought it home for the first time."
Of course he had been. It was to delicious to be let go of this easily.
Jokes along with slight jabs continued. It almost felt like they had never been separated. He had been a constant friend in her life and they had spent a lot of time together which only made evident forget what happened day before yesterday night.
"Um Evelyn?" Giovanni looked at something behind her but Evelyn did not bother to turn around and see. "What is your driver doing here?"
Julian? Evelyn frowned instantly. That was not possible. His words made her turn around to actually see Julian standing at the entrance with his eyes trained on her.
Julian gave her a nod before coming into her direction with his phone held out. "This is for you, madam." He said and then his eyes went to the man sitting with her, "however, you should attend it outside."
