Chapter 62: Hugs and breakfast - III

"Who is it?" Evelyn asked before taking the phone. She did not even take it from him, rather just give it a glance.

"The Don, Ma’am."

That made her pickup the phone and excuse her presence from Giovanni and move out of the Bakery to have some privacy.

"Don?" Evelyn softly spoke into the phone with great hesitation once she stepped out of the Bakery.

"Evelyn," she heard his voice and it made her heart stop. She could not even tell if he was angry or not. "Care you tell me what your age is?’

"I am going to be 20 in a month’s time, Don."

" Good that you are at least aware of that," he snapped, making her jump, "then go and have a look at your phone and tell me what you see."

Her hand on Instinct patted her both pockets before she realised that she had left her phone inside. "Hold on," she whispered into the phone Before moving inside the Bakery and rubbing her phone and then moving outside again.

She clicked on the lock screen before her eyes widened at what she saw. There were more than twenty missed calls from 3 different numbers and what she could see was the three missed calls that she had missed from the Don.

"You called me. . ."

"I did." He replied in a voice as calm as ever.

She gulped, "My phone was really on silent mode, don. Otherwise I swear to God I would have picked up no matter what." Her hands gripping the phones both her and what Julian had given her were shaking very badly. At this moment Evelyn could actually feel her heartbeat in her throat.

"I don’t care if your phone was on silent or not. What you were supposed to do was tell your Fucking driver where you went and who the fuck you went with." He said making her almost try with the lack of emotions he had in his voice.

Evelyn felt completely blindsided by the fact that he was not showing her any anger. It only made her feel that there would be a storm coming her way and this was just the calm before it.

"I don’t care where your phone is, I don’t care if you have a phone. I have Julian with you for a bloody reason and you follow the reason." He snapped at her, finally giving her an account of what he felt making her flinch.

"How could you not understand the fact that you are a target for everyone? First you leave the university without informing me, without informing Marcello and even one of your guards then you keep your phone on silent. What do you think happened?!"

Evelyn sucked in her lips not really giving him a reply and controlling the crying bubbling inside.

This was the epitome of having a situation escalate to disaster.

"It was a mistake, Don." The only thing Evelyn could think of doing right now was apologizing. "I swear to God, it will never be repeated again, Don."

To be honest, Evelyn understood where his concerns came from. All someone had to do was take one car, one person throwing her inside the vehicle and then she would be gone forever if no one demanded for ransom.

She could be sold in the prosecution as a joke on her father’s organisation and on the family whose protection given to her or she could be killed with one bullet to the head.

Evelyn really understood where Salvatore was coming from. But this has truly been an honest mistake. Should not even realise that she had her phone on silent mode and she had completely forgotten about Julian.

"I don’t want your apologies, so keep them with you." Salvatore went back to his emotionless voice. "If it had been my father then you would have been given private tuitions instead of going outside. Do you know that?"

"I do." She answered instantly without missing a beat. Evelyn knew That was something Angelo would have done because that was something that her father would have done as well in this situation.

"I don’t want to do that with you. I know your history. The most of your childhood was spent inside the house with teachers coming and homeschooling you which is why I am giving you one more chance and Evelyn if you mess it up. . ."

The threat of warning whatever she wanted to call it given to her by Salvatore was left hanging in the air but it need not be completed because Evelyn completely understood what he was going to say.

"I understand. It really won’t be repeated." She recited the answer once again. This was something that she had done with her father and somehow it seemed to work for both of them.

"However, I’m not going to let this go unpunished." She opened her mouth and was horrified. Of course he wasn’t going to let it go and how did she ever think that he would?

"What are you. ." She gulped. What was she supposed to say here? Practically ask for the punishment?

"Since you completely forgot about telling Julian about your little outing with your friend who had completely forgotten you, I am going to order Julian to be with you twenty four seven and that means even inside the classrooms."

Evelyn gasped. "Don?!" Even her father had never done something so terrifying that would have a barrister in the eyes of everyone.

"You have two options as a punishment Evelyn; either you sit at home and let the teachers teach you or you have the opportunity to go out but have a guard follow you." He presented her with the options very coolly as if it was in her hand to decide and she had nothing to lose. "Tell me what you want and then hand over the phone to Julian. I shall convey the message of you being brought home or for him to follow you everywhere."

Evelyn held in the sniff and forced out of her throat, "He can follow me."
