Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 59: His office - II
"Don," she nodded her head. "I did not know that you had called me." The moment she had entered the room Evelyn did not, at any cost, expect the room to be owned by Salvatore, even the building. She had not even remotely thought about that.
Now the man was sitting in front of or behind a desk very comfortably carrying on what he was doing before they entered.
Salvatore did not bother to glance at her, rather continued to read what was in front of him. "And how would you, since you were busy avoiding me."
Avoiding the don? Evelyn giggled nervously. Watching the world was he talking about? Evelyn was never going to be capable of avoiding the don. How funny of him to think so.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about, Sir." She whispered nervously to him while clutching her book bag. So it must have been Salvatore to order Julian to bring her to his office.
"You don’t?" Salvatore looked up from his work and stared at Evelyn with the raised eyebrow. "Are you sure about that?" The expression that he gave Evelyn was far from believing what she said.
"Yes, sir." Evelyn answered without missing a beat.
Salvatore abandoned his work and crossed his arms in front of his chest before leaning back on the chair. "I guess University must be tough then. You have been leaving the house much earlier than usual."
She gave him a silent nod. Evelyn knew that if she opened her mouth and said something he would definitely catch her lie.
"Ah," he nodded and pointed to the chair in front of him. That was a command for her to sit and she did as told.
If anything, standing made her feel more vulnerable than before. Sitting at least hid her knees bouncing up and down rapidly.
"So," he started to talk once she sat down, " how hard is the University? I never had to leave earlier than necessary. Would you like me to talk to the dean if you are being stressed more than usual?"
Evelyn controlled the movement of her eyes that were on the verge of widening at what he said. He was going to talk to the dean about it? If Salvatore questioned the Dean and then the dean would pull up everything that everyone had been doing in college and that would mean that he would have pulled up the evidence that purposely missed her first lectures to avoid him.
Shit.
She shook her head. "I do not think that is needed. I think some pressure is required in the university. I have absolutely no problems going before the period starts and. . . having to do s-some . . . research." What in the world was she talking about? No projects at begin for her to try any kind of research.
He cocked a brow. "Research?"
Evelyn nodded her head. Research was necessary in her field.
"Now that is funny because I had Julian pull up your university schedule." He leaned forward and placed his folded arms on the table.
Evelyn stiffened. He knew what he was doing.
Salvatore continued, "not only did I have Julian do that but Julian has also been noticing that you sit in the canteen process rather than attending your lectures. Now if it was my brother I would have not had any mind but it is you," his stare hardened into a glare, "care to explain to me what this is all about? Because trust me I do not want to deal with this kind of behaviour from a grown up and my father is not going to tolerate it even a bit."
" Uh. ."Evelyn practically looked around her mind to search for what words she had to say. He could not just say it and wear it out in front of him that she was trying to avoid him and that she was actually compromising her education that they were paying for.
"Um . ." She gulped. Evelyn had not thought this far. She had no idea what to say.
"Say it!" He snapped at her, making her jump in horror, not expecting him to behave like that. "I don’t want this kind of bullshit going around. You are not a kid nor am I, so behave like fucking adult. Tell me why the hell are you missing your classes."
" I don’t really like the first class." She blurted out.
Salvatore looked slightly surprised at what reason she gave him. "What?"
She nodded. She had no idea of what to say next but continued what had been blurted out. "I don’t really understand the first class. Which is why I usually go to the library and study about the subject." Evelyn started to fidget nervously.
Salvatore did not look away from her nor did he lean back into the chair. It was like he was waiting for her to sleep and how he would catch on to it. It was like a shark waiting to get a whiff of the blood in the sea.
She gulped again. Not only that there was a huge chance that Evelyn had stopped breathing. She did not want to give him any signs of her lying.
He nodded slightly before moving back. "You do not understand anything in the first lecture?"
Evelyn shook her head.
"What do you think of the business environment? I am trying to open up a new restaurant in Canada. Do you want to tell me something about it?"
"Oh," Evelyn gave it with thought before answering him, "I think that you should set up an r&d department to research what is going on in Canada. People might have different trends as compared to here."
" Really?" Salvatore mocked as his eyes narrowed at her. "And you do not know what the business environment is?"
Evelyn shook her head hurriedly. "But I never answered about the business environment!"
"You did not need to Evelyn," he chuckled, " I am not stupid to ask you direct question."
He had her, didn’t he?
