Chapter 52: A Disco night - III

No one made it inside and Evelyn felt like she was already drunk. How long was the fate line supposed to be? She checked the time on her watch again. It had been an hour and forty-five minutes more.

She huffed before pulling out her phone from her bag and dialling the number of Giovanni. The moment he picked up she yelled on the phone, "Where are you?!" "The line was too long for us to get in so we decided to go to another club. Where are you?" Evelyn’s mood soured. Bitterness ran Deep and she did not know how to react in this situation. It was like the world around her stilled and the music playing through the speakers seemed so far away. "Hold on," she said before taking the phone off her ear and checking her messages, her WhatsApp and then her phone calls. So no one had texted her or called her to inform that they had changed their destination. She placed the phone back on her ear and said, "nowhere. Bye." She said in a rather clipped tone and then hung up. She placed the phone back in her purse before looking at the bartender in order to order three shots of tequila. Just as she drank one, she closed her eyes and placed her palms on the two cups filled with the drink. Even though her eyes were closed she did not want anyone to spike them. What is really supposed to happen tonight? How could this get that she was already inside and did not even bother to drop a text to her? Even though they were mainly acquaintances in this life because of the businesses that their families were in, Evelyn still considered them to be good friends and they literally discarded her, left her alone inside and even Giovanni did that. Evelyn felt the ugly and bitter tears come to her eyes. Why did it always happen to her? How could they just forget that she existed and she had come along with them? Evelyn gulped the other two in a hurry and got off the bar stool and almost left before she remembered to pay the bill on the tab. She handed her call to the bartender who swiped it and gave her the card back after she had placed the passcode inside the machine. She felt stupid and immature. It was like highschool all over again when none of them remember her in their plans. Tino waited for her outside just as she had been told by him and on her side he opened her door even without her saying a word. It fell so bad and it hurt. She got out of the car when the penthouse building arrived and boarded the left without saying goodbye to Tino this time. Politeness had left the building because she had been inserted again. She huffed as she feeded in the code. This does not feel good. The moment she walked inside she saw Salvatore sitting on the dining chair which made her steps slowly come to a stop as he who was smoking a cigar looked at her. The smoke around him gave the air around him a cloud making it feel like the man itself was on one and that was the very reality of the world. "What?" She mumbled defensively. "You’re early," he said as he looked at his watch. "You have not been gone for even two hours Evelyn." She gulped. What was it to him? Why did he want to know anything in her life? Evelyn shrugged in front of him having no definite answer. "I think I’m going to go to bed." She said as she turned to walk to the stairs. "Sit with me," Salvatore’s baritone voice made her stop. "I think you can spare some time." She huffed slightly. Drunk Evelyn was slightly bold Evelyn because she’s got the high that usually never did. Drunk as well and had revolted against her father a lot of time and even made fun of his balding hair. Yet the outline of a gun on his waist made her realise that she was talking to someone who would not blink before pulling the trigger on her unlike her father who would hold himself back. She sat on the chair where she usually did. She stared at the view outside and kept quiet. "You told me you might arrive in the early hours of the morning and it’s not even midnight yet." Salvatore drew out. "Do you want to tell me?" Evelyn’s eyes moved to him and for the first time they did not hold any emotions. No respect, no fear, nothing. "Why should I tell you anything?" She muttered. "How is it that you are interested in the life of a university girl?" Salvatore chuckled and that was probably the first time she had him do that. Even if that small laughter was out of happiness it seemed to be dark when it came from him. " I had a university girl. I had enough drama with my sister. if you want to test me I am sure I’ll pass." Evelyn removed her eyes from him and looked at the glass windows overlooking the world once more. The apartment was so silent and so was the world outside. It seemed as if no one was awake to night yet the light coming from outside only contradicted her. "I. . " She gulped as the tears once again came up, "I entered the restaurant before anyone and I waited there for almost two hours before I called them only to know that they had changed the destination." Salvatore chuckled, "you told me that they were associates. I think you should change them." Evelyn looked at him bitterly before sniffing. "Do you really want to say that to me? Especially when I am crying?" "You don’t have to cry." Said he. "You could accept the reality and move on without any feeling of bitterness for it." "Why? What do you know?" She gave a bitter chuckle. Keep?" She gave a bitter chuckle. Keep calm and write something...
