Chapter 53: Heart to heart with the Don - I

"Everything." He answered holding her gaze with his own.

A shiver went down her spine when her eyes met his after he said the word. The word seemed to have every truth of the world to it. Of course Salvatore D’alessandro knew everything. He probably knew what was going around seven seas away from here too.

"I am no therapist Evelyn. However I am here to lend an ear if you want because I have done it a lot of times for my sister." He offered after he blew the smoke from his nose. His nostrils played as he did so but even that seemed to be hot to her.

She shook her head nevertheless. "I don’t want to. I want to feel bad about it as much as I can and then forget about it."

Salvatore chuckled whilst he shook his head and it seemed like he was experiencing it all over again.

"What?" Evelyn murmured as if she was in a trance. "You look like you are amused from this conversation."

"I am." He revealed it with a smile and she stared at it in wonder. "It amuses me and amazes me at the same time how everyone thinks the same thing, yet the same conclusions are drawn out."

Evelyn did not understand. "Does this have to do something with your experience with Bella Rosa?"

He nodded and chuckled. "From those experiences I would rather give you the idea to stand up for yourself and call the guys. Was it not him who invited you? What are you afraid of Evelyn? Call him out." He tilted his head.

She felt her cheeks redden at that. "I have learnt my lesson. I don’t need to call anyone for it." She muttered under her breath.

Salvatore shook his head while he stared at her making it more daunting. "It is not your lesson to learn. Whoever invited you should know better than to leave you alone."

Evelyn licked her lips before taking her eyes away from him. It felt so overwhelming to do that. What would she say when she called him?

"That," he pointed to her with the hand that held his cigar, "is something that you will haven’t said when you call him."

Evelyn stared at the building in front of them. How many lights were on and some of them flickered while some of them were switched off for the night. She did not want to be left alone especially when this was not her Idea and when she was really invited by her friend.

So maybe there was nothing to lose about it.

Evelyn took out her phone but her finger hovered over the number.

"Come here," he said and beckoned her close with his two fingers. Not thinking much of it, Evelyn stood up from her chair and stood right beside him.

He patted on the table and she saw that. She huffed and jumped on the table having her but land on top of it before wiggling a little backwards to be comfortable.

Salvatore continued to look at her as he leaned back on the chair. "You do know that you are under the protection of my father? Which means if someone insults you, they insult us." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

It took a few seconds for her to understand the words for her drunk self but when she did she gasped. If someone insulted them, they might as well go for war because no one insulted one of the most feared criminal organisation leaders.

"Don, I hope you know the meaning of what you are saying. . ." The implications are too severe.

The corner of his lip twisted up. "I do." He nodded to her twice. "which is why I think you should decide who is going to talk to that man. You or me? Because if my father or I do it, I don’t think it would be good for any of them."

If the Don or the former Don of the organisation did it her friends were going to get it from their parents. In fact it was going to be taken as a personal insult then, which Evelyn did not want.

Evelyn gulped. "I’ll do it." She said without missing a beat. She picked up the phone that she had left lying in front of a chair and dialled the number before moving the phone to her ear.

"Hello?" Giovanni yelled over the sound of music telling her that they were still out partying.

Evelyn frowned. Did you have no concern about someone he had invited over? Well he had no concern over that then she was not going to waste her breath.

"Next time, if you invite me, remember to tell me if you’re changing the destination. I would like to be informed rather than waiting there for an hour and a half." She snapped uncharacteristically of her.

"wait," the sound of the music now seems to be muffled as if Giovanni he was moving away from the sounds, "Wher—"

"Or better yet do not invite me at all!" She spat before hanging up at him. Evelyn could not believe that she had friends like this!

She looked down at her lap with blurry eyes as tears clouded her vision. She seemed too much. How were they all still out there?

She felt Salvatore move but only looked up when she found herself being brought to a warm surface.

He was hugging her, she realised.

Instead of pulling away Evelyn turned her head to the side and pressed her cheek to his chest allowing herself to receive all the warmth and comfort she could from him.

"Thank you," she whispered, closing her eyes and enjoying the warmth. Maybe she did need to call him out on this more than just moving on after crying.

"I know," he said, making her chuckle.

Salvatore did not move for a while and Evelyn loved the feeling of having him close. The last thing she remembered was a soft touch over her head and whispered of words that she did not recognise before slipping away to sleep.
