Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 205: The charity event - III
There was something that she considered seriously and it was the fact that Alexis was a mother to her child first and then a help to someone she knows through her child.
Why would you choose to help someone over Salvatore?
Evelyn gave her a quick and easy smile before patting Alexis’s hand. "Nothing..it’s just," she looked away when she felt the familiar feeling of tears building up in her eyes.
"The miscarriage really messed up things between us and then I got sick—"
"Now that cannot possibly be true," Alexis intervened and her expression hardened from the gentle one that she had previously had on her face.
"I know for a fact that you left the facility without letting anyone know. If my son had been there Nadine would have informed me, hell even the watch men would have told me. But since they did not, so clearly you ran away from the facility and I did not meet you in the past two years." Alexis raised her finger while stating the facts pointedly that happened over the past two years.
So in the two years they had told everyone that she had been sick, and Alexis was not told everything for sure which is why she had probably taken her to this room.
If she had Alexis in her corner—
But would it really matter? Because at the end of the day, Alexis did not have much power when it came to this organisation. Even if she did, she would have no idea how to exercise it and in the end it would be of no advantage to Evelyn.
There had been one time where she would never have to think about advantages while making friends, and now all she could think about was what were the benefits of a certain relationship.
"I.." Evelyn felt torn but decided to give it a go. "I did run away and arabella is adopted." She shrugged lightly. "And he found me after two years."
Alexis raised eyebrows before nodding slowly really taken aback by what she had been told. She nodded again trying to understand as Evelyn could feel with the wheels working in her mind.
"You.." Alexis leaned in, "you ran away and head for 2 years?"
This might be the right time to tell her that her son was aware of her presence in various states in the US before she is shifted continents.
"I would say yes," she winced lightly, "but Salvatore told me and.. he more like recited the names of the places that I had stayed in."
"Ahh," Alexis chuckled, "like father like son."
Evelyn waved it away. "I want to thank you for your help anyway. That’s a good initiative that you have undertaken."
Alexis stared at her face before a lazy smile came to her face and she nodded. "I am happy that someone understands that."
"It’s great, actually." Evelyn could not let go of it. "I cannot believe that you actually has clinics that help women in such a way."
This woman might not be aware of the power that she had inside the organisation but she was reaping the benefits from it in a better way than anyone could have ever think of doing.
"I can’t get away from the predicament that I am in. But I have also kind of accepted where I am.." Alexis sighed before moving away and to the sink. "I just thought of helping those that still have the chance of getting away."
She felt her eyes lower at that. How many women were there in the organisation that was civilian or not, but still chosen to accept the situation that they were in?
Simply because there was no one that could help them.
Some knew what they were getting into and their willingly choosing this life but some, some would rather not live life at all.
But it was commendable to what she was doing. Not many have the strength to do something so remarkable and without any selfish cause.
"For how long have you had it?" Evelyn staed at Alexis’s back. The system followed in the clinic looked like they all knew what they were doing. They must be doing it for a long time at least to be that efficient.
Alexis hummed, thinking over it. "It was in the work for five years, and twenty more so it would be twenty five now."
Wow, Evelyn was impressed. That was a long time for her to be doing this.
"Come on," Alexis wiped her hands clean. "Redo your lipstick, by the way."
Evelyn’s eyes flickered over to the mirror before she reached over and opened her purse. She carefully reapplied, making sure that she did not make a fool of herself.
The moment she closed to the lipstick and throw it back into the purse, Alexis nodded at her as they were both now ready to go.
Exiting the premises, they walked hand-in-hand with their arms linked together just as their destinies were.
They found Angelo and Salvatore standing together conversing with Michelle, the latter nodded his head and them telling the two bosses that their wives were here.
Both of them shifted and allowed them to step into the circle.
"Michelle," Alexis nodded his way with her ever-same gentle smile. "How have you been?"
To Evelyn’s surprise, he nodded back. "I am well, Mrs Alessandro. How are you? I can provide assistance with?"
Alexis chuckled, waved him off with her flick of her wrist. "I am fine, Michelle. And no, but thank you for asking."
His hand found its way on her waist again. The possessive action did not went past her. He was making his territory, especially when it had been awhile since people have seen her.
If no one was seen for a while, it was assumed that they had been discarded or were going to be done with soon.
"It’s time." Michelle tipped his head before leaving the couples alone and Evelyn’s eyes trailed behind him.
"Come." Her husband who is bad as he guided her into another room where they were circulated tables facing a stage.
This was were announcement was going to be along with dinner for the night.
Taking their seats at one table, the one where the senior couple also sat, Evelyn anxiously waited for the emcee to arrive.
A heavy hand found itself on her thigh, squeezing it lightly enjoying the tension to leave her body and focus on the hand.
It went up and her breath hitched making her turn to face him with wide eyes.
With questionable eyes that she was sending him, he ignored it and continued his assualt that she very much enjoyed even though it was very public.
As his hands little closer she straightened her self and cleared her throat aggressively.
"Hey, here," Alexis passed on a glass of water that Evelyn clung onto.
"Are you sure you are alright?" Alexis’s frown of worry made Angleo look at them.
At first he appeared to look at his wife before his eyes trailed over Evelyn and then at Salvatore.
"Leave them," he tutted under his breath before grabbing his wife’s chain and angling it away from the young couple.
He understood. Angelo obviously understood what was going on which is why he had even made his wife look away from the young couple before ignoring them completely.
"Stop," she harshly whispered in the soft chatter that went around the dining room.
Evelyn gripped his hand trying to stop it but the man did not care. He was too powerful for her dainty hand and little strength.
"Tsk," he clicked his tongue in irritation before giving a side eye. "he saved you."
What? Wh—
"Ladies and gentlemen," A cheerful voice rang out silencing everyone including Evelyn.
"With all..."
Evelyn tuned him out of the first two words. Instead she looked around the room trying to find her, who she knew she could figure out even from the long distance.
He patted her thigh and wordlessly she sat back.
Evelyn had been too obvious and he was reminded her of that.
Still she looked around the room, more discreetly than before. Her eyes moved to every nook and corner of the room any children.
Feeling eyes on her left side of the face, she looked around and found Angelo staring at her before looking away, not at all flicking his eyes the momen he got caught.
He wanted her to know that she whatever she was doing was seen by him.
"After the dinner, I would like for you all to meet the children in these orphanages who were the contribution made by you today, will embark on a journey to bright futures!"
His last words send an uproar in the crowd and Evelyn clapped along with them. No one really care what happened it with orphans, yes the billionaires and millionaires that at least on the outside everyone looked like they cared about it.
Dinner, she huffed. She had to get through dinner.
