Chapter 206: A charity event - IV

The dessert was a long affair and just to pass time, she ate everything.

"Would like this?" Alexis pointed to the desert on her plate. "Red velvet pastry."

Just to pass the time she nodded even though her stomach screamed full in bright red neon lights.

"Thank you," she smiled and took it from her.

She ate as slowly as possible, prolonging it so that she could spend her time eating it and not worrying about when she was going to meet AraBella.

Once again, she could feel the eyes on her face making her look into the same direction as she had done once before.

It was Angelo.

"Are you pregnant?" He muttered but she caught them.

She gasped and stared at her with the baffled expression on her face.

"Angelo!" Alexis harshly whispered his name. "Are you serious?"

Angelo pointed at the plate of a daughter in law, "did you see her eating? Either she has worked in appetite in the past two years or she is pregnant because I do not remember eating like this when she lived with us."

That might might be slightly true because in the past two years she had not had the luxury of eating whatever she wanted and in whatever quantity she could order.

Another fact was that, getting distracted her from Arabella.

"What does it have to do with you?" Salvatore, just like his father, did not raised his voice. "She is my wife."

"And my daughter in law." Angelo added, "let us not forget that."

She sensed some tension in between the two. Either their relationship have been like this or maybe they had worsened since she had escaped.

"I am not pregnant," She whispered under her breath before lightly glancing at Angelo.

Even though his words were aimed at her eating habits, Evelyn did not give up and scooped another bite of the pastry before eating it.

By the time she was fiddling with the pastry and had finally finished eating it, the plates were cleared and the time for the food was over; meaning finally she would be able to meet Arabella.

The emcee an announcement again and slowly everyone got up to walk out of the dining room and into the ballroom where they had previously been in.

Her husband’s hand settled on her waist again, and even though the action might be seen as a possesive one by the world; it was him telling her to slow down and walk along him.

She was barely holding onto anything at this point and maybe his touch on her could make a focus on the reality and not lose grip of it.

As if it was a call to the mother inside her, Evelyn found herself staring directly at her daughter who was holding the hand of an elder women.

She waited for Arabella to jump into her arms but the child remained there.

With the great that was already on her waist, he curled his arm bringing her towards him. "You cannot directly go to her," the words were meant for her ear as he whispered them directly into it. "Even she knows better than you. No matter what, you do not raise any suspicion or she goes to an orphanage for you can never find her. Understand?"

Falling into the familiar feeling of fear gripping her body, Evelyn nodded. Slowly they started to move, but instead of going to the front of the line Salvatore took her to the woman who was holding Arabella.

Turning her head to the side, she stared at him in question. What was he doing?

"Ms Testa," Salvatore nodded his head at the woman. "I hope the donations I made were enough and they were put to good use."

Evelyn did not wait for the reply of the woman and looked down at arabella.

"Hi," she whispered and waved her hand animatedly at the young toddler The bright smile on her face.

"Hi," Bella whispered back, hiding behind the leg of the women that was holding her small hand.

Controlling her tears were difficult. It was like Arabella was a stranger and her daughter was treating her as such.

It hurt.

But they continued talking. These small moments that she found myself still in was something she was going to hold dear, until Arabella was back in her arms.

"What now?" She asked Angelo as she stood to the side of the hall, nursing a drink. "When would I have her?"

"Soon," he answered, sipping his cognac. " You have to wait, Evelyn."

"It’s been weeks. How long do you think I can wait for?" She pressed her head to his chest, continuing to whisper the words, "maybe you should consider hurrying up the process a little bit."

He chuckled as she felt it. "I waited to years to get my love back in my arms. Why should I make it easy for you?"

Evelyn pulled away from his chest and stared at him, "because I am your love."

If her answer affected him, he did not show. His lips gradually pulled up into a smirk before he huffed a laugh. "Are you my love?"

Salvatore leaned down slightly for them to be at an eye level but he failed miserably even though everyone was wearing heels. There was still an inch or two of height difference in between them.

"If you are my love you why would you leave me and not trust me?"

"If you were my love why would fuck someone else at my door?" Evelyn threw the accusation of his face without remorse. "If you love me why would you do that to me?"

His eyes Hardened, the smile slipped away. " And if I had a child with the mistress? Tell me honestly because I can tell you when you lie, would you never consider cheating on me? A tit for a tat?"

The words made her blush all over. The accusation he threw at her was humiliating. It embarrassed her to the level where she did not know what to say.

If she considered what he said, for even a small—very brief moment, she would consider giving him what he had given her without any remorse or holding back.

Evelyn would also give him the same treatment, the same pain that she had received from him without thinking twice.

"There it is," he tapped her nose as a knowing smile came to his face, "you would do the same."

Angry tears of humiliation built in her eyes and she blinked them away. "You have to understand that I was pregnant before the marriage. It was the night before my father died—"

"I know and I understand that now." He intervened, "an—"

"But you did not understand that then." Evelyn shoo her head as a tear fell from her eye and Salvatore reached to wipe it away.

"Do not interrupt me again," he wiped the tear. "And yes it take me time to think clearly but I have reached the conclusion now."

"Does it matter if you have reached a conclusion now?" Evelyn sniffed slightly. " You did not which one then and that is what drove me apart from you. It is what it took two years away from us."

He shook his head. "What drove you apart from me was your fear of not trusting me."

Fear of not trusting him? "Are you serious? I could not even trust you with that red handprint thing happened?"

"You want me to believe me you when there was nothing happening as such in the cameras?" He scoffed and frowned. "It’s hard to believe when you tell me that there an Eiffel tower in the middle of the ballroom because do you see one, Evelyn?"

Subconsciously, she looked into the middle of the ballroom and there was nothing but a huge chandelier there.

"There your answer is," he grabbed her cheek and turned it to face him. "Would you believe that there is an Eiffel tower in the middle of a ballroom if I told you?"

She won’t.

As far as the answer seemed, she would not believe him. And if Evelyn truly thought about it, she would definitely check if he was drunk or maybe if he was mentally stable.

"Come on now," his hand once again reach to her waist and he guided her to the entrance. "We are leaving."

Leaving?

Just as much as they started to near the entrance, Evelyn gave a hesitant glance at her daughter who was talking to someone else.

"What about—"

"I will take care of it." Salvatore nodded in the front to his guard. "As long as he would take care of what is asked from you."

"Asked from me?" She mumbled the words underneath her, silencing herself as the rolls Royce came into the view and they both climbed in.

"What in the world are you talking about?" Evelyn hissed at him as soon as they settled in the car and he pulled the partition up.

Salvatore turned to her with a smirk, "everything is a bargain, my love. You get your daughter and I," he tapped her nose, "get my wife."
