Chapter 188: Another glimpse - II

[Two years and several months earlier]

Alexis had sent a woman named Nadine. She appeared to be older than Alexis was but just as fit as anyone else.

"The first thing that we going to do is take you to the hospital." The women sports gently but firmly, assertiveness coming as strong but polite ready to take any disagreements. "We have a small clinic for women nearby and that is why we are going to the first."

Evelyn nodded.

She prayed in her mind repeatedly for them to reach the clinic in time. At the time she could still feel the pain in her entire body and it only kept on increasing. Given the fact that she still had blood coming out of her even after Nadine given her pad did not help either.

And they actually did.

They had already pulled out a stretcher even before the car came to a stop and Evelyn was placed on it before reality settled in and she started to cry.

This was really happening. She could have miscarried and the blood that was still sweeping in her legs made the reality true.

She choked on her own sobs and the tears clouded her vision but Evelyn did not stop.

Her chest moved up and down repeatedly as sobs racked her body.

She moved to the side and curled into a fetal position. Somehow when she called herself into the position of a baby Evelyn felt least pain.

"Hey love," she heard someone say but Evelyn did not bother to open her eyes. She felt a small pinch in her arm making her close her eyes.

"It’s going to be fine, love." She had a soothing whisper and before she knew it the pain and the sounds coming from everywhere went away.

*****

Evelyn continued to stare at the wall in front of her. It was white in colour but not exactly white and it certainly did not pinch her eyes.

It was a beautiful white color. Perhaps white was the best color.

The sound of the door opening made her close her eyes. Whatever news had come, Evelyn hoped it would be good but then again her hope was majorly depending on the fact that the doctor would realize that she was still sleeping and would choose to walk away.

"Ms Evelyn?"

Apparently, the doctor could not take a hint.

She opened her eyes but did not bother to talk. Her throat hurt and it felt like someone had forcefully inserted needles down there.

The doctor appeared in har line of vision and studied at the edge of her bed.

With doctors the best thing was that someone could tell by the expression when they would have sympathy on their face or happiness of what the news consisted of but the doctor did not hold any of that.

She had a neutral expression on something that her husband in as well and it did make her feel well.

"What?" She croaked but not at all minding the facts that might look rude.

The doctor finally gave a little smile but after that went back to looking at the firm. "I do not receive any kind of information regarding my patient. Neither do I try to find any background that is the work of others that work with me."

The doctor shifted slightly and spoke with a sigh, " which is why you should not expect any kind of ’congratulations’ or ’I am sorry’ for you because I do not know your background story. I will tell you how it is and depending on your reaction I will assign you a therapist."

Evelyn nodded. The anticipation was growing inside her.

"You have miscarried, Evelyn." The doctor revealed. "You had already miscarriage before you came here, meaning the child was already dead and there was no way for me to bring the child back to Life."

Evelyn stared at the doctor before slowly her eyes watered and she blinked making the tear fall down to her cheek.

She closed her eyes and let the other tears fall before she nodded firmly telling the doctor she understood what was happening.

"Could you tell what it was?" The whisper was set in a hoarse voice.

The doctor smiled but once again it was not out of pity or sympathy, "are you sure you want to know?"

Evelyn went to do not her head yes but ended up shaking her head no. At this point she had no idea what she wanted.

"I.." she choked before starting again. "I really lost it?" She went ahead to confirm with the doctor who nodded her head.

"I am sorry," The doctor finally sympathized but still with the kind non-judgmental smile on her face, "I am really sorry it happened to you, Evelyn."

How was it there in the saddest moments of a life Evelyn once again did not know what to do? This had previously happened when her father had passed away and she once again felt blank and went through her days thanking and sharing condolences with people.

She was supposed to feel bad when she felt like crying, that was all she felt. Was there no other emotion to be involved?

"I..I’m.." her lips trembled when she opened and tried to talk, "I do-don’t know w-what to do." She stammered and shook her head making the tears fall down in the slightest movement. "I can’t..think.." she admitted and closed her eyes before giving one final thought. Why could she not think of anything?

"It’s okay," the blonde doctor nodded. "It’s an absolutely normal reaction. I am going to leave you to rest for tonight. We can start talking to a therapist tomorrow if you want and you can take as much time as you need and only do it when you feel ready."

The doctor moved closer to Evelyn and placed her hand on top of hers, "it’s alright to feel whatever your feelings. Every individual has their own reaction. All I want you to tell me honestly is, would you like to have someone in your room with you?"

Evelyn lowered her eyes before she nodded. She did need someone because at this point, she did not trust herself.

And that was probably the lowest she was ever going to go.
