Chapter 187: A knock on the door - III

Two quick bangs went off making Evelyn kneel down on the floor and cover her ears as much as she could before it clicked.

"Arabella," She whispered as her eyes snapped open and she got up.

Salvatore was standing right in front of her room but she did not care. Evelyn pushed him to the side and entered from the edge of the door where she knew he would have to move.

She ran to the door ignoring the two dead bodies that were there, unmoving and dead to the world.

Just as she turned around another guy was coming in but Evelyn ducked and ran towards the next door completely ignoring the person dressed in black.

It did not matter who he was neither did she try to look back and recognise him. What mattered was her daughter was right next to her apartment and she was unprotected.

On reaching the door of Diwa, She banged on the door with one hand before she twisted the knob with another only for it to come open. Diwa had not even locked the door!

"Diwa? Arabella?!" The words slipped out of her mouth as she walked into the apartment and immediately noticed the Indonesian woman hiding under the kitchen counter with her daughter who was on the verge of crying.

"Shh, shh," Diwa was patting the back of the child urging her not to cry and Evelyn could understand the reaction.

Obviously the elder woman did not want to die and she was still trying to protect her baby by keeping them both on the counter and not making a single sound. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Unable to watch her daughter in the arms of another when there was grave danger, Evelyn moved to them and took arabella in her hands the moment her daughter noticed that her mother was standing.

"Mummy?" Bella whispered into her ear. The small whimper broke her heart. "Mummy.."

"It’s me, baby." Evelyn breathed it in her baby scent as she hugged her close. "I am here, my love." She whispered the words repeatedly.

If it were not the shots that ran out from a gun, it was the loud noises of muscle hitting muscle and Evelyn knew that they were fighting it out.

Her heart pounded in her chest but that was the least of her concern because she could hear and feel arabella whimpering in fear.

She had her daughter tighter trying to make her feel safe. Slowly Evelyn patted the back of head and to the baby before placing her knees up so that Arabella was cushioned in between her body.

The little child was shaking so bad.

Oh god, she closed her eyes. This was the worst thing to possibly happen in front of her daughter. As a child even she had never experienced something so frightening and close to that. Her daughter was definitely going to get traumatized for entire life.

Even Diwa, the overweight woman was breathing heavily making Evelyn shift closer to her and try to give her some comfort wordlessly.

Her eyes closed shut and only when the noise stopped coming from the apartment next month and did she open it only to find Salvatore crouching down right in front of her.

"Out," he hissed with a small and aggressive tilt off his head into the direction of the door before getting up and stalking out of it.

For a moment Evelyn watched him leave until he turned around and the wall did not let her see anything.

Diwa was breathing heavily and she could hear the small sniffs of her child.

Arabella was right here. The problem was Salvatore had already seen her, and it was obvious that he would deem her to be the child that Evelyn was pregnant with meaning..

It would be a stupid move to leave arabella here.

Without a word to her neighbour, Evelyn got up with her child in her hands and silently moved out of the door.

"Mummy?" Arabella questioned softly.

"It’s going to be fine, my love," she whispered into the ears of her daughter, softly patting her back. "Do you trust, mama?"

Evelyn felt her little head nod in her shoulder and satisfied by it she moved to the apartment that they were living in before stopping at what she saw.

Apparently it had not even when minutes since they all had been killed the clean-up crew was her.

Evelyn stepped back and turned her back towards the wall making sure that Arabella, if ever, raised her hand would see nothing but the wall in front of her.

Once they had taken away the four bodies, 4 very on moving bodies from in front of her and had exited the hallway, Evelyn moved and entering her apartment.

Marcello was not here but she could hear the water running in the bathroom.

Salvatore was back at the single seater couch where he was previously setting in and staring at her and then the baby in her arms.

"Who were they?" She whispered very slowly knowing that Salvatore would catch on to each and every word. "I know that I could not have gotten them here which meant, they followed you."

He nodded. "I did. Thankfully I was here otherwise.." he stared at the child, "the probability of you or the child getting out of here was.."

Very unlikely, she knew.

In a situation like this, Evelyn knew that she would sacrifice herself no matter what for her child and the truth was, she would definitely have a fatal shot meaning that arabella would be left alone.

And a little 2 years old child would never survive in a cross fire if she had no one to protect her.

"Evelyn," Salvatore’s voice made her head snap, "keep the child in the bedroom and tell her to stay there. Marcelo will be with her. We need to talk about her."

They did, didn’t they? If he knew where she had escaped from, he definitely knew where arabella had come from.
