Chapter 181: Too late - II

By the time she returned, Evelyn had never been more tired in her entire life than she felt at the moment.

She literally huffed and puffed the entire way and could feel her chest hurting along with her throat that felt like it had swallowed needles.

Open the door to her apartment she closed the door before she placed the locks and secured the apartment shut.

The first thing she did was drink a glass of water which turned out to be a mistake because ended up coughing.

Calming herself down slightly, she made her way back into her room where she picked up the bowl in which she had placed the food of Marcelo and once again opened the cupboard where the man was stuffed into a corner.

"Hello you," she said dryly before she took the ball of cloth that he had placed in his mouth as a Gag. "Hungry?"

He scoffed before he sniffed, "I had fallen asleep, Evelyn. What were you doing?"

"Bathroom," she shrugged. "Girls take time."

"To shit?" He scrunched his nose. "Stinky evelyne."

"Shut up!" She scolded him and his crude words before she stuffed a spoonful of porridge in his mouth.

A few moments, maybe three or five minutes passed in silence before he spoke up again.

"Do you know Salvatore has been underground for the past two years?"he asked randomly and she huffed.

"You made that clear last night. Why do you think it is important enough to be repeated again?" It was important enough to be repeated again. Maybe it had to be drilled into her mind but Evelyn had enough fear in her mind already that she did not need to be reminded of the fact.

He chuckled and took another spoonful. "He has been underground with you, Evelyn, which means that no one knows about your little escapade of running away."

Her eyes closed in an instant and briefly the face of her late friend came to her mind.

Giovannii knew what happened. He knew about it because he had been tortured and he might be the only one along with the other associates that knew about her running away which is why she was eager to please the don by returning with his runaway bride.

He certainly had not expected the bride to kill him.

Evelyn remained quiet, not giving him the pleasure of seeing her panic inside.

"What’s your plan with me, Evelyn?" He teased and taunted her to his pleasure. "I want to know what you’re going to do with me because it sure as hell that you’re not going to stay here forever and you cannot take a man weighing more than 90 kgs on your own everywhere you go."

She gulped quicker than she realised and then wanted to slap herself for the little mistake she showed. The little nervousness that he got a peak in.

"Tell me Evelyn," he probed, "what is it that you are going to do?"

He gave her a small, sly grin making everything shrink slightly. "Are you going to kill me, Evelyn?"

The bowl dropped from her hands as she stared at him in horror.

"W-wh," she gulped, "what?" She stammered lightly but connected herself.

He chuckled, "you are not a killer and you certainly are not a kidnapper." He sighed and leaned his head against the wooden cupboard. "Then what are you going to do with me, Evelyn?"

What could she do? 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"You are not a killer, you are not a kidnapper and you are certainly not someone who could abandon me here without having the guilt to crush your soul." He sighed very loudly and with the paper thin walls that they had Evelyn worried about Diwa hearing him. "What will you do?"

The best option that she could think of was to leave him alone to die here and probably rot his way to it.

With the sass and the constant taunting she did not mind considering that option.

She was about to reply to him when the ringtone of har phone distracted her, making her shove the ball of cloth into his mouth.

Her phone was all the way in the kitchen which only gave her a small opportunity to clear her mind before thinking of something else given that her kitchen was mainly five steps away...or two.

Picking up the phone she looked at the number first making her frown lightly. Why was she even called from this number?

Hesitantly, she removed her eyes from the phone screen before she picked up the call and placed it next to her ear.

Evelyn did not speak a word. This was something that they had agreed on.

"You need to leave." The words were whispered out in a hurry making Evelyn’s eyes widen in panic.

"Now. I mean, now." The word ’now’ was stressed on repeatedly and was emphasized enough for Evelyn to understand the importance of it.

"Got it." She whispered the wet before she hung up on the call and put the SIM card out of the phone.

In two years this was the first phone call she had received and this only ensued her panic more. This was not good. This meant that something very, very bad was about to happen.

"What to do?" She whispered looking around the apartment. The promise that she had made to arabella about keeping her in one place for a long time flew out of her head as the safety of her daughter came first.

She pulled away from the counter of the kitchen that she was leaning on and moved into the bedroom and the doorbell rang.

Crap, Diwa was back already?

Trying to calm her racing heart which was full of tensions, she brought a beautiful smile on her face that was reserved for her daughter as she went ahead to open the door.

Her hand went to the door knob and Evelyn smiled a bit more, as if trying to convince myself that she was supposed to be happy... That everything would be okay.

She twisted the door knob open along with every lock that she had placed on the door before opening it and—

It was not a chubby woman with her child—

It was Salvatore....at her door.
