Chapter 179: A naive mistake - III

Angelo knew something was wrong.

Whenever he sent anyone out on a mission especially when it was one of his family members he made sure that they gave him updates by the hour.

Until now Marcelo had given him none and all he knew was that he was in a small town of London portraying to be an investor just so that they could settle their roots there.

That was very much unlike his child.

Even though, like Alexis, children often stood against him, letting him know about the display sure they felt regarding something they did not cross the line when it came to their security.

"Where the fuck are you, boy?" He whispered as he narrowed his eyes at the screen.

Why was his son at a Bakery? Not to mention the fact that if he was at a Bakery, why was he not replying to him?

This fucker, Angelo cracked his knuckles. This boy was in for a beating if he did not reply to him any sooner.

The digital clock on his table showed him that it was late at night. Not only was it made, it was past their dinner time and for now there was Lucas and Bella Rosa at their home.

Fuck, being a father was exhausting especially to four fucking kids that never listened.

He made his way out of the room making sure to give the screen one last look before closing it shut.

That boy was definitely going to have his ass kicked when he would reach home.

He walked downstairs casually and made his way into the dining room where there was a thick blanket of silence on his family members present in the room.

"Mama is refusing to wear her ring," Bella’s snarky tone annoyed Angela but he understood the reason behind it.

"Can you tell her to wear it?" She addressed him coldly, just like she would do to employees, all business and no play. "Tell her that whatever it is between her and Salvatore and there is no need for her to take it off in regards to us!"

Bella’s eyes went to Alexis who did not pay any attention to them but kept her eyes on the book that she was reading.

"Mum!" She shouted in exaggeration of the event. "You have read the book a thousand times. Can you pay a little bit of attention to us?!"

Alexis did not give her a reply. In fact the mother did not even bother to raise her eyes at the shouting her little girl had given her.

It was like she was an unbothered passenger, the passenger in an airplane not caring for what a bratty child did two rows in front of them.

Annoyed by the situation even more, Bella Rosa gave a sigh before her eyes turned to her father who was seated on the head chair of the table. "Papa, come on."

Angelo shrugged. "It has been more than 24 years that she has taken off the ring I gave her in marriage. If I have not forced her to wear the ring of our marriage, I am not going to force her to wear this one."

A little scoff was heard along with a little movement in Alexis’s shoulders. It got the eyes of everyone but then again her mother completely played it off by reading her book and the woman even turned a page.

Bella Rosa eyed the book in her mother’s hands, "Mama, I will burn that book, I swear to God."

Lucas scoffed loudly. "That book has been with her for more than 20 years. If you do that, she will kill you."

"Then, at least she will look up from that book!" She shouted at the top of her voice, making her father bang his first on the table.

"If I am letting you," Angelo said very softly, "show your anger towards your mother and me, you still stay within your limits."

Every word was carefully drafted out carefully so that his children understood the anger he felt and the warning he put in the words.

None of them respected them in their house and Angelo was about to put a stop to the silence that Alexis had kept around herself.

"Marshal has not checked in with me for more than 5 hours." He revealed and Alexis’ head snapped up that instant.

"What?" She whispered before her brown eyes narrowed at him in anger. "Don’t play with me."

"I would never." He replied but then remembered what he had done with her all his life. "Not when it concerns our children."

Alexis scoffed when she understood why he had made the change and continued to explain his answer further.

"Mama?" Bella Rosa’s voice was soft, almost as if dealing with the wounded animal who was ready to lash out at any moment. "Please?"

But this time the mother did not even bother to look at her child. Alexis had always tried to put an effort in remaining in her children’s lives as a figure that was innocent and that will protect them no matter what, even if it was from their father.

No matter how much she had tried and no matter how much she stood against Angelo regarding things that would harm her children and that they did not like participating in, they had still gone ahead to hide things from her and hurt.

She had willingly participated in his mind games and abuse just so she could protect her children but these children had betrayed her.

And it hurts.

"Call him," she told Angelo, "or have someone check on him just to be sure."

He nodded continuously, a little and a little as if thinking about it. "Just keeping you in a loop about it."

The words hit a chord and she laughed.

The laughter of the mother was the most beautiful thing children had seen but this one was full of pain and sadness which only made Bella Rosa and Lucas look away from her.

"After so long of keeping me out of the loop," Alexis stood up with the book in her hand, "it does not matter now."

She chose to walk from the side of where her daughter was sitting and purposely dropped the book right next to Bella’s plate. "Keep it." She muttered as she left.
