Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 174: Her home - I
The meeting room was ready and now they were all waiting for the investor to arrive. For a second even Evelyn contributed in showing her anxiety as all of them were feeling anxious in regards to having this meeting with the investor but then she realised her anxiety was coming from somewhere else.
It was marcello.
It was he who was causing her anxiety.
She could not help but move her eyes against the glass wall that was where she sat, overlooking the offices that were in the block.
No matter how many times Evelyn looked around to spot a man wearing all black or someone standing there for prolonged time and then necessary, she found No one.
Neither did she find anyone that could be related to the Mafia nor did she find anyone who could be remotely working for it.
"God.." she sighed in exhaustion. The meeting was still supposed to happen, yet she was thinking about something else.
*****
The investor did not show up but someone else did.
He was a representative of the investor that arrived 2 hours before the time that the representative was there but since it was very important for them to pitch the idea everyone waved off like it did not matter and like it was not passed their time of dispersal.
Even Evelyn was hours late.
She had texted Diwa that she might end up being late, given that it was almost an hour before the time that she was supposed to go home that the representative showed up. so she did not take the chance and made sure to tell her that it may be past Bella’s dinner and bedtime.
And it was. By the time she reached home it was already past 7:30 which was the time that she would usually give Bella her dinner.
The first thing should be moved past her neighbours door and into her own. If Bella had already eaten then maybe, she could eat a little before tackling a toddler.
Out of habit the first thing ever landed was to notice the small piece of paper that she would keep near the Hinges of the door and towards the lower side.
She stopped.
It was not..there...
Then that meant that there was someone inside and that someone was waiting for her.
Shit..
That was why she found no one in front of the office.
All of them had been one step ahead and instead of coming to her office, they had gone on to her home.
Shit..shit..shit...
The panic settled in and she stepped away from the door. Her eyes remained on the lock. It was the same as she had left it but the slip was no longer there.
Even though she could put The blame On anyone else that they had purposely ripped it out she was not going to take the chance.
"I can’t even kill him.." she whispered in horror as she pulled on her own hair.
She could not kill him. Marcello was much stronger than her and he was no friend of hers at the moment. He would not trust her to not kill him like Giovanni had done.
She could not kill him..crap.
But there was only one thing that she could do and maybe it might work.
Instead of entering the apartment, she moved down stairs. It was almost two floors down but when she found the door open Evelyn could not have been happier.
The door was open and she slowly stepped inside, creeping like she was the one who was breaking into the house which she actually was.
Bottles and packages of food were littered around the entire apartment.
The person that was responsible for all of this was lying on the couch with half of his body on the ground.
His arm had puncture wounds from being repeatedly stabbed with an injection filled with drugs inside it.
Jackpot.
Grabbing the same syringe that was half filled with drugs, Evelyn darted across the room knowing that this person was never going to wake up.
She huffed as she walked back and front of her apartment and placed the syringe in her purse.
She really hoped that Marcelo had been as gloating as he had always been. Because if he was like that, then for sure he would have come along and no one could be keeping an eye on her right now.
Fishing out the keys from her bag, she placed the key in the handle with shaking hands. She felt like a goat walking into a sacrifice.
She had the unlocking click. Her eyes closed for a brief second knowing that the door that blocked them was now opened.
Evelyn walked in and closed the door behind her. Then a loud sigh came from her signifying that she had been tired of death.
Just as she turned around her eyes went to the figure that was sitting on her small couch.
"Wh-you?" She pointed her finger at marcello. "How?"
"Aww," Marcello cooed, "stop underestimating me, Evelyn."
She was not. Evelyn had perfectly figured him out and even a way out of it.
"So when are you leaving?" If she had to go forward with the plan then she had to know when he would be leaving. The best thing she could do was leave before him.
He chuckled and his arm went around the back of this couch. "You are not a good host Evelyn. I am not even inside your house and you have not offered me anything here."
Not knowing what else to do she entered the apartment and placed the purse on the other couch before taking a seat beside it.
"I don’t have anything to give to you." Evelyn talked in a clipped tone. "I live in basically poverty. So why don’t you get out?"
"If you do not like it and how about we get out of here?" He suggested with an eyebrow up. "I could easily give you the life that you once had."
