Chapter 169: A new beginning - II

Evelyn must have been through half the book when the Englishman had started his way to turn gold when her daughter woke up. It was then she realized how engrossed she had been.

"What time is it?" Arabella mumbled, her tone reflecting that she had just woken up from sleep.

"Morning, my love," she answered, then her eyes moved to her wristwatch, it was eight-thirty. "Are you hungry?"

Arabella nodded, "A little I think." her voice was followed by a grumble of her stomach making Evelyn laugh.

"Okay then," Evelyn picked her child and then her purse, "to the bathrooms first."

She was not going to give Bella a bath. It would be a mistake here and especially in this weather.

Bella and Evelyn brushed their teeth and washed their faces before they moved to the dining area on the train. The entire time when they were walking through different boxes of the train, she did not let Arabella down. Evelyn had her child safely wrapped in her arms.

She had almost spent hours reading that work instead of catching up on her sleep and she half regretted it and half loved it.

If she had fallen asleep like she was supposed to then she would have been more awake during the day and she would have been able to enjoy it with her daughter but now, instead of enjoying it with her child Evelyn was going to have to wake her up constantly.

Maybe she could finish the book today.

Peter was occupying a table alone and he had tried previously to offer them a seat.

Arabella had immediately taken a liking to the man who had so many books with him and especially the specs that he wore on his nose.

"I like them." Bella mumbled as she stared at the glasses at work on the bridge of his nose.

"Really?" He mused. "You might be the first person that has ever said that to me."

Wow, Evelyn sipped her tea.

"Can I have it?"

Double wow..

Evelyn cleared her throat and lightly coughed under her breath. "You cannot ask people that, Bella." She whispered to her daughter.

"That’s alright," Peter mused as he waved the matter away as he took off his glasses and presented them to Bella, "here but do give them back to me."

She nodded and took it with a grin.

But she knew her child which is why she immediately turns to Peter. "How much is it for?"

Peter chuckled. "Why are you making such a big deal out of it? It’s just specs in the hands of a toddler?"

Did not hear what he was saying or were his words not reaching his ears?

"In the hands of the toddler," Evelyn repeated. "Have you never met one before—"crack.

Her eyes widened at the sound and her head immediately snapped to the sound.

Bella looked away from them with her eyes widened in fear and her bright red cheeks and in her hands were broken spectacles right in the middle that were supposed to be on the nose.

"Bella," Evelyn sighed. "We should be a little more careful, yes?"

Bella nodded but did not look at the two adults.

Her mother went to the front to address Peter. With a sheepish expression on her face as well and gave him a little shrug, "so do you want to tell me how much it is for?"

It had taken 2 more days for them to finish their trip to Scotland, especially to the place where she wanted to go and co incident that was the same place where Peter was going.

He had decided not to take any money from her especially when he had another pair in his pocket just in case.

She had finished The Alchemist and now had moved on to another book. It was by the name of the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

She was barely able to get past one part of head when the destination had arrived.

"Well, here it is." She handed out the book for him to take. "Thank you for providing me with your books."

Peter gave her a chuckle. "You do not thank me. I think your daughter liked you reading to her." He looked at the book that she had held in between them. "Maybe, you should keep it?"

"Keep it?" She repeated, perplexed by it. "Why? It’s your book."

The pale cheeks reddened and he looked away. He opened his mouth but then closed it all of a sudden.

"Uh..ihm.." he fumbled with words. "I don’t know. We are leaving at the same station. you could return it if you want? Whenever?"

He was red in the face and the neck. Even though Evelyn knew that there was no way they would ever meet again or acknowledge him in public and would never have the chance to return the book she had pity on the guy and nodded.

"Thanks," she nodded to him before she packed it away in Arabella’s bag.

She reached over and pulled her daughter uo, into her arms.

"Are you planning to carry her all the way?"

Peter’s question made her turn around and nod in confirmation. "Yes, she is small and could be easily targeted. Being like this, helps."

The strap would help at this point but as well and her very stupidly packed it away with the other stuff.

So now, she was left with only one option and that was

"Portree, right?" Peter asked and even though she was not sure if he was looking or not, Evelyn nodded.

"Good," he whispered before he walked in front of her and helped two of her bags. "I only have one back with me so I can easily carry two of yours."

"Oh," her eyebrows shot up. Since she was helping, "I actually have four."

Arabella showed her entire hand to him. "We do."

"Put the thumb down," she whispered to Bella who immediately did so.

"Four bags!" Bella repeated firmly and that even made Peter laugh and nod him head before grabbing the others as well.
