Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 120: A turning point- III
"Erika," Evelyn whispered in mild shock, failing to recover from it, "whatever you’re playing at, I am not going to help you with it."
The said woman gave her a sarcastic smile and replied with twinkling eyes, "what makes you think you know what I am playing at?"
Evelyn scoffed. "I know for a fact that Alexis does not have any kind of diamonds that you would want. There is only something that she has in special that you could possibly think of having for yourself."
Erika giggled. Giggled. As if Evelyn had cracked a joke and not told her the reality. "I know. But no one can resist this."
Evelyn gave her a look where her eyes went up and down. "Yes, people can resist that. You are not exactly what you were 15 years ago." She snapped.
Erica stared at her before she registered the words and her eyes narrowed dangerously at Evelyn but unlike things had been before Evelyn picked up her purse from where she had kept it and pulled out a 50 Euro bill.
"Here," she placed it under the mug, "I don’t think there is anything that you can offer me for now. When you can, expect your payment then."
She stood up and walked out of the establishment as Julian walked behind her. She did not turn around to look at the familiar cafe where she had made a probable thousand of memories.
There was no reason for her to look back when Erica had entered the establishment. The memories that she had made with her mother were tarnished now.
"Home," she said as she pulled on the seat belt and was ready to go home.
How familiarly unfamiliar did the word sound? Home was now Salvatore’s apartment.
She closed her eyes and gave an exhausted sigh. It had been the most fruitless meeting she had ever been to. Erica had nothing to offer them the shit that she had made up for herself.
Their lives were completely different. Erica did not have any reason to enter this life when she was innocent, whereas Evelyn was the one who was born into this life. No matter what, Evelyn would always have a threat placed upon her life whereas Erica would not. She was irrelevant.
Evelyn Would do anything to be irrelevant.
The moment the car stopped in front of the building Evelyn opened the door for her cells and walked into the apartment building. She pressed the button to the floor that salvatores apartment was on before waiting patiently.
Feeding the passcode inside the panel, Evelyn walked into the apartment only to come to a stop when she saw Salvatore sitting at the head chair.
As she came to a standstill Salvatore looked up from what he was eating and pointed his foek her. "I told you I would be coming."
Did he? "You said that you would be informing Marco of your plans." Same as a matter of fact before keeping her purse on the living room couch and moving forward to sit on her chair.
"I won’t have gone if you told me for sure." She said before Marco brought out a plate for her and served her food.
"Is it me or have you recently started to be more Frank?" Salvatore chuckled. "I said I like Evelyn, who was as quiet as a mouse."
A smile threatened to break through but Evelyn controlled it. "Yah? But I think it’s game over for her."
"Good for me," he raised his glass of wind towards her and Evelyn followed suit. With a clink, he said, " because I like the mouthy one. I would love to punish her." He winked before taking a sip of his wine and leaving Evelyn astounded.
******
Salvatore was working on the dining table whereas Evelyn was listening to the news on a low volume mindful of not disturbing him.
She could still feel the slight tingle of what he had said to her at the dining table. The same place that he said in the moment was the same place he had said that he would love to punish her. She knew that it did not have any kind of torturous meaning. Rather a sexual one.
But why did it feel like she could not wait for it?
"You have your thinking face on." Salvatore observed her from the side and commented. His comment made Evelyn look at him.
"What?"
He nodded and beckoned her close with his finger. "Come to me."
Evelyn blinked at him before glancing at the TV. She picked up the remote and turned it off before standing up and going over to him. Salvatore was holding his hand out and Evelyn placed hand on it.
She gasped at the unexpected pull and landed on his lap where Salvatore placed his arms around her securing her to his chest.
"I should have known you would do that." She complained but still nuzzled in.
"You should have." He agreed not to say anything further as he continued to read his files.
Evelyn did not protest. She actually loved the feeling of being right next to him but she couldn’t help but think of it as a test.
Why was he keeping her so close to his files? Was it a test or was it something that she was thinking too much about?
Maybe he just trusted her and Evelyn had to accept the fact.
She might as well though.
With a glance on her ring finger Evelyn understood why he was trying to involve higher in his life. The decision was his to make after all he had the power in his hands but the question was should she go with it or should she protest?
Maybe next time Evelyn would say yes. Perhaps she could ask for some time but at the end, saying yes seemed like the right option to do.
Evelyn sighed and leaned into to his chest more before his phone rang and the moment broke.
"You have to excuse me for this one Evelyn," whispered in my ear and Evelyn understood as she got up and took the seat next to the chair.
She watched as Salvatore pulled out his phone and placed it next to his ear as he answered the call while staring out of the huge window.
She could hear the rapid words coming from the call but understood nothing. Salvatore in front of her said nothing else making it extremely difficult for her to decipher the situation.
Partly for her it was easier. Evelyn had never been involved in her father’s business of problems so she was least bothered about it because Salvatore, by the looks of it, knew what to do.
He Hung up the call and placed the phone back into his pocket but did not look around. The matter must be serious for him to ignore her presence.
"Is everything alright, Salvatore?" She asked him in a gentle voice. "Should I leave you alone?"
He drew in a deep breath before exhaling it. "No," he answered, "would you like to know what it is?"
She nodded. Why would she not like to know what was going on? All her life she had been excluded from search details and Evelyn would give anything to know what was going around.
"Words, Evelyn. My back is turned to you." He reminded her before Evelyn closed her eyes and slight embarrassment.
"Sorry," she cleared her throat. "Yes, I do want to know what’s going on."
He nodded absentmindedly. "My father recently received a proposal for you."
"Proposal?" She repeated the word.
Salvatore turned his neck around just to stare at her as he replied, "yes, Evelyn. Someone made a proposal for you to marry their son. Would you like for that to happen? If yes, be clear about it."
Proposal? Who had sent a proposal in her name? Why had they sent a proposal to Angelo? It had not even been a year for her father to pass away. The only thing that she could think of at the moment was how disrespectful they had been!
Evelyn ransacked around her brain to find that one name who could actually send a proposal for her. Why would someone do that?!
Nevermind that why was the don aware of it? Could Angelo not keep it to himself?
"It is taking an awful lot of time for you to answer my question Evelyn. Are you contemplating it?" He tilted his head to the side and gave her an impressive look which made Evelyn quickly give him a shake of head.
Salvatore stepped closer to her and his height towered her even though she was sitting on the dining table now. He looked down at her and spoke with his lips right in front of her lips, "tell me the truth Evelyn. Just as I have placed that bring on your finger I can pull it out."
He smirked and she felt a shiver run down her spine. "That might be a little painful but I think you can take that."
