Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 118: A Turning point - I
At first sleep seemed to be miles away from her especially when Salvatore was by her side sleeping while she was staring at the ceiling with wide eyes. At some point of the night Evelyn was staring at him.
Evelyn was breathing so peacefully and his chest went up and down in one slow rhythm making it known that he was asleep.
She couldn’t help but stare at the rhythmic movement of his chest. She could tell that he had teeth in sleep but that also made her wonder about one thing. How much did Salvatore trust her to actually sleep while she was right next to him?
Because it meant that whatever her father had done, Salvatores’ trust in her did not disappear. Because if it had, he would have never fallen asleep next to her.
In fact, she would have been given a room where two Guards stood outside the door watching her.
Before long she had slipped into her dreamless sleep.

The next time Evelyn woke up was when she felt the mattress dip. Open her eyes filled with sleep only to find Salvatore sitting there, fully dressed for the day, tying his shoelaces.
Was it the morning already? Why had he not woken her up?
Her eyes narrowed slightly. Was he planning on leaving her here with his father so that the torque last night could continue?
"Are we about to leave?" She got up and was about to sit up when he spoke up,
"There is no need for you to get up so early." He said. "It’s still early in the morning. What and why don’t you go to sleep and one of the maids will come and wake you up in an hour?"
Evelyn had found it very difficult last night to sleep and since she was being offered some extra us to catch up on it, she nodded, not being able to refuse. She laid down on the bed before turning to the other side and closing her eyes, falling into a deep sleep again.
The next time Evelyn woke up was by Agatha. She had gotten rest for the day and the next thing she knew was she was inside a room with Alexis. Agatha had informed her that Alexis butterfly to have her morning coffee with her. Even if Evelyn wanted to refuse, she knew that refusing the mother of the don was not something someone like her should do.
Especially when her father had done something she was not aware of.
"Coffee?" Alexis handed her a mug and she nodded gratefully.
Alexis gave a long sigh. "I did tell Angelo to not pressurize you into anything. It burdened your shoulders and stressed you even more. I apologize for that."
Evelyn waved it off with a smile. Evelyn did not know if it was the fact that Alexis was innocent that she was genuinely a ball of sunshine. Evelyn could not help but smile back whenever Alexis gave her a smile.
"I apologize for causing any kind of problems for my behaviour last night." I apologize for offering you in a way since I decided to fall into unconsciousness on the word of my stepmother.
"Don’t," Alexis warned, "I should be the one apologizing. However, let’s not discuss the events of last night and just focus on good morning."
And without an ounce of protest from her, Evelyn did exactly that.
"I am not going to ask you what you’re saying about what happened last night." Alexis sighed tiredly. "However I will tell you that you are not being forced into any kind of decision making. If you want to say no feel free to say no. My children understand the meaning of answers given by people to them.’
Evelyn smiles tightly and the woman. Clearly Alexis had no idea what kind of children she had. On one hand, Alexis might have reached her children in a way that a mother, an innocent mother, would, she had really forgotten the fact that there was the right hand man Of The devil’s sitting inside her house who was teaching her children the exact opposite if not the most heinous ways of toture.
"I understand, I thank you for that." Evelyn smiled. That was all she said. That was all she could say. Evelyn knew that if she laid a word slip out of her mouth that was something Alexis did not like, Angelo would know for sure.
Sipping her coffee, Evelyn wanted to what extent Alexis had been sheltered from this life. To what extent has even sheltered from the life that her children lives? Because if she thought that her children accepted no from people she was utterly and entirely wrong.
They would never take no for an answer.
After an hour, she had breakfast with the Alessandro family, just the elderly couple and none of the children except Salvatore. Now they were on their way back to the apartment. Since it was a Sunday, Evelyn had ample time on her hands to actually enjoy the day without having done any assignments.
"I have to run to the office," Salvatore told her as he typed something on his phone. "Marco will inform you if I will be in for lunch.’
"That’s alright." Evelyn understood what he meant. The don could not abandon the ship for long, which also meant that she was going upstairs alone.
Partly she was thankful for that. After the events of last night, Evelyn did not want to be in his company until she knew what it was that her father had done.
She made it to her room and lied down on the bed as her thoughts continued to run free. By the looks of it it was not something that her uncle’s were responsible for but something her father had done otherwise the don would know.
If it were her uncles who had done something that Salvatore would have made them a tone for it without her knowledge. But he had purposely made her know that it was something that her father did.
She closed her eyes and gave a long exhausted sigh.
What could her father have done? What was—
Her phone rang effectively cutting off all the thought process. Evelyn got up from the bed and walked to where she had dropped her purse on the floor.
She had expected it to be the don who was calling her to let you know about something but on the contrary it was her stepmother. It was Erika who was calling her.
Evelyn complentated on picking up her call. Why should she even pick up the call in the first place? But last night she had effectively avoided answering the dreaded question just because of a stepmother’s idea so it makes sense for her to pick it up.
She felt like she owed her that at least.
Her thumb swiped the call to answer and she said, "thank you for your help last night. I will compensate you well—’
"Those things were something that suited your father or any other man that could actually talk business. You, on the other hand Evelyn, are someone who is not meant for it." Erika chuckled. "Don’t talk about compensating me. Even though I am aware of how well you can do that, there is something else that we need to talk about."
Evelyn scoffed. "15 years you have been married to my father and in those fifteen years we have hardly had a talk. What is it that we can talk about now?"
"We will talk about how you underestimate your power." Erika cut her off sharply. " This thing that you can hold onto his interest forever? Let me tell you something Evelyn, what is happening today will not happen tomorrow and that is for sure. You need to give him an answer and make sure that ring is on your finger."
At her words, Evelyn could not help but glance at the ring on her finger. "But I don’t even want it there."
Erika snorted which was highly unlikely for her to do. "The Crown that once rested over your head, which made everyone treat you like a princess is no longer there. Now it is going to be a ring and if the ring is not on your hand then you might as well have it cut off because that is what people are going to do."
Evelyn huffed. "I don’t want to do something that I don’t want to do." She admitted. "This is not the way of life I wanted to live."
"Me neither, Girly. Me neither but here we are." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
The words shocked Evelyn. She had never imagined her stone gold stepmother to admit that she was also forced in this life.
"All I can tell you is, I will be waiting for you at the cafe in the outskirts that your father owns. I will be waiting for just an hour, Evelyn, so, decide quickly."
