Chapter 117: No more of a party- V

"I. . ."

"Do it."

And she did.

Evelyn dropped the phone on the ground and was excited on the impact before falling down on the floor herself.

Her stepmother did not stop talking. She kept on screaming the word hello over and over again before level and finally heard the footsteps come closer. Just as they came closer they retreated back making her belief that the plan had failed even before it started.

Evelyn was about to open her eyes when she heard the thundering sound of multiple footsteps. This time they were not at all out of pleasure but they were quick. The person had called for more people.

Evelyn felt herself being picked up half way and by the scent reached her nostrils it was obvious that this person was Salvatore.

"I told both of you tanot pressurize her into this. Look at what you did!" Alexis’s accusation made it harder for Evelyn to control herself.

She already felt guilty enough and when she found Alexis to be taking her side, she could not help but find the knife of guilt twisting more painfully.

"We have learnt a lesson," Angelo snapped at his wife. "Take care of it. The rest can leave. Call for doctor in the morning if he does not feel fine."

She was not at all surprised at the fact that it was the father barking out the orders at his children. She felt herself being picked up by Salvatore and let her body feel limp.

She felt him move. It was obvious that he was taking her to a room. Before long, she felt herself being lowered down to a mattress and being covered by a blanket.

"I think I will go now," Alexis said. "You know how to contact the staff quarters and in case anything happens to have the number of the doctor."

"I do, mother." Salvatore replied, surprisingly closer than evelyn had anticipated. "Thank you."

She had the light footsteps of the woman before the door to the room was closed and Alexis had left the room.

Salvatore sighed loudly. "Why do you not drop the act and wake up, Evelyn? You are not good at concealing expressions as you think of yourself to be."

Her eyes flew open.

Evelyn found him to be on her side of the bed, standing up as he was looking down at her.

He smirked. "In case you want to continue this in the future, I would advise you to join the drama club."

She gulped and lowered her eyes. Should she have said that she was sorry? But won’t that be the admission of the crime? But she had committed the crime!

He huffed. "Let it go." He said and sat down by her legs. "I understand that night has been too much for you. I did nudge my father to not go so deep into it but of course, he won’t listen." He chuckled. "However, I have placed my ring on you and I am not taking it back."

Evelyn glanced at the ring. This ring bound her to the dawn forever or at least until he wanted.

She licked her lips. "You said you’d give me your choice no matter what."

He chuckled. "Before I realised that there are people that want you. More than you know."

They did? How was this possible, she wondered, because Evelyn had never stepped foot outside our house and whenever she did, she was concealed very well.

"How does it matter if people want me because I want you and I’m not going to cheat on you." Her voice was extremely levelled at this point between the fact that she was not lying.

Salvatore stayed at her observing for any kind of attributes that could tell her that she was lying but at the end reached over and squeezed her hand which was folded over her stomach.

"I appreciate you not lying to me." Said he. "I appreciate it even more that you know not to cheat on me."

The dark undertone to wait for something Evelyn did not ignore. Even though he was appreciating the fact that she was not going to cheat on him, it was a warning for her as well.

She nodded and raised her hand. "What of the ring? Your father asked me for my opinion and he said ’honest opinion.’"

The young Don chuckled. "You will say yes." His grey orbs hardened, "it won’t be the first time for you to lie in front of him."

Her lips parted in sudden shock of his words. "I didn’t... I don’t—’

"No matter how small or big the lie might be, my father does not appreciate it." He shook his head firmly. "He does not care if the truth has been omitted or hidden."

What?

Salvatore nodded but it was something that he seemed to do for himself more. "You do not know the dealings of a father and even though he is near to mine, my father still does not appreciate being lied to but you are not going to be the consequences of it, fortunately."

She narrowed her eyes at him gauging out for any kind of information but Salvatore gave her none.

By the looks of it Evelyn knew her father was responsible for something she was not for. But as the law of the land was, the family could be punished for the crimes committed by one member. Blood was blood after all.

However it appeared that the former Don had taken a decision to not punish her and keep her in his protection which meant that whatever there was, was too grave to get out or the Don was simply being forgiving.

And Evelyn knew that it was definitely the first one because the latter was never going to happen.

No Don or boss is ever going to be forgiving. They were not even after giving to their own families So being forgiving to her was a completely different concept.

"Are you not going to tell me about what my father did?" Evelyn turned to the source. "I think I deserve to know more than just empty riddles."

"No," he said as he stared at her with a blank gaze, "you deserve to know more but I won’t tell you."

What? That was the definition of leaving someone high and dry.

"Please," she resorted to begging. "Just tell me what he did. It is important for me to know what you’re talking about—"

"Stop it, Evelyn." The sharp voice made her flinch. "I said I’m not going to tell you anything means I’m not going to tell you anything." He snapped and her eyes lowered to the sheets of the bed.

Now that was all that Evelyn could think about. This was something completely out of the blue and something she would not expect her father to do.

It was not that her father was man that followed the rules and regulations set by the government but there was a certain lines said by every household in the families of crime that was never crossed so Evelyn to be utterly distrustful for her father to be accused of something like that.

"You don’t have to accuse my father," she looked at him, "it could not be him but one of my uncles."

Three of her uncle’s were always up to no good and it had taken countless sacrifices from her father to make sure that their mistakes were not brought back on the family. If her father had never done that, father had never given his sacrifices for them, the family would have been taken out for the good a long time before.

So it was obvious that they had done something behind her father’s back and in his ill health he would not have been able to find it out.

If questioned to why she was so sure, the answer was, her father would never do anything that would endanger her life more than it already was.

"Understand why you come from Evelyn," his hand found her and gave it a small squeeze, "my father and I will decide what we need to do in the end. However, you will not be at the receiving end of it."

That was something highly unlikely. Because Evelyn was a direct descendant and the only heir her father had. There was no way that she could be excused for something her father had an even if dhe was in the protection of Angelo.

Unless. . .

Her eyes snapped to his who had not looked away from her. So, there was a high chance that it was true.

"Is that why you gave me the ring?" The words flew out of her mouth. "Are you marry me so that your father cannot kill me?"

He smiled and stood up. "Do not concern yourself with such things. Remember, I have never done anything for one reason."

She watched as Salvatore slipped into the bathroom was closed the door behind him. Evelyn’s eyes stayed on the door as she wondered, what are the reasons were there?
