Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 111: The dinner party - V
"Married?" She stuttered.
Her ears had started to ring out the words that were just spoken to her. It seemed easier for her to ignore what he had said but Evelyn very well knew that he was not joking about them and that he had spoken those very well.
With his stone cold expression it was obvious that Angelo knew very well but he had spoken and he was not backing away from it. His constant and continued stare on Evelyn made it obvious that he was waiting for an answer.
"Marriage?" She repeated again.
"Yes." He confirmed. "I want you to be married to my son."
"Why?" She blurted out. "Everything is just going fine. I don’t think I need to be married to him when I am already with him in a relationship."
It is completely no sense for him to spring out something like this out of nowhere. Salvatore and Evelyn were already dating and they were in a relationship since she was officially with the don.
What more could a title be given to everyone except for that of a girlfriend? The only other title that was available for her would be to be his wife and the Donna of the organisation.
That was something she was completely not ready for. Evelyn fisted sweaty palms on her jeans. This conversation was something she was not ready for. This was where she needed his support.
"Everything is going fine which is why I am telling you this." He did not back down. "If you must know there are people that are going to attack you and the only way that we can protect you to the full capacity is by making you his wife."
"No, no," she whispered to herself, " I am in your protection already and that protects me like a family member. I think that until we decide to get married to each other, I should stay in your protection."
She was playing a dangerous game. Not only was Evelyn trying to act like she did not have any idea what was going around her, she was also trying to deny what the don was offering her.
One thing If he said that behind her back was trying to hint but Angelo har spoken about it directly to her which had put Evelyn on the spot where she could not ignore what he said, rather accept or deny it.
There was one thing that Evelyn had noticeably observed about the both of them. All of these members would never give someone the option of entering a grey area. It was always a choice between black and white. There was never a no in between.
He chuckled and Evelyn slouched slightly. That was not good.
"It’s funny how you are saying you can tell me what you want to do, Evelyn." He smiled and she recoiled back. "Do I need to make you aware of what I can do?"
She shook her head no. One thing she did not need was a demonstration of power.
"Good," he smiled. "Now, tell me do you think there’s something wrong with my son?"
"No," she whispered immediately. By this time ever and was actually breathing heavily. She did not understand what kind of offence she was making and how many she had already made. She never questioned how he had raised his son so what kind of problems was he talking about? Was he trying to deliberately trap her into something?
It seemed like he was but then again Evelyn but not just about any assume that.
Even if she was very well aware of the truth.
"Nothing wrong with your child, sir." She went ahead to say that just so it would not cause any kind of misunderstanding. If he was deliberately trapping her than ever that was going to give her best into not being trapped.
"Then why is it you shy away from marrying him?" He tilted his head to the side and that brought back flashbacks in Evelyn’s mind. One was how Salvatore tilted his head every time he said something and other was when Bella Rosa did the same.
"I don’t shy away, sir—"
"When in the same position as he is. If you were a civilian and you knew what he did I would be understanding of your predicament. Of course, you would not want to get into a family of murder and deceit but you were born into one Evelyn," he chuckled again and he had hit the spot, "you were born into another it would be foolish of you to think that you could get out of it unharmed."
She gulped.
"A low ranked soldier cannot get out of it alive and you, the daughter of a former Boss, could do it?" He taunted and Evelyn gulped again as tears started to rather in her eyes.
He must be aware of how every jab was hitting her. Of course, he was aware of the sharpel in her chest and he was not afraid of squishing it inside and twisting it.
He manipulated it inside her head, drawing blood to his content and he did not stop.
"If anything, you would only make more problems for yourself if you don’t. What would you prefer? A man who can treat you well or someone who would leave you to his mistresses?"
Of course she was going to opt for someone who can treat her well. Someone who did not pay mistresses attention as much as he would do to her, or someone who would not have mistresses at all.
All of these questions that he had put inside her head was pointing out one solution that Angelo very very conveniently laid out in front of her.
That’s when it hit Evelyn and she almost laughed out loud in realisation.
Angelo had never tried to put any doubts or questions inside her head. He was not trapping her anyway. Instead he had, very conveniently, cornered her by her own mind by swarming questions in her mind that would obviously trouble her.
