Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 110: The dinner party - IV
Alexis felt disoriented immediately as you woke up. This was something that always happened to her whenever she had a flight back to Italy from the states. The flight was awfully long and it did not help that she could not sleep on it.
Unaware of the time, she lazily moved into the bathroom before washing herself awake, coming out fully dressed.
The next thing she did was walk down stairs and into the kitchen to make sure that the dinner preparations had started. It was 7:30 o’clock in the evening which meant that probably her second eldest child was here.
"Good evening, mother," she smiled and turned around to find Salvatore sitting on the counter bar stool with a cup of coffee in front of him.
"Morning kid," She whispered back in Italian having slight knowledge on what to say.
Salvatore raised an eyebrow at that. "I really hope you had a nice flight to the USA. One must be tired after such a long flight. Are you sure you don’t want to rest tonight?"
Alexis stared at him as her eyebrow lightly twitched at what he said. Salvatore had spoken all of that and rapid and fluent Italian making Alexis look like a fool.
"Hey," she deadpanned, "Don’t you dare."
"Dare what?" He continued to spout in Italian, making Alexis narrow her eyes at him. "You need to be a more specific mother."
"Oh, I’ll be specific," she nodded, " let me call your father and he will tell you how specific I can exactly be." She gave him a sarcastic smile knowing full well that this threat would work till the very end.
Salvatore’s smile vanished. "I am a grown man."
"Won’t hurt you to behave like one then." Alexis threw his way getting into a talk with Agatha about the dinner.
Thankfully Agatha was as prepared as ever. The menu had been decided and the kids’ favourite had been made. Tonight’s dinner was going to be kept light for Alexis as she was not feeling well but for the kids it was going to be a treat.
Grabbing a warm cup of tea for herself, Alexis moved around the counter to stand in front of Salvatore on the other side of the counter. She slightly leaned over red and then stared at her son. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"How is it going with Evelyn?" She asked with all seriousness. "It has been two months since both of you have been living together."
"It has." He said, agreeing to her. "However, is there something specific that you would like to ask about?"
Alexis felt the desire to smile. He was pretty straightforward, much like his father was.
"I meant, you two are dating. I want to know how that is going for you." She smiled a little giddily. "I have never seen you have a girlfriend before and now that you have it. . Is a little . ." How did she say this without sounding rude or incompassionate. "It’s a little out of the blue to have you be close to someone that is not family."
She watched him very closely. It was not uncommon for Salvatore to school his expressions very quickly which is why if there was a change in them Alexus had to spot it pretty quickly.
"It’s been fine." He answered effortlessly as if he had been preparing that answer and Alexis saw through it very well.
Alexis smirked. "Be honest, please."
Salvatore huffed. "I don’t know if it’s her or just date in general but it does not feel bad."
"So you do like her." Alexis smiled. " That’s good, right? Hopefully you will find her good enough for being a Life partner too but do not hurry."
"I’m not." He muttered. "But hurry is all I have left. You know the line of profession that I am and if I do not hurry, someone else might whisk her away or I might not have the chance to breathe."
"Aww, love," Alexis reached over and rubbed her thumb over his knuckles very lightly.
This was something that Alexis was much aware of. Time and again when Angelo got shot and would return home in a bloody shirt or she would be called to a hospital Alexis realised that the dangerous life that they lived made them the way they are.
But her child seat was the absolute rule. Salvatore did not know how much time he had and so the Lexus. It was natural for him to hurry it all up.
"Salvatore," Alexis sobered up. "One thing I want you to promise me is, you will not force Evelyn to marry you."
She watched him very carefully when she said that and waited for his reply. It was essential for her to receive a positive answer after what she had witnessed for herself.
She would not call the life that he had been given by Angelo a time of torment because in that time she had also found beautiful kids and luxury that she could only dream of. Sure, they had their moments but Angelo had improved even if a few qualities of him had remained.
But still Alexis would not wish it upon anyone benefit was a felon who had left in this life forever.
However if Alexis gave it another thought, Evelyn probably knew better than Alexis.
Evelyn had been born into a family just like her kids were, so it was obvious that she knew better and Alexis would not have to protect her.
There was also another fact where Alexis knew that Angelo had ever in in her protection. So, once again she had no reason to worry for something that would turn out to be fine.
Probably.
"I would not do anything unless I have to do it." Salvatore’s voice brought her back to reality and Alexis found herself to be looking at them again.
She narrowed her eyes on those words. "What is that supposed to mean Salvatore?" What kind of situation could possibly arise for him to force Evelyn into something?
"I have raised you better than that. Please do not disappoint me at this point.’ she warned him yet Salvatore did not show her even a slight change in his expressions.
Whenever he did something like this Alexis found him to be an exact replica of his father. It was very difficult to gauge out any kind of reaction that he might be thinking or even have a slight inkling of what he was feeling.
Motherhood with this kid was not the easiest.
Salvatore held her stare which meant he was not going to back down from this. "You have taught me as much as you can. I am thankful to you for that." He straightened his back as he continued, "however, you have to understand that I have other responsibilities other than being just your son. Those responsibilities come above what I am to you."
"Oh, is it?" She taunted back. "What kind of situation could it be that would make Evelyn forced into doing something that she doesn’t want to do? Evelyn comes from the same background as you, so I think she would be intelligent enough to recognise a threat, if she saw one."
"On the contrary," he pointed, "Evelyn has been held up inside the walls of a house for as long as I can remember because her father did not want her presence to be threatened. If anything she has spent her time on those walls so you cannot expect her to deal with things like Bella Rosa does."
Bella roza had been an awfully understanding child whenever it came to understanding what security precautions her father had placed on her. If not then Angela did not mind showing her what she would be experiencing if she stepped out of the line.
It was something that Alexis had been thankful for. She faced no rebellion of kids running away into the world where they would be shot down immediately when spotted by an enemy.
"Bella Rosa learned," Alexis corrected him. "If it comes to Evelyn, your father can teach her as well."
"He won’t. I will."
And of course, possessiveness ran deep in this family.
She shook her head. "She is not as hard headed and strong as Bella is. I need you to understand that. And since you know that she has been inside the walls of her house rather than being laid out, you need to understand that she is going to be fragile."
Since Alexis was not aware of what the past and Evelyn had been through she could not say that she would be as strong as Alexis was.
Salvatore stood up. "Everyone is parallel to a certain level, mother. I cannot always protect her and she will need to toughen up."
"You cannot?" She retorted. "Or you won’t?"
He chuckled and Alexis froze.
The way his lips tilted to the side when he smirked and his eyes darkened made her think of one man. Salvatore replicated his father exactly.
"She needs to be strong." Was all he said before walking out.
