CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 32 - 40: Impossible
James Black, lying beside the bed, suddenly fell silent for a few seconds, then picked up Jane Sampson together with the quilt, hoisting her over his shoulder and out of the bedroom.
As a person being carried away like a sack of potatoes, the position was truly uncomfortable.
Jane Sampson, grinding her teeth in anger, was somewhat relieved when James Black quickly placed her on a dining chair. He then yanked the quilt off her and said in a cold voice, "Eat first, then sleep."
Oh for heaven’s sake! Is eating really that important?
Clinging stubbornly to the quilt, Jane felt a surge of anger because she was carried out and, in a voice mirroring James Black’s stern tone, blurted out, "James Black, I think we must get a divorce!"
Because divorce won’t disrupt sleep!
No sooner had she finished speaking than Jane’s nose suddenly caught a strong scent of braised chicken, so perfectly timed that her stomach let out an embarrassingly loud growl, making her wish she could bury herself in a hole.
What was supposed to be a powerful statement lost all its momentum instantly!
James Black, for his part, had not expected that dragging her out of bed would result in Jane angrily demanding a divorce. Sitting across from her, his face was stoic, the air around him oppressively tense.
"Don’t look at me like that," Jane said, lowering her head, unable to meet James Black’s gaze. No matter how he glared, she had no intention of taking back her words, nor would she.
Once divorced, she wouldn’t have to live in constant fear of James Black discovering what she was hiding from him.
"Jane Sampson, it seems my words from last time didn’t make it clear to you. Fine, I’ll say it again," James Black moved, filled a bowl with soup for Jane with deliberate care, setting it down in front of her with an audible thump.
Jane’s gaze involuntarily followed his fingertips for a few seconds before she slowly raised her head to observe his increasingly dark expression.
"Between you and me, divorce is impossible."
Stunned by James Black’s words, Jane paused. "That’s not what you said last time—you clearly didn’t say it was impossible."
Men are so fickle, changing their tune just like that. He clearly hadn’t been so certain about divorce the last time.
James Black chuckled noncommittally without responding, considering that Jane was just being emotional, or rather, speaking with the grumpiness of having just woken up, so he wasn’t taking her seriously.
"James Black, don’t be so absolute. One of these days, you’re going to be begging me for a divorce!" Jane hummed defiantly, lowering her head to eat on her own. She couldn’t care less about James Black just as much as he was ignoring her. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
After eating, the once drowsy person was now full of energy. Jane sat on the sofa holding her mobile phone, deliberately choosing a spot two seats away from James Black.
After sitting down, she glanced at James Black and then, after a moment’s thought, began to retract one leg onto the sofa. It was at this point that she suddenly noticed James Black’s gaze flicking her way, and, feeling guilty as if caught in the act, she quickly placed her foot back on the floor.
Only after hearing James Black’s scoff, which was somewhere between a laugh and a sneer, did Jane pout, wondering internally why she was acting so meek.
If he couldn’t stand her lack of decorum, then why not just get a divorce, right?
After this thought, Jane quickly pulled both legs onto the sofa like an old woman, grabbed a backrest, got comfortable, and began happily watching the dramas she hadn’t watched in a while.
Perhaps it’s true that people’s psychology is often masochistic; Jane was terrified when James Black reacted, but when he showed no response to her deliberate provocation, she felt a simmering frustration.
