CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 31 - 39: One o’clock is not scary
James Black suddenly reflected, was it right or wrong to let her go to work?
Before, although she did nothing in the house, at least every time she came home, her spirit seemed quite good.
But now, having only started working for over a month, had she become so exhausted?
Was it because she hadn’t adapted yet, or was her work really that strenuous?
After all, James Black’s wife didn’t need to work herself to the bone to make ends meet. At first, he just wanted to make her time a bit less tedious, but it seemed she might have overexerted herself.
The car had already stopped at the dining hall doorway, but the person sitting next to him showed no signs of waking up.
James thought he should wake her up to go inside and finish the meal, but seeing Jane Sampson sleeping so soundly, he suddenly felt reluctant to disturb her.
Eventually, James left the car with Jane still inside under the parking attendant’s care and went to order vegetables. When the meal was ready and Jane Sampson didn’t wake up, James had the waiter pack everything without touching a thing. He then informed the cleaning lady, who was already cleaning at home, to make sure the bedroom was ready first. Carrying the packed meals, he returned to the car, drove home with Jane, who had never woken up.
James did not know how demanding Jane’s art-related work was – so demanding that even when he carried her from the car into their bedroom at home, she did not show the slightest sign of waking up.
In the living room, the two cleaning ladies worked quietly. The fragrance from the meals on the tea table was still strong. James sat alone on the sofa, glanced at the closed door of the bedroom, but seemed to have lost his appetite for the dinner before him.
The cleaning lady finished her work and left after settling the bill at around 10 p.m., and it was James who woke Jane up.
The now-awake person on the bed pulled the quilt over her face, mumbling something indistinctly as if showing a bit of temper for having been awoken.
"Jane Sampson, get up," James said as he reached to whisk away the quilt and called out to her again.
"She’s dead," Jane mumbled with her eyes closed, her foot involuntarily moving towards the quilt.
Jane’s skin was very pale, and freshly woken, her cheeks held a healthy flush, making her entire appearance as attractively pale and rosy as a peeled shrimp.
It was the first time since their marriage that James had seen Jane Sampson show temper, or act petulantly, to be precise.
James’s gaze shifted from Jane’s sole, his voice growing slightly heavy, "Get up, eat dinner, then sleep."
Jane quickly became alert, bounced out of bed within a few seconds, the first thing grabbing her mobile phone to check it, then froze there, looking up at James and asking, "Is it only 10 p.m. now?"
Jane thought she was late for class, which, without proper leave, missing or being late had serious consequences.
"James Black," Jane rubbed her eyes, "Can I negotiate something with you? Don’t disturb me, let me sleep until tomorrow morning, okay?"
After letting her heart settle back down, Jane collapsed back onto the bed, plucked up the courage to snatch the quilt from James’s hand, turned over, and despite James’s frowning face, chose to keep sleeping.
A frowning James Black wasn’t frightening!
Not frightening at all!
She, Jane Sampson, was not afraid in the slightest!
Jane repeated this to herself internally, and feeling the person standing next to her watching her, she shrank further into the quilt.
