Chapter 238: Chapter 246: When Free

"So, you and Jane will be staying here tonight? I don’t have any social commitments this evening, so we both could keep Old Sir company and have a couple of drinks," said James Black, who had practically been raised by Bill Gingery and was thus considered almost like a son by his uncle-in-law.

"No need, I’ll take her home after lunch," replied James, shaking his head in refusal. He then added, "Uncle-in-law, you often have to socialize, so it would be nice to have some free time at home to drink tea with grandfather. It’s better for your health than drinking wine."

James’s face was expressionless as he spoke these words, but he sounded dead serious. Bill Gingery glanced at Old Sir, nodding repeatedly next to him, and secretly mumbled to himself that James was truly raised well by the old man.

Since they weren’t prepared to stay over for the night, after lunch Jane Sampson took out the specialty souvenirs they bought from her luggage and then promptly left the Black Residence with James, carrying her bags and getting into the car.

It wasn’t until around three o’clock in the afternoon that the two finally entered their home. James had asked the hourly worker to clean in advance the day before, so despite the house being unoccupied for a few days, it was spotless.

The first thing Jane did when she got home was to go to the bedroom to check on her rabbit Kris. Not finding him in the master bedroom, she ran to the guest room and only relaxed when she saw that Kris was well and lying on the guest room’s bed. She then took Kris back to the master bedroom.

James went to the kitchen to have a look and confirmed that the refrigerator was stocked with fresh vegetables and fruits, then he felt relieved and entered the master bedroom, where by that time, Jane had already changed into her pajamas, comfortably lying in bed, enjoying the air conditioner and playing with her mobile phone.

"The vegetables and fruits in the fridge are all fresh from yesterday, so you can cook yourself a meal at home this evening," said James from the doorway.

"Oh," acknowledged the woman in the bed rather perfunctorily, her hands flying across the mobile phone screen.

"I’m going back to the guard team," James announced, furrowing his brows.

"Oh," the woman in the bed replied without a second thought, continuing to treat his words merely as an acknowledgment.

James stood at the door for a few seconds, Jane never once lifting her head to look at him.

"Jane Sampson."

James called out the name and surname of the woman on the bed.

"Ah~" Jane responded in a languorous manner, her eyes still fixed on her phone.

Finally unable to bear it, James strode from the doorway to the bed with his long legs, looking down from a height at the woman who was ignoring him as if he were thin air for well over a minute. Nearly gritting his teeth with frustration, he pressed down on Jane.

He lifted his hand and easily snatched away the phone from the surprised woman, pressed a button to exit her from the game, and then threw the phone to the foot of the bed. He forced her hand to intertwine her fingers with his.

"Give me back my phone; my teammates will kill me," Jane said, annoyed and angry, but she couldn’t push off the man lying on top of her who was as immovable as a mountain.

"Do you have time to listen to me now?" James’s face was so dark it looked like it might rain.

Jane’s gaze, chasing after the phone, finally came back to him. Suddenly faced with James’s visage, she slowly, quietly drew her neck back into the quilt.

"I said I’m going back to the guard team now," James repeated the words he had said earlier, then stared intently at Jane’s face. She wore a confused expression for a second before her eyes suddenly lit up.

"Didn’t you say tomorrow at lunch? How come it’s now? Is the guard team very busy? That’s alright, you go ahead. My headache was gone when I woke up this morning; I’m feeling fine," she said.
