Chapter 86: Skipped a Beat

"Arghhhh..." Ash woke up with a throbbing headache and couldn’t open his eyes as he sits up on his bed due to the pain.

"Here take this," Ash tried hard to open his eye to look at the person who spoke but ended up only opening one eye.

He then took the cup that Ava is giving him, "It’s good for hangovers, drink it all up."

Ava was tasked by Rei to help Ash last night so she had no choice but to stay in his penthouse and wait for him to wake up so he can bring him to the doctor the next day.

Henry beat him up so well that he needs a few stitches and one of his eyelids needs to be drained of blood or it might get infected and affect his eyesight.

"You can go home Ava, you didn’t have to do this," Ash said after finishing up the concoction that Ava gave him.

"I can if I want to lose my job. Rei wanted to make sure you will get checked by a doctor before I leave you, and I am sure Amy wants the same. So get up, I made breakfast and then let’s go to the doctor so I can go home," Ava coldly said with a little bit of annoyance in her voice.

"Are you angry at me?" Ash asked upon seeing Ava avoiding his gaze.

"I am not mad. Why should I be? I just can’t believe how much of a jerk you can be when drunk," Ava harshly said.

"I know, but I can’t help it. My heart is stupid and my brain agrees with it," Ash uttered while slowly standing up feeling every part of his body ache due to the fight last night.

Ava scoffed at him seeing how Ash struggle to get up, "I’ll be outside, so hurry up. I don’t want to babysit you on my precious day off."

"So grumpy... I’ll be there in no time," Ava just nodded at him before calling her again. "Ava," Ava looked at Ash wondering what does he need this time. "Thank you."

Ava was frozen in her spot for some time as Ash walks to his en suite. She saw Ash smile genuinely at her and saw his dimples. ’He is cute when he smiles like that, instead of frowning all the time,’ she thought.

After eating breakfast, Ava and Ash went to the hospital to fix Ash’s face. It took them a while since there were a lot of patients that day and Ash refused to see a different doctor.

Ash ended up wearing an eye patch after the doctor drained the blood that accumulated on his right upper eyelid. Ava couldn’t hide her laughter when he saw Ash with an eye patch.

Ava snickered and Ash did the same, "Oh my God you look like a pirate. Maybe you should grow your beard too, to match your eye haha."

"You are enjoying this huh? If only I wasn’t too drunk last night, your boss should have been in a far worse state than I am," Ash grunted.

"If you were not that drunk last night, you wouldn’t have started a fight in the first place."

"Perhaps you’re right. Hey, if you’re not doing anything today, how about I properly thank you for taking care of me and buying you lunch?" Ash asked Ava that caught her off guard.

Ava didn’t expect Ash to be this friendly with her since she is just doing what she was asked to do.

"Maybe next time," Ava tersely replied.

Ash nodded, he can understand where Ava is coming from. She works for his enemy but he thought it would be nice to spend the weekend with someone else besides Mary and Amy who he is sure at the farm right now with Henry.

The two of them walked down the hospital hallway without talking to each other until Ava bumped into Amy.

"Ava!"

"Amy!"

The two chuckled at seeing each other’s surprised faces.

"What are you doing here?" Amy asked Ava.

Instead of replying, Ava stepped to her side to show Ash who was behind her.

Amy’s jaw dropped and she covered her mouth upon seeing Ash’s face with bruises, and cuts. Even though he was wearing sunglasses, the eye patch can still be seen on the sides.

"Oh my Gosh, I am so sorry Ash. I hope you get better soon," Amy said.

"It will heal. I thought you are at the farm, so what are you doing here?" Ash asked.

"Family planning," Henry said. He was at the cashier when he saw Amy talking to Ava and Ash so he hurriedly went back to her and wrapped his arm around Amy’s waist while answering Ash’s question.

Ash clenched his fist upon seeing Henry and his anger was refueled when he heard his answer. True enough, he saw the label on the door where Amy came from before she bumped into Ava. The two visited an OB-GYNE and now he is very curious why.

"What are you doing in there?" Ash pointed to the doctor’s clinic, "Are you pregnant Amy?"

"No, I am not," Amy answered.

"Mind your own business, Mr. Brighton. I just told you, we are planning our family. It’s about time you plan yours," Henry retorted.

Ava got alarmed by the brewing tension between the two, that if she will not do anything about it, these two might jump on each other again.

"I think we should go," Ava grabbed Ash’s wrist before nodding at Henry and Amy.

Thankfully Ash did not protest and followed her, but she can feel his agony and anger.

"Ava, tell me the truth, is Amy pregnant?" Ash finally broke the silence between them as soon as they got into the car.

"No, she is not, and that’s why they are there, to prevent it from happening," Ava explained. She then heard a sigh of relief from Ash. She pities the man but at the same time, she is amazed at how strong his love for Amy is.

"How about I take your offer for lunch? I mean, if it still stands," Ava decided to have lunch with Ash to distract him from his situation, thinking that she can be his friend at a time like this when Amy and Mary cannot be with him.

"Really? Sure! Let’s go," Ash smiled at her. His mood suddenly changed into a happy one. And there it is again, she saw him smile at her and her heart skipped a beat.
