CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 68: Ever-trusted
Early morning the next day, Amy and Henry decided to go their separate ways. It was their last day in Brookegrove and Amy wanted to spend the whole day with the kids for tomorrow they will leave early to attend Mary’s party on time.
Henry wanted to go with her but he received a message from Marcus Lane late last night that he wanted to meet him today. He already has an idea why. He is the father of Vanessa and her being a daddy’s girl, he is almost certain that their meeting is about her.
Henry dropped Amy first in the hospital before going to Lane Corporation. The Welsh family and Lane family have been in many business ventures for years. Lane’s business usually includes malls, retail stores, and real estate.
Even though Marcus loves her daughter so much, he is kind to Henry. Marcus Lane and Thomas Welsh were best friends and at one point in the past they planned to arrange a marriage between the two so they can be a real family from then on.
Marcus would always apologize to Henry if his daughter does something crazy that makes Henry angry. He would send gifts or do things to compensate him and to ask for his forgiveness. And due to the old man’s diligence, he would always forgive Vanessa for her dad’s sake.
She’s his only child like Henry and Henry knows how it feels to lose a family member that’s why he has always been tolerant of Marcus. He just looks at it like a father’s love to his daughter.
Henry entered the Lane’s Corporation together with Rei and he doesn’t need to show any IDs to the reception since he was known as the future son-in-law of Mr. Lane before Vanessa got married to Mr. Cromwell.
People who knew him in the building either bowed or greeted him but he was not in the mood to greet them back because of what happened last night with him and Vanessa. He brushed off everyone and continues to walk towards Mr. Lane’s office.
Last night after Amy went to the loo, Vanessa took the opportunity to corner him. Since Mr. & Mrs. Wilson were approached by other guests, he took Vanessa to the balcony to avoid making a scene and talk privately.
As soon as they were alone, Vanessa jumped at him trying to hug and kiss him. He panicked and pushes Vanessa away from him. Being caught off-guard, he used more force than he should have in pushing her away, making her hit the plant pots on the balcony before she dropped to the floor.
Mr. Lane’s secretary let him in right away to his office without informing Marcus first which just means that he is waiting for him and already had informed the ground floor guards and receptionist to immediately inform him of this arrival in the building.
Lane Corporation is one of the top companies in Brookegrove and the Lane family is very influential in the business world. Mr. Lane’s office resides on the 20th floor. His office and the board room are the only ones located on this level.
Henry saw Marcus standing near the floor-to-ceiling glass windows looking outside when he entered his office. Henry wanted to go back to Amy right away so he intends to finish their meeting as soon as possible. He did promise Amy to spend his whole time with her while in Brookegrove and now he is missing a few hours of it because of Vanessa’s dad.
Marcus looked at him a few seconds after hearing him enter his office, "Long time no see Henry. What do you want to drink?"
"No, thanks, I’m all good. Uncle Marcus if you wanted to talk about Vanessa, can you get to the point, I have no plan of staying for long. There’s somewhere else I need to be," Henry coldly uttered.
"You mean back to your current gold-digger? Have a seat Henry," Marcus scoffed.
"She is not a gold-digger. Now if you will just talk bad about her, I’ll just go," Henry was about to turn around to walk out of the door when Marcus clicked his tongue.
"Still hot-headed? I did not call you to talk about that woman. I want to talk about my daughter," Marcus then gestured for Henry to take a seat on the sofa in the middle of the room which he did.
"What about her?" Henry casually asked but his tone does not show any concern.
"Vanessa is sick, she has endometrial cancer. Did she tell you?"
"What? N-No she didn’t. How long has she known about it?" Henry is not sure if he will believe her or not since he knows the antics that Vanessa pulled on her father ever since they were young just to get what she wants from her dad.
"Just a few weeks ago. She told me she will tell you, but perhaps she changed her mind seeing that you have a new contract with another woman," Marcus then told his secretary via intercom to bring them something to drink.
"So, why are you telling this to me now?" Henry annoyingly asked for he can feel that there was more to it. He knows Vanessa is planning something that’s why she told her father that. She wanted her father to be the one to bring the bad news to him so he can ask for a favor from Henry.
"I talked to her doctor and she said the cancer is just stage one so there’s a high chance of survival but they need to remove her uterus and they will freeze her eggs so she can still have children in other means.
But they want to fertilize her eggs first; they said that if they do it that way, the chance of conception is higher."
"Okay, so what does it have to do with me? Aren’t you two supposed to be the ones talking about it and not us two? Unless you are asking me to father her future embryos," Henry sarcastically said.
"That’s the reason why I like you, Henry, you are very very smart. And yes I want you to do exactly just that," Marcus grins and Henry does not like the smile on Marcus’ face right now.
"No, I will not," Henry tersely said while giving out a blank face.
"Come on Henry. You don’t have to marry her yet. You can wait for the child to be born first that way you are sure that you have an heir before marrying an infertile woman. The wedding can be done afterward," Marcus said.
"I will do none of those," Henry stood up and added, "Now if you have nothing important to say to me, I’ll be on my way."
"You are not forgetting that your father signed to have your marriage with my daughter aren’t you?" Marcus blurted out which caught Henry’s attention, he stopped walking out and faced Marcus again.
Henry banged the table with both hands, which made Marcus jerk from his seat, "Yes, I am not forgetting that Uncle Marcus. That if the contract is breached, Vanessa will get the 3 companies that Welsh Holdings have in this country. You know what; I will call you Mr. Lane from now on. Forget me calling you Uncle because I don’t care about your agreement with my father.
I will not marry Vanessa nor become her donor. I don’t care if she becomes barren forever or if she will never have children of her own. And if there’s someone whom I will marry, it will be the woman you are calling a gold-digger. I’ll be happy to give her all the gold in the world."
Henry then walked out of Lane Corporation Buildingleaving a stunned Marcus Lance. It was the first time that Henry got mad like that at him or at anyone in front of him. He knows about Henry’s women and he never imagined that he will be angry with him because of any woman at all.
Rei was already waiting for him at the front entrance of the building and noticed how angry Henry was.
"So what happened? Seems like the old man finally has shown his true colors for you to look like an angry volcano," Rei said.
"That fucker said Vanessa has cancer in the uterus and wanted me to become her donor and then marry her if the procedure becomes successful," Henry removed his jacket as he feels hot and starting to sweat due to too much anger.
"I bet that’s not the only reason why you are mad right?" Rei asked further.
"Yes, he pulled his arranged marriage contract card. I need you to do something about it," Henry commanded Rei knowing that Rei can definitely work around it.
"Haha!" Rei just laughed at him as he starts the engine of the car.
Henry’s face started to crease as he watched Rei laughing; wondering what happened to him, "What is so funny?"
"It is done, boss!" Rei gave him a quick glance as he drives them back to the hospital showing his smug face to Henry.
"How come?" Henry asked.
"I already took care of all the possible hindrances you have in your miserable bachelor life so nothing can stop you from marrying Amy. I favor her you know, more than I favor you. She’s a good influence on you so work your ass out on making her say yes to you.
You are becoming rusty my man," Rei gave Henry a quick tap on his shoulder to show his support and Henry couldn’t help but just shook his head while smirking at his ever-trusted reliable friend.
