CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 145: Enough Proof
"May I have this dance?"
Back in the reception, Mary who was eating her dessert while sulking looked up at the man who owns the voice.
During Henry’s surprise birthday party, even though she and Anton agreed to be each other’s date, they were not able to enjoy each other’s company. They were the ones tasked by Amy to handle the preparation and everything needed during the occasion including entertaining the guests.
Now that Amy and Henry are married, she can’t help but get jealous that she and Amy will have less time together and she’s left alone with no one to spend time with. Don’t get her wrong, she is happy for the couple but having a man of her own would be a nice addition to her monotonous life.
"I thought you’d never ask," Mary smiled upon seeing Anton handing his hand which she immediately took with grace.
"You look so lovely today Mary. Let me apologize for not giving you much attention last time. I wa –"
"It’s ok, Anton, I understand, all of us were busy that day. I even forgot to drink water that day ha ha ha!" Mary was trying to hide her disappointment but what happened back then is done and she cannot change it.
Anton brought them to the dance floor and he guided her hand to his shoulder while he hold the other.
’Ah... He smells so good...’ Mary moved closer to him as she enjoys his musky scent.
Anton placed his hand on the small of her back as he pulled her closer before he led her to sway slowly to the music.
"Mary..."
"Mmm?"
"I want to make it up to you if you will let me," Anton stared into her eyes without a glint of hesitation. He had made up his mind that he will no longer be scared of Mary’s strong personality and pursue her.
The more that they spend time together, the more that he sees her, and the more his desire for her grows stronger. She’s not really his type of woman but the more he gets to know her the more he becomes attracted to her.
She has this skill of luring someone into her world with her bubbly personality yet strong character. She never fails to make him laugh or at least smile every time they are together.
Like Henry, Anton had been with a lot of women before just not as many as Henry of course, but he had a fair share of them in his life. And yet he had not met someone like Mary before.
He usually gets instantly attracted to someone shy, timid, and submissive ladies which is the exact opposite of Mary. But then again, there is something about Mary that makes him really interested in her.
It amazes him that Mary is not afraid to say what she thinks. Very assertive of what she wants and very smart too. It impresses him that even though Mary can find another job that will let her earn more or perhaps open up her own business, she still chose to stay by Amy’s side. Her loyalty to her is very rare these days, he thought.
"And what is there to make up? I mean we are not in any relationship other than business acquaintances. We are not even friends yet, so don’t fret you don’t have to," Mary faked a smile. She really likes Anton but he seems not into her and it would be a waste of time if she would still push herself to him when she doesn’t know what to do anymore to make him like her.
"But I want to..." Anton muttered before looking away.
"I’m sorry I didn’t hear that, what did you say?" Mary squinted her eyes trying to read his lips. The music on the dance floor is getting louder as it goes into its chorus making it hard for her to hear his words.
Anton looked at her again and this time he spoke with conviction, "I would like us to be more than friends, Mary."
Mary’s lips opened then close again, she wanted to reply but was rendered speechless. She did not expect him to say that not at least today. She was happy of course but nervous at the same time. She thought that she would jump at him when this moment comes but instead, she has no words for it.
Anton waited for some time and sighed when she did not say anything and just looked away and seems to be lost in deep thought.
"Is that a no?" he asked with a frown.
"No, yes, not what I meant. I mean... I don’t know what to say..." Mary sighed with a dropped shoulder. She was scared that Anton might misinterpret her or back out. "I-I just..."
"I like you Mary, do you like me?" Anton was so straightforward with his question that once again Mary became speechless.
Mary stared at him not knowing how to answer. She was afraid to speak for she might say the wrong words again. She just wanted to say the right words and leave a good impression on Anton.
With a sharp pull on the small of her back, she was swiftly drawn closer to Anton’s sturdy chest. Anton had let go of her hand only to touch her face and the next thing that she knew, his lips were already on hers.
He kissed her sweetly, pressing his lips gently before licking and sucking her lips softly. It was a short one but Mary felt every second of it until he finally let go.
Mary kept her eyes close for a second before she stared back into his eyes. She saw him look back at her with eyes that glisten in the warm light of the dance floor.
"Is that enough proof, to show you that I like you? If you don’t like me, just tell me and I would go. The–" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Mary cut him off by kissing him back but hers was just a quick peck on the lips to silence him, "D-Don’t go, I-I like you too," she then quickly look down feeling shy of what she just said.
Anton on the other hand smirked, her answer was music to his ears. And now that he knows she feels the same way, there’s no stopping him now on what he plans to do with her.
