CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 124: Incoming Headache
As soon as Uncle Trev and Amy took their seat at the dining table, their lunch was served. Amy was overwhelmed with the different variety of food that was served to them.
Amy looked around the dining room looking for someone. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Is there any other food that you would like dear?" Uncle Trev asked when he noticed that it seems like Amy is looking for something.
Amy waved her hands back and forth and said, "No, no, I was just wondering who are the other people that will join us."
"Ah, it’s just us dear," Trev said tersely.
"B-But how about your daughters, aren’t they going to join us?"
"Nope, they are studying overseas."
"So why is there so much food?" Amy looked at each dish. The serving is not that much, however when she counted there were about 8 dishes in total and there were just two of them on the table.
"I don’t know what kind of food you like so I asked the chef to prepare different kinds of foods that you might like. Of course, I don’t want you to think that our family is not taking care of you," Trev then signaled to the maids to start helping them with the food.
Amy was perplexed by Trev’s reason, she thinks that it was a waste of money to serve this much food for just two people. They wouldn’t be able to finish all of it for sure.
But anyways it’s already served she thought and she cannot do anything about it anymore. She tried her best to eat a little bit of everything to not offend Henry’s Uncle.
"Uncle, about my question earlier. Please tell me what is wrong with Henry. Why is he running out of time?" Amy could have asked about it earlier for she was eager to know but at the same time, she wants to show that she appreciated the meal first before diving back in getting her answers.
Uncle Trev drank a mouthful of orange juice first before answering her. "The only thing that is wrong with Henry is that he is so slow in popping out the question and putting a diamond ring on your finger."
"We are still young Uncle, perhaps he still wants to enjoy his single life," Amy casually replied as she slice the meat on her plate.
"I agree that you are young but dear he needs to get married soon. You see, his father and I made an agreement before he died. He cannot get fully his inheritance if he will not get married before he turns thirty."
Amy stopped eating and just stare at Trev while frowning. She is totally confused about why would someone do that to their own children. What kind of condition is that?
When Trev noticed the puzzled look on Amy’s face, he continued. "Don’t get us wrong, we love Henry that’s why we don’t want him to be alone. His father promised to give him 50% share of the company upon marrying. He has 30% now, I have 20%. If he will give me a grandchild, I will give him my 20%."
Instead of having clarity, Amy got more confused, she started rubbing her temples as her elbows rested on the table, and she can feel an incoming headache.
"But why would you give your 20% to Henry? How about your daughters?" This family is complicated, she thought.
"Ah yes, my daughters. Well, I already allotted money for them. They can work in Welsh Holdings after they graduate if they want to.
But the share that I have there came from my brother. He gave it to me when I had financial trouble. I already got what I needed and it is more than enough so I think it is best to return it to his son don’t you think?"
"You are so kind to do that," Amy cannot believe how generous Trev is. It is very rare to meet someone who is not greedy.
"Maybe I am or maybe I am not. I just want my daughters to learn how to navigate their life on their own. They grew up having everything, while Henry is different.
He grew up struggling internally, and he worked hard to come where he is now. My daughters lived a worry-free life and I am afraid that they will not learn anything if I give them everything."
In a way, Amy agreed with Trev about teaching his daughters about life. She also admires the fact that he had saved up for them even though he will not give the company share as part of their inheritance.
She can’t help but wish that it was the same for her back then. She loves her parents don’t get her wrong but it could have been easier if they did not leave her with huge debts and problematic properties.
The two continued eating silently but Trev kept on looking at Amy as if he is not done with his stories. When it was time for dessert, Trev couldn’t stop himself anymore and finally talked again.
"You know dear, if you marry Henry, all your problems with your land will be solved. He will be able to get his inheritance from his father as well. You both can use it to pay off your loan.
And once you give me my grandchild, my 20% will be both yours. It’s a good deal right? Definitely a win-win for the two of you."
She didn’t get surprised anymore that Trev knows a lot about her. He seems to have hired a very good private investigator to check everything about her even before they got properly introduced to each other.
Amy doesn’t know if she will be happy that Henry’s family accepts her or if she will cry because Uncle Trev is pressuring her. Now she knows how Henry must have felt over the years.
"Henry will decide when he wants to, Uncle. It is still too early for our relationship to end in marriage," Amy said.
"You don’t understand dear. If Henry does not get married after he is thirty, his 50% share will be sold to the public. Anyone can bid, and if he does not give me a grandchild the 20% will be donated to charity. All his hard work for the company will go to waste. And I am sure you wouldn’t want that, don’t you?"
Amy raised her right brow but immediately fixed her expression. She did not like his last words, after pressuring her earlier, Uncle Trev is now making her feel guilty. As if it will be her fault if ever that happens.
After their long chitchat that seems to be like an eternity for Amy, Uncle Trev has no more stories to tell and finally lets her go.
"See you on Friday dear. I hope you think carefully about what we’ve talked about and consider my suggestions," Trev yelled while waving goodbye as Amy’s car drives away from the mansion.
"That was a long talk if you’ll ask me," Ava commented while seating in front.
"It was, and I think I need a drink later," Amy replied.
"Where to now?" Daves asked Amy since he was not given any instructions earlier before leaving Trev’s mansion. Amy was in a hurry to get away from Trev or he might remember something and she will be stuck there till evening.
"We still have time, let’s head to the farm. I need to make an appearance there."
Dave then stirred the wheel to head to Bellory Farm.
