CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 113: A Sight to Behold
After attending the skydiving mandatory orientation, everybody geared up. Henry’s hands were sweating, his heart was beating fast and he feels like throwing up. Never in his entire life, not even once that he at least imagine doing something crazy like this.
He is not friends with heights or any extreme sports. He likes cars, yes, but that’s it, nothing more than a high-speed safe race track.
He can also fly a plane but does not indulge in anything more than a smooth-flying airplane.
But today, he will be up in the air, in the God damn open sky with nothing on, just himself and a parachute. Well, it will be a tandem skydive where an instructor will jump with him but it still doesn’t calm his nerves even a bit.
The description and things he learned from the orientation somehow convinced him that everything will be alright but still he cannot help but feel very nervous and anxious.
Whenever he looks at Amy, the smile on her face does not fade away, it is always there. That was the only thing that he holds. Skydiving with Amy will make her happy and damn yes, he will do it for her even if he faints in the sky and drops dead to the ground.
But of course, he knows that he might be just exaggerating after seeing all the successful jumps in the orientation. So he told himself he can do it, it was just one jump, nothing more.
"Are you nervous?" Amy asked him while she hold his hand as they walk towards the jump plane.
"I honestly don’t know how I feel," Henry said, feeling as if there was a lump in his throat.
"You’ll be fine, I promise," she said with a wide smile before she let go of his hand to run after Mary and Sandra who were almost near the plane already.
He felt someone put an arm around his shoulder but he did not remove his gaze from Amy who is now laughing with Mary and Sandra.
"Tsk, you have one energetic, feisty woman there. You should be the one who should train. Start training for extreme sports my man. I believe this is not the last crazy thing that she will think of. Good luck bro," Rei chuckled as he taps Henry’s shoulder before leaving him to join the girls.
"This is Rei’s fault," he uttered when Anton walked beside him.
"Well, just a bit, Mary and Sandra were talking about it. They were really planning to do it sooner or later. Too bad Maya is not feeling well, she would be here if not, for sure," Anton said.
In no time, their jump plane is up in the air and it is approaching 14,000 feet at about 80 knots and the instructors are preparing everyone for the jump. The girls were really excited and cannot contain their joy.
The women have female tandem instructors since the three men were not happy with them getting a male instructor. They also requested for separate videographers to jump with them to capture every moment.
Everybody’s heart was racing like horses due to anticipation, except for Henry, who was due to anxiety.
Rei and Mary went first, followed by Anton and Sandra.
"I will go first, Henry, see you soon. Don’t take too long, and don’t you dare back out," Amy said then she face the other people on the plane, "If he changed his mind, please push him out of this plane, alright?"
"Amy! Do you plan to kill me? Don’t worry I will jump... on my own, no need to push me," everyone laughed at Henry.
"Okay... See yah! Let’s go! Woooooo!!!" Amy screamed excitedly as she and her instructor jump out of the plane.
"Remember to breathe in deep in three alright?" Henry’s tandem said and he nodded. He might not be able to breathe out when they jump due to his nervousness he thought.
"Okay, ready, one... two... three..."
Henry did as he was instructed and jumped out of the plane after inhaling deeply with closed eyes. He waited for that soul-sucking, stomach-wrenching feeling but it’s been a few seconds and he felt none.
He could only feel the strong wind against his hair and skin. He can hear Amy screaming and laughing near him until he heard her call him.
"Henry! Open your eyes! Loooookkk!"
He bravely opened his eyes and it was beautiful.
He saw the crystal blue sea on one side and the majestic green land on the other side. It was different from flying a plane where he needs to focus on the plane’s controls but now, he doesn’t have to do anything but just enjoy the view and the feeling of smoothly falling.
’So this is what birds feel when they fly. It’s so wonderful,’ he said to himself inwardly as he enjoys the view.
"Woooooo! Yesss! I love it!" Amy screamed one more time.
Henry smiled seeing the priceless happiness that Amy is wearing on her face right now. He was glad he did this with her. She was right, he will love it.
It was so blissful in the air as if all their problems are gone and nothing mattered, just them.
He heard one of the cameramen shout something to them but he didn’t understand it. His senses were overwhelmed with everything that is happening and he cannot focus on anything but Amy.
The next thing that he saw was Amy and her instructor maneuvering closer to them. Amy held both his hands and then kissed him for a few seconds, just enough for the cameraman to take their picture before she let go.
A few more minutes passed and he heard his instructor say, "We are nearing the land. I will release the parachute soon, be ready."
Henry nodded and looked for Amy, she was not very far from him and he can still hear her screaming and laughing happily with her partner. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Upon reaching 5,000 feet their tandem instructors deployed their parachutes. It was a sight to behold as different colored parachutes can be seen in the air.
Henry gave himself a pat on the back, praising himself for a job well done. And yes, he finally agrees that that group date is the best so far. Not a romantic one but memorable and impressive, something that he will never forget as long as he lives.
Amy really is his angel, he thought. She was the cure to his condition, time and time again, and the one who helps him overcome his greatest fears. She is just exactly what he needs in his life and nothing more, nothing less.
