Chapter 248: Chapter 248: Spirit Beast

The acidic ball landed at a huge black paw. The paw crushed the ball into pieces. The acidic liquid sizzled and released constant smoke in the air. But the black paw was unharmed. Not even its fur was corroded.

Mater walked forward as the black panther. He growled deeply.

Warlock Demonic Items were different from usual Artifacts. It grew with the user’s power and rank. So even a Common Item like the Transformation Watch could become extremely powerful if Mater was high level enough.

That was the reason why he was able to stand a chance with the Ascendant from the White Seam Factory. The Ascendant had higher levels but Mater had much more powerful toys.

"That cat just transformed..." Solomon squinted his eyes.

"Holy hell! Did you see that?! Big Sister’s Familiar could transform!"

"Big Sister? No one calls her that anymore. She’s the Dark Knight."

"Dark Knight and her Dark Panther!" Someone screamed excitedly. Way too excited to be precise. It was as if that girl was meeting their idol.

"So what if your cat can transform? It can’t find my NCE." Solomon said.

"That is where you’re wrong, Solomon." Selina smiled under the helmet.

Mater’s eyes tracked the gecko wraith’s every movement. It wasn’t hard for Professor Brookes to figure out that Mater could see through invisibility.

"You?!"

Before Solomon could react, Mater rolled into a Spike Ball and shot at the gecko wraith. He did not hold back.

The black ball of spikes crushed the wraith into a mess on the ground. Its invisibility deactivated.

Mater jumped back and gazed upon Solomon. His eyes were unapologetically threatening.

"Your move, Broken." The panther’s deep voice echoed.

All the Professors that watching stood up from their seats, except for Howard who was already standing near the arena.

"That cat is a Spirit Beast!" Professor Brand blurted out.

Oscar was sitting near her. He turned to her and asked, "What is a Spirit Beast, Professor?"

"Humans aren’t the only species that had Psycho Force, Mr. Quill. Scientists also found traces of it inside animals. But whether or not they could become a Psychic is an entirely different thing." Professor Brand said, "The chance for an animal to become a Spirit Beast. It’s like 1 in a million. Each Spirit Beast is more valuable than gold itself. Even in the history of our school, there haven’t been many Psycho Slavers that had a Spirit Beast."

"Actually," Professor Brown was also there. He rubbed his stubbly beard while talking and held a gentle smile on his face like he was remembering something amusing, "There was one very famous case. Selina’s mother, Iris Sordenfield. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

She also had a Spirit Beast. It was also a cat. An orange cat."

Oscar noticed a shift in the Professor’s gaze. Prior, Selina only had their interest. But now, they had their attention.

There were less than a hundred PHANTOM in the entire Union. Selina’s mother was one of them.

And now... She almost walked the path that her mother had walked. These Professors didn’t see a mere nepobaby anymore. They saw a potential PHANTOM in the future. A Neutralizer that could be the jude, the jury, and the executioner at the same time.

Oscar’s eyes flashed with unknown intentions. He needed allies. Powerful allies. He had wealth and influence. But he didn’t have allies. Selina had become a potential ally for him. He didn’t want to secure his family wealth or gain more influence.

He was different from the Von Schattenbergs and the Zakharovs. That was why he joined the military at such an early age.

’Maybe you and I can walk the same path, Selina Isles...’

Professor Brookes took a deep breath. The panther had touched a nerve. Broken was a nickname that Solomon once had. A name back in his school years. It was the same name that Iris Sordenfield always used to make fun of him.

"You’re all the same..." Solomon’s eyes sharpened. "Let me teach you some manners on behalf of your mother."

Solomon’s five tattoos shot out. Five wraiths materialized in front of him.

Each was a different kind of reptile or amphibian. A giant snake. A red salamander. A crocodile. A basilisk lizard. And a chameleon.

"These are all Menace NCEs, Miss Isles. Let’s see if you and your cat can deal with them." Solomon said.

"Hmm."

Selina pulled her sword out of the ground and laid it on her shoulder.

"You shouldn’t mention my mother." She said, "Go to town, Mater."

Even when she’s pissed off, her voice in this form was still calm. Deadly calm.

"Gladly." The black panther replied in human tongue.

Mater didn’t use any spells. Those were his powerful skills. One Nether Beam would crush all of these wraiths in a blink of an eye. He liked to keep it as a surprise. Mater curled back into a ball and bolted forward.

Selina began to charge her sword. Dark energy of Nether leaked out from the armor and went inside the blade.

The salamander opened its mouth and breathed out fire. It had the appearance of a red lizard.

Mater ignored the fire. It couldn’t even hurt him. And bolted through the flame to attack the salamander.

The turtle wasn’t slow like the stereotype said it was. It quickly got in front of the salamander and took its hard shell on the back down.

The turtle held it like a shield and used it to defend against Mater’s attack.

The turtle was pushed back immediately and shoved onto the salamander. Both of them were sent flying.

The basilisk, a green lizard, stood taller. It ran on its two hind legs. It was incredibly fast.

The basilisk went around Mater and approached Selina, intending to attack the potentially more vulnerable Psychic. It was a mistake.

Selina swung the sword. She didn’t charge too much energy but that was enough. It was not her intention to destroy the entire facility.

A purple beam shot out and split the basilisk in half. It was running too fast and couldn’t move away quick enough.

The purple beam continued to shoot at the turtle’s shield and sliced the shell along with the turtle in half.

The salamander had the same fate. Its mouth was sliced open as the sword beam went through it.

The remaining wraiths, the snake and the chameleon didn’t even have the chance to react. They survived but they were both flying backwards with deep cuts on their bodies.

"Peak Menace..." Solomon whispered under his breath.
