Chapter 468: If Not Destiny?

That question sliced through his heart like a searing blade, leaving his throat constricted and his voice strained as he asked, "...What?"

Mu Yuze could sense how tense the man was. He knew that what he was doing was fatal; that there would be no turning back anymore once he uttered these words. He was literally tearing the façade he had been keeping up for three years and risking his peaceful life with He Juan. But he... he just could not hold it anymore. The pain and longing in his heart was too much— it was unbearable. And his salvation lay only in He Juan’s hand.

There was a high chance that he would ruin everything between them, that he would sink deeper into the mire of despair. But right now, he couldn’t care less about it– he did not want to. He only wanted He Juan to look at him, to have those beautiful silver eyes filled with the image of him. Even if it was just for a fleeting second... he wanted to leave an indelible mark on He Juan’s heart.

So he held onto He Juan tighter, pouring all of his love, adoration and desperation into this embrace. Leaning his forehead against He Juan’s broad back, he quietly let his tears fall, gritted his teeth and forced the words out of his badly constricted throat. "Is it not enough that I’ve become an Omega? I am no longer a child. Gege, Juan-gege, He Juan, look at me please... don’t chase me away, okay?" His voice petered out into a soft painful whisper.

And He Juan... He Juan could not believe what he was hearing. Everything felt surreal right now— the warm tears soaking into his shirt, the thin pair of arms around him, the agonizing plea...

It was like floating in a dream. His vision turned hazy as a wave of dizziness struck him. Perhaps it was the shock, the fever, the thick sticky pheromones in the air, or the combination of them all at once. He almost failed to keep himself upright. W–What did Mu Yuze just say? If He Juan did not interpret it wrong, he was... confessing, wasn’t he? Even though he did not utter the word ’like’ or anything similar, yet for some reason the effect was all the more devastating. As if he was a humble pilgrim who could only implore for a fraction of his deity’s attention, not daring to say anything more for fear that he would appear too greedy.

Since when? He Juan’s mind raced like thousands of galloping horses. Since when did he...

But was it important right now?

He Juan let out a scorching exhale and closed his eyes, sweat continuously cascading down his skin in buckets. "I understand," he said quietly. He patted Mu Yuze’s hand, a hint of resignation in his tone. "I understand now, so let go first, okay?"

When Mu Yuze loosened his grip, He Juan turned around and the string in his heart tightened when he saw the pain and tears in the boy’s soulful eyes. That’s right, was it important when Mu Yuze started liking him? It did not change the end result either way.

There was a reason why mates were often referred to as true or fated. The probability that one could find their other half amidst billions of people on Earth was so low that most people did not even believe in the existence of mates anymore, and chose to settle with the person they liked instead.

The fact that He Juan could find his mate, even before his manifestation had occurred...

What was it, if not destiny?

The corner of He Juan’s lips hooked into a smile— one that Mu Yuze had never seen before. He had braced himself for He Juan’s anger or repulsion after his abrupt confession, and in a split second he had even entertained the thought that he would be kicked out of the house. But none of them happened; instead, He Juan was giving him an extremely soft and tender smile that seized all of his breath away.

Light danced within He Juan’s curved eyes. It could even be considered carefree as if... as if he had finally broken free of the chains that restrained him.

Mu Yuze was dazed by that captivating smile and thus he was unable to react when He Juan suddenly bent down and placed a light kiss on his forehead.

Mu Yuze: !!!

W–What had just happened?! Juan-gege... kissed him? It was really a kiss, right?! He was not dreaming?!

"I’m sorry..." He Juan uttered gently as he brushed his fingers against the corner of Mu Yuze’s damp eyes. "I made you cry again. Foolish boy, what exactly is running in your mind? Where did you see me look at anyone else but you?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Mu Yuze stared at the man before him blankly, his mind crashing down like an overheated computer. He could understand each of He Juan’s words, but when it was strung into one sentence, it became foreign to him. He Juan... had never looked at anyone else but him? W–What did it mean? Was he implying that he also...

Disbelief struck him akin to a lightning bolt, stunning him in place. His heart, which had been sinking deeper and deeper into the pit of abyss, was abruptly dragged back to the light and soaring through the sky full of rainbows and cotton candy. Ba-thump! Ba-thump! His heartbeat was so loud that he could feel it pounding on his throat.

"J–Juan-gege..." he licked his dry lips. He wanted to ask He Juan to say more, to reassure him that he had not misunderstood those words, but his heart rate suddenly skyrocketed and the world spun in front of his eyes.

"Xiao Ze!"

He Juan caught him in time as his body went limp as he himself crashed down on his knees, cradling Mu Yuze on his lap. The boy, who had been so passionate earlier, lay listlessly in his embrace with flushed cheeks and hazy eyes covered in a layer of mist. Even then he still tried to cling to He Juan, his fists bunching on He Juan’s shirt and his cheek rubbing back and forth on He Juan’s shoulder. His warm breath brushed against He Juan’s neck. "Gege... gege..." he mewled, his voice as soft as a spoiled kitten. "My body, it feels weird. It’s so uncomfortable... what should I do..."

He Juan’s heart froze in shock. Oh no, Mu Yuze had fully gone into a heat!

Even with the patch on, his pheromones continued to pour out of his gland, thick and rich in sweetness. They beckoned to He Juan like a siren’s call, luring him in, bewitching him, making him unable to think of anything more. He blankly looked down at Mu Yuze.

Mu Yuze— his mate. His other half, who was made just for him alone. Right now, he was akin to a fully blossomed flower, every inch of him was oozing with allure and sweet nectar, begging to be devoured.

Bite him, his Alpha’s primal voice roared within him, on the verge of madness. What are you waiting for?! Bite him and make him yours!

He Juan’s breathing turned ragged, a low growl forming on his throat. His pupils were fully dilated now, feral and ravenous, as he locked onto the willing prey before him. In desperation, he gathered Mu Yuze in his arms and held him tighter, as if cradling the most precious treasure in the world. Licking his chapped lips, he could feel his canines elongate, full of the venom ready to be injected into the omega’s body.
