Chapter 392: He’s Very Good

Thanks to He Juan’s mysterious words, Mu Yuze kept thinking and guessing who his teacher could be at any waking moment.

Who was it? Did Mu Yuze know them? For starters, the number of people who were close enough with him to be considered an acquaintance could be counted in one hand, and those who were eligible to be his teacher – even less.

Unless...

A certain someone suddenly flashed through his mind and the more Mu Yuze thought about it, the more plausible it was. That’s why, he was not surprised at all when He Juan showed up two days later with another person in tow.

"Ta-da!" He Juan flashed a brilliant smile as he gestured at the woman beside him. "She will be your private teacher from now on. I believe you have known each other so there’s no need for me to do an introduction anymore, right?"

Mu Yuze bowed politely and greeted her, "Teacher Wei."

The woman was none other than her former homeroom teacher who had offered him a lot of help even when he tried to persuade her otherwise. She not only shared food with him, but also covered his school expenses when he was unable to afford them. If not for her, he was certain that he would have ditched school long ago. The notion that it was her who would be his teacher and not other strangers indeed made Mu Yuze feel a lot relieved.

"Student Mu," Wei Xuyi looked genuinely happy to see him again, and a sliver of concern showed in her eyes when she caught the fading bruises on the boy’s face. "I didn’t expect us to cross paths again. Have you been doing well?"

Mu Yuze nodded, "Thank you for worrying about me. But if you’re going to become my teacher, what about the school, Teacher Wei?"

"Ah, it’s all thanks to your uncle here," she chuckled, and Mu Yuze’s gaze snapped toward He Juan in surprise. Uncle? Where did it come from??

He Juan blinked at him rapidly and mouthed silently, ’Let’s talk about this later.’

"Actually, my husband has been relocated to Yuyang, and just as I was considering whether I should resign from school and move together with him, your uncle’s generous offer came at the right time," she elaborated. "Moreover, I got the chance to see you again and I thought ’why not?’. You dropped off the school so suddenly that I couldn’t stop worrying about you, but now I’m glad to see that you’re doing well."

Unable to endure the scathing glare from Mu Yuze any longer, He Juan laughed and chimed in on the conversation, "It’s so reassuring to know that there’s someone who cares about Mu Yuze very much. From now on too, please take care of him, Teacher Wei."

"I will," Wei Xuyi smiled and bowed toward He Juan. "I’d like to thank you again for the opportunity, Mu Yuze’s uncle."

The corner of Mu Yuze’s lips twitched when he heard that, and when Wei Xuyi excused herself to take a phone call, he finally couldn’t help himself anymore. "Uncle?" He asked in sarcasm. "Why haven’t I known that I have an uncle like you until today?"

"Haha," He Juan let out an awkward laugh and switched the topic. "You didn’t look surprised at all when I brought her here, Xiao Ze. And here I was, thinking to give you a nice surprise! Have you guessed it or..." he rubbed his chin in thought. "Are you secretly a mind reader?"

Mu Yuze held back the urge to roll his eyes. Nice try, but he would not let He Juan off the hook this time. "How are you my uncle?" he gritted out the last word in distaste as if it had offended his entire line of ancestors.

He Juan rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, "My bad. It’s the identity I gave when I took over your guardianship back then. I didn’t think too much about it at first, but now... it indeed sounds a little unsuitable, huh?" He laughed and reached out to rub Mu Yuze’s head, only for the boy to swat his hand away like a prickly hedgehog. Helpless, He Juan had no choice but to try to make amends, "It’s already too late to change it, so can you just bear with it this time? Gege promises to make it up to you later, okay?"

Mu Yuze still wanted to sulk, but he couldn’t resist asking, "How are you going to make it up to me?" When you’re clearly so busy that it’s difficult to even catch a glimpse of your face, he grumbled inwardly.

"What do you want, Xiao Ze?" He Juan gazed at him with an indulging smile. "Tell me, and I will see if I can make it happen."

That promise was a little too... dangerous, wasn’t it? Mu Yuze ducked his head to hide his flushed ears and when his peripheral vision caught sight of Wei Xuyi who was finishing her call, he muttered, "I–I will think about it."

"Okay, take your time," He Juan chuckled.

"Sorry to make you wait," she approached them with an apologetic look. "Should we start today’s lesson now?"

Mu Yuze nodded as he led the teacher to the living room where they would conduct the lesson. He glanced back and saw He Juan waving at him. The man pointed at himself, then the door and a wave of disappointment crashed over Mu Yuze’s chest when he realized that He Juan was leaving again. Nonetheless, he showed nothing on his face as he raised his hand and waved back, earning him a bright smile from the man.

Mu Yuze sat himself on the carpeted floor and showed her the books he had been reading all this time. But then, he was caught by surprise when Wei Xuyi commented carefully, "It seems like you and your uncle are close."

Unable to bring himself to meet the teacher’s eyes, Mu Yuze fixed his gaze on the book in front of him and gave a tentative nod, his ears warming up. "We are... quite close."

"Oh, that’s good," Wei Xuyi let out a sigh of relief. "When I saw the bruises on your face, I thought that..."

Ah, that’s right. She had always known the horrible situation in Mu Yuze’s family, so it was no wonder for her to misunderstand. This time, Mu Yuze raised his head and looked her straight in the eye. Fighting off the embarrassment, he stated firmly, "Not him. I–I’ve just gotten into a fight, that’s all. Don’t worry, Teacher Wei. He is very good... he has always been very good to me."

On the other hand, after leaving the house, He Juan drove straight to Xuanlong’s headquarters and made his way to the underground chamber where Chen Youzhi had been waiting for him.

"Has he woken up yet?" he asked.

"Boss," Chen Youzhi dipped his head in greeting. "You’re just in time."

As if cued, a loud commotion broke out from the other side of the door. "W–Where am I? Hey— is there somebody out there?! How dare you kidnap me! Let me go right at this instance... or else I’m going to make you regret it!!"

He Juan let out an amused chuckle and patted Chen Youzhi’s shoulder in passing. He took a pair of silk gloves from his pocket and pulled it on with ease before he opened the door to reveal a bespectacled man in a rumpled suit tied to a large wooden chair. As his eyes were blindfolded, he could only hear the sound of the door opening. His whole body tensed up as he hissed,

"Who the fuck are you?! I’m telling you—"

"How are you going to make me regret, Mr. Dai?" He Juan dragged a chair from the corner of the room, causing a harsh screech to reverberate in the air. He sat himself in front of the man and smiled, "Do tell. I’m very curious about it."
