Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 391: Little Selfish Wish
"What...?" Mu Yuze asked, still in a state of disbelief. "Are you saying that I... I will manifest in the future? But how? I’m already fifteen this year..."
As far as he knew, the period of manifestation lasted during the age of eight to fourteen. On the other hand, Mu Yuze turned fifteen this year and he had calmly accepted the fact that he was a Beta, but now... he was suddenly told that he was going to become either an Alpha or an Omega?!
"I don’t really understand either..." He Juan grimaced, knowing fully well that such shocking news could be hard to digest. "But Doctor Jia said that there are a few cases of late bloomers when manifestation happens to people around the age of fifteen to seventeen, and he guessed you’re one of these people. Coupled with the fact that you have been malnourished for years, it’s very reasonable for your manifestation to arrive later than normal."
"Late bloomers..." Mu Yuze mumbled quietly, his mind still reeling from shock.
"Quite surprising, huh?" He Juan chuckled to disperse the tension in the air and more importantly, the storm brewing in his own chest.
He felt like he had gone back to that year when he was troubled over whether He Xie would manifest into an omega or not. Without anyone to rely on, he told himself that he had to grow strong enough so that He Xie could rely on him if it really happened. He spent each day in constant anxiety and fear – anxious that he would not be able to protect his little brother well, and fear that he would lose his one and only family member if he stayed weak and helpless. For that, he worked extra hard to build his name and reputation, dirty his hands to clean the garbage in the society, just for the sake of creating a better world for He Xie to live in.
Alas, years flew by and He Xie showed no signs of ever manifesting. He was pretty much confirmed to be a Beta now.
To think that he would once again be thrown into a similar vortex of anxiety...
But this time, it was no longer a matter of manifesting or not, but which one would Mu Yuze grow up into – an Alpha or an Omega?
Looking at the boy’s tiny and thin stature, He Juan shelved the concerns to the back of his mind and flashed a reassuring smile, "No worries, Xiao Ze. Gege is telling you just in case, so that you can prepare yourself both mentally and physically." He reached out to pat Mu Yuze’s head gently. "Be it an Alpha or an Omega, both are okay. Though Gege personally hopes that you will become an Alpha..."
’But I want to be an omega,’ Mu Yuze lowered his gaze to hide the emotions within. ’A pretty and confident omega, just like...’
His wishful thinking abruptly halted once he caught sight of his rough and bruised skin, and just like that the reality came crashing down. So what if he became an omega? It was not like he would become a pretty one, enough for He Juan to consider him. He should not be too greedy in this life or else he would end up losing what he already had at the moment.
"En," he nodded and desperately tried to shove down the bitterness to the bottom corner of his heart. He said with a steadiness that surprised even himself, "I will just take things in stride and not worry too much about it."
He could not bring himself to say that he wished to be an Alpha too, even if it was to reassure the other man. He knew very well why He Juan would prefer him to be an Alpha, but... he just couldn’t. It was too difficult and painful.
At least, he was allowed to keep this little selfish wish to himself, right?
It was all worth it the way He Juan’s eyes lit up the next second. "That’s the spirit!" He laughed, relieved that Mu Yuze was taking it better than he did.
It seemed like he did not need to worry too much. He was no longer the same helpless and desperate teenager he was back then. Now, he had power, wealth and reputation. He could protect the people who were important to him.
As they concluded the house tour, they bid each other goodnight and returned to their own rooms, both occupied with their own thoughts.
For the first few days of moving in, He Juan continued to get busy, if not busier to the point where he would sometimes not return for a day or two.
Occasionally, he would come back with a somber aura around him and when he smiled at Mu Yuze, it would be strained around the edges as if he was forcing himself to do so. And every single time, Mu Yuze had to resist the urge to ask because he knew that he would not be of help at all.
The most he could do was to maintain the house to the best of his ability so that He Juan would always return to a clean and comfortable home. He also took pleasure in brewing He Juan coffees in the morning when he was home. For it was the only time when he could see He Juan’s features softening with a gentle smile curving on his lips.
"Your skills are getting better and better, Xiao Ze," he praised wholeheartedly. "Gege almost thinks that this is delicious!"
Mu Yuze scoffed, knowing very well that He Juan was flattering him again. He was the kind of person who would never think that bitter coffee was delicious. Chewing on his bottom lip, Mu Yuze deliberated over his words before he decided to say, "Take care of yourself and don’t work too hard..."
He Juan blinked in surprise, and then he let out a delightful laughter. "What should I do? Now I’m starting to feel bad for making you worry. It’s okay, this period will end soon. Gege is just busy with territory expansion, that’s all."
Territory expansion? Mu Yuze mouthed the foreign words quietly. He wanted to ask further but he had a hunch that He Juan would not divulge anything more to him.
The neighborhood he was living in was too peaceful, almost as if it was sequestered from the rest of the world. And as someone who did not have the habit of watching news channels, he completely missed the series of accidents reported almost every single day such as murders, arson, car collisions and many others. Otherwise he would have noticed that the timeline of those accidents matched with the time when he and He Juan had just moved into this city.
"Ah, that’s right," He Juan suddenly exclaimed, bringing him out of his thoughts. "I’ve found a suitable teacher for you. For junior high, we will go with homeschooling first, okay? After that, if you think that you’re ready, Gege will help you to apply to any school you want."
Mu Yuze nodded. He had no problems with homeschooling. He understood that it was the best method for him right now considering his dyslexic and inability to catch up with normal curriculum, albeit the idea of spending another person aside from He Juan in this house was a little...
"Who is it?" he asked, a little apprehensive and nervous. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Don’t worry," He Juan sent him a wink. "I’m sure you will like them."
