Chapter 176: It’s... You

After more than thirty six hours of staying awake, Jia Molei could finally lay his worry to rest, dump the matter of watching over He Juan to the nurses on shift and Su Xieren, and patted his ass to go home. It was only when he got to the parking lot and did not see his black Jeep anywhere that he recalled how that car of his had turned into scrap.

"...Fuck," he could not help but curse softly under his breath.

Frustrated, he lifted his hand to tussle his hair, yet he ended up tugging on the wounds on his chest, various dark bruises and muscle strains all over his body instead. His entire body abruptly turned rigid, even his breathing stuttered for a split second. Oh God... it was painful. It was so fucking painful that he wanted to roll on the ground and wail out loud!

Alas, as a big ass man, he could only swallow the howl of pain, grit his teeth and silently endure.

Well, it was not his fault that he forgot to take care of his wounds. Due to He Juan’s condition, he could not afford to let himself get distracted. It was not until now – until the chaos had settled and he confirmed that He Juan had passed through the critical phase – that the exhaustion, pain and more pain crashed onto him with the force of a train wreck. He felt like he could instantly knock himself out if he found any horizontal surface, even if it was in the middle of the road.

"Umm..." the little security guard in the parking lot gingerly inched closer when he saw that Jia Molei was rooted in place with a twisted look on his face. He had witnessed it with his own eyes how Jia Molei jumped down from the ambulance with blood and mud sticking all over his body. At first, he had thought that the crimson-haired doctor had fought a bear in the wilderness and it was not until he heard the news from another security guard that he knew that the doctor had just crashed his car. Looking at Jia Molei’s current appearance, he could easily tell that the man must have wanted to go home only to forget that his car had been sent to the repair service.

As such, no matter how apprehensive and timid he was, he could only brace himself and speak to him. "Doctor Jia, are you going back now? Do you need me to call a taxi for you?"

Jia Molei habitually scanned the man with a wary look and after confirming that there was nothing suspicious, he let his guard down and sighed. "Ah, yeah. Can I trouble you to—"

"Huh?" The little security guard was caught off guard when Jia Molei suddenly halted mid-sentence. He raised his head and saw that Jia Molei’s gaze was fixed somewhere behind his back.

Curious, he followed the man’s line of sight and saw a slender figure leaning against an inconspicuous black Buick. The man was wearing all black with a dark blue cap on his head. He was standing where the light could not quite reach, making it difficult to discern his features clearly. However, it was only through such a far distance that the little security guard could perceive how proportional the man’s body was.

Especially those long legs that stretched a mile... he looked down at his own chubby legs and sighed in envy.

Realizing that the two people had noticed his presence, the man lifted the brim of his hat, revealing a fresh and youthful features, and waved at them with a sunny beam on his face.

The little security guard heaved out a sigh of relief. "Doctor Jia, it seems like your friend is–" He turned to face Jia Molei again, and the look on the latter’s face was so terrifying that he staggered backward in reflex. It was not even an exaggeration to say that he was out to murder someone. The little security guard’s eyes flew wide, flustered. "D–Doctor Jia?"

Jia Molei seemed to snap back to his senses from that shaky call. He retracted his murderous intent and rubbed his face roughly, saying to the pale-faced man beside him. "Thank you, there’s no need to call a taxi. I will go back with him."

"O–Oh!" He subconsciously gave way to Jia Molei, and it was not until the man was a few meters away from him did he jolt out of his trance and exclaim loudly, "Have a safe trip, Doctor Jia!"

Jia Molei responded with a faint grunt, his eyes were fixed on the man in front of him. Unfamiliar face, unfamiliar clothing style, yet extremely familiar aura. Even if his brain was fried and his eyes turned cross, he definitely would not mistake who this man was.

One step after another, he walked down the desolate parking lot toward Ku Jin, each step seemed to resonate with his own heavy heartbeat. All the while, Ku Jin kept that bright smile on his face as if he was genuinely a friend who had come to bring Jia Molei home. And when Jia Molei got close, he finally straightened up and opened the door for him, gesturing like a real gentleman, "After you."

Even his voice had been changed beyond recognition, Jia Molei thought in gloom. This fucker, it’s not like Jia Molei did not know his true colors, so what is he still acting for?

But now was not the time to expose his cover. Jia Molei was very aware of his own predicament. Right now, his head felt as if it was repeatedly stabbed with needles, the feeling not dissimilar to how the tattoo gun was imprinting colors to his skin, prickly and uncomfortable. In his current state, there was no way he could win against Ku Jin, nor did he want to cause a fuss and arouse suspicion.

Moreover, the fact that Ku Jin willingly waited for him here meant that he must have something to say. Hence, Jia Molei could only climb into the car with his mind racing in miles.

Ku Jin’s smile deepened, showing faint dimples on the side of his lips. He gently closed the door, rounded the car and slipped into the driver’s seat.

Silence reigned among them until Ku Jin drove out of the hospital’s perimeter.

As always, it was Jia Molei who could not bear the silence. With a hand pressing against his temple, he asked in a weary voice, "Exactly what do you want?"

He could understand it if Ku Jin and Boss Xuan wanted to kill He Juan after everything that guy had done back then, but after the repeated accidents that seemed intent to jolt He Juan’s memory and the appearance of the blue-eyed brat earlier, he was not so certain anymore.

But if they did not want He Juan’s life, then what was their goal?

"Hmm?" The end of Ku Jin’s voice ended in an upward lilt, sounding exceptionally gentle and patient as if he was coaxing the other. However, his words were not anything good. "What do you mean by that? You make me sound like a villain here."

Jia Molei sneered. "Oh it’s good that you’re aware of it."

"How harsh," Ku Jin tutted. A teasing smile curved on the corner of his lips. "Haven’t you always known what I want? Or should I spell it out for you?" An ill premonition arose in Jia Molei’s heart and he instinctively wanted to stop Ku Jin from speaking. However, it was too late by the time he opened his mouth.

"What I want is only one. It’s... you."
